I've noticed that a lot of the gamers I know in real life are also cigarette smokers. Hell, I was a smoker until three years ago. This is a place to discuss smoking and smoking cessation. Please share the tips, trips and hacks that help you quit, or at least help you cut down.

At its height, my habit was just over a pack a day. I tried to quit cold turkey twice but failed. I managed to finally stop by cutting down slowly over a month. Now I don't even get cravings any more.

Full disclosure: I do have the very occasional cigar or cigarillo maybe three or four times a year for celebrations with colleagues. The last one I had was in October.

I dont smoke, and never have (have breathed in literal tonnes of smoke my Dad's put out over the years when I was at home though), but hey, cigar's don't count yo! Enjoy a good cuban!

i used to smoke. i quit about 4 or 5 years ago, but i still totes get cravings all the time. i quit by cutting down and then only smoking when i drank which resulted in brutal hangovers and my eventually just quitting altogether. i would totes still do it if it didn't make me feel so crappy. it really was a satisfying habit.

I smoke about a pack every 2 days. Im not quitting any time soon and i really dont care to. I enjoy the habit.

Only thing that sucks is the ban of smoking indoors at bars and restaurants. People are such pussies. Not being able to smoke in a bar is the gayest shit ever. America is so fucking faggy for being cool with having that little piece of freedom taken away.

Man, that was a lot of homophobic slurs...even for me. But i hope it gets the message across. Or edit it if it bothers anyone. I dont care.

Nope. Had a drag on one of my gran's cigarettes when I was little. Under my mums encouragement. She obviously got what she wanted. :P

All the smokers in my family have now quit, either from having kids or heart attack etc. Apart from my aunt who still has one every now n then.

Personally I'm quite fond of the smoking ban, if someone else wants to kill themselves, fine by be, but I'd quite like them to not involve me in that.

This weekend had to explain what a pipe was to my little sister and how it works. I think she got the concept (My gran has a russian ornamental one on her shelf, sister was curious)

Stick smoking customers in these and you have a deal:

Fact of the matter is non-smokers have no choice if they want to smoke or not if a smoker is in the vicinity.

Smokers are free to poison themselves, but they have no right to do the same to other customers or workers.

Business however do have a responsibly to provide a safe and healthy working environment for employees and customers.

So no-smoking > smoking in a legal sense, and tbh it's pretty amazing it's taken so long for bans to start cropping up since we've known about the toxicity of smoking for nearly 50 years now. (though maybe it's only recent the potency of second hand smoke has also been realized)

You're still free to smoke at home or out in the open. Glass half-full.

I may have tried smoking in my life, but considering my grandmother died of lung cancer on New Year's Eve of '96, both devastating my mother and experiencing death for the first time as an 8-year-old told me, "No, and never will I!"

Of course, I would receive secondhand smoke from my aunt and uncle when visiting my favorite cousin. Double-edge sword if you will, but they've practically quit by now.

I started near the end of high school because my musician buddy had been trying to get me to for ages and I was like, "RAWR, breakup, almost to college, time to get HIP."

I finally completely kicked it a month or so ago. I still liked cigarettes when I was drunk for quite a while, but even that now I don't really desire.

I never got too into it though. Maybe like five a day max on average at my worst.

I just visited my musician buddy up in WA last week and he's still pretty bad. Like 12 cigarettes a day on average bad.

He was up to like two packs a day for a while.

Shit's crazy.

Lets see... grandma, a non-smoker, dying from lung cancer, exact cause unknown since she did have two battle with breast cancer and she did frequently fixed up the driveway with cement. My dad quit anyways. This was back in 1997 or so.

Then a year or two ago, my mom quit when it was time for her to get life insurance.

Now its only my stepdad and uncles that smoke.

Myself, I never smoked and never had the urge to. Besides, I think I'm beginning to feel all the years of secondhand smoke getting to me. I can only stand secondhand smoke for a bit now before coughing a bit. If I start smoking, it will make my lungs worst and I don't have the money to support such a habit. Add in the fact that my parents will kill me.

As for the bans... huzzah. Seriously, segregating the smokers from the non-smokers don't do shit.

I've been smoking for about 10 years. I'm probably around a pack or a half-pack a day these days. I still loves it.

As for the bans, I think on principal it was a terrible thing to do. People can choose where to work and where to drink.

Practically, though, I love it. As much as I loved being able to smoke at bars, I hated coming home and needing to wash my clothes immediately.

As long as the outdoor seating smoking option doesn't go away, I'm cool. Although it's fucking cold right now. I'm going to go hide on my porch.

I've never smoked tobacco... or marijuana for that matter. The thought of it makes me nauseous. :s

I find this to be an attractive trait in women, even if it's absolutely hypocritical on my part.

It's bizarre and as my friends have pointed out absolutely illogical, but still.
