VicariousShaner
Hello everyone, today I would like to talk to you about a very special game called Epic Mafia that can be found here http://www.epicmafia.com/home Epic mafia is a Free, multiplayer, browser based online game which involves A uninformed majority (the Village) and a informed minority (the Mafia) each trying to achieve their separate goals. Every person is assigned a role at the start of the game. You are randomly sided with either the village, the mafia, or a third party. During the night, the mafia secretly meet and discuss to decide who they want to kill, while other power roles decide what to do. During the day, the village players must figure out who is not sided with the village and get rid of them. You will play as either mafia, villager, or a third party! Your goal is to converse with other players and advance towards your own goals. Your skills in persuasion and lying will determine the outcome of the game. There are a few ways to find out who your teammates and enemies are. The first and easiest way is to have a Role (character class) that can investigate someone to determine if they are sided with the village or with the Mafia. Problem is, if you claim (announce that you are) a PR (power role, someone important in the game that needs protecting) the mafia will be over you like turkey on bread. So, for Cop (the main investigative role) and any other PRs with special abilities, be careful about claiming. Also, you or someone else may CC (counter claim) a role that has already been claimed too. One of the CC's is usually mafia, although for some village roles, making yourself a target for the Mafia is important (such as the bomb, who blows up if the mafia comes to visit him.) The games are played in setups, in which the host chooses which roles will be playing in the game. Roles are basically the Epic Mafia equivalent of TF2 classes, each with their own special ability (except for some) and play-style. There are 3 types of games, unranked, ranked, and competitive ranked. The former has no penalty for leaving in the middle of the match, and gains you no points if you win or lose (Points, also be getting to that later.) Also, Unranked seems to be more unbalanced than either of the following. Ranked takes away -50 points and you lose some Karma if you quit in the middle of the match. However, it only awards you half of the possible points for a match if you win. Playing either this or comp ranked will cost you one heart. Comp ranked seems to be filled with the most "hardcore" players, its basically the same as ranked, but gives out full points upon winning the match. There is no penalty for losing, except for a missing heart. Points: The reward you receive in the game. The amount you win each game depends on what role you are playing when you win and whether you won a ranked or comp rank game. When you hit 2000, you can give and take away karma. Karma: How players with 2000 or more points rate other players. Karma has no real effect on the game, other than you need at least 10 to advance to the highest tier available which you should get easily if you dont troll every game. Hearts: You have 10 hearts when you start out, and the maximum you can get is 20. Every day, 10 hearts are added to your account, plus double what you had left yesterday. Tiers: Blegh, Ill let The Wiki explain this one for me. These are relatively new to the game, 2 days old at the time of posting. Tiered lobbies are a new feature, introduced in Epic Mafia 3.0. There are four lobbies in total: Training Lobby: The training lobby has no admittance requirements. It is aimed at new players and contains ten roles Bronze Tier: Players must have at least 1000 points and -10 karma to participate in Bronze Tier games. Bronze Tier has about 5 more roles than Training tier? Silver Tier: Players must have at least 4000 points and 0 karma to participate in Tier 2 games. Silver Tier contains all roles that were in EM2. Gold Tier: Players must have at least 10,000 points and 10 karma to participate in Gold Tier games. Gold Tier will contain all roles from EpicMafia 2.0, as well as the new roles released to coincide with EpicMafia 3.0, which are Informant, Lookout, Bandit, Tailor, Blacksmith and Reporter. Currently, Thief and Blacksmith are operational [citation needed]. The Wiki is here http://wiki.epicmafia.com/index.php?title=Main_Page and can help you with most everything you are confused about. Me and Alienslayer 50 have been playing for quite a while, I would like to see if anyone else here would be interested in signing up. If you have any questions, either consult me or the Wiki. Faiblesse Des Sens
I've played this in real life. It's great, especially when everyone gets drunk. I can't imagine it being very fun online unless you get way into it (and personally that's not what I want to spend my time with!)
