Started smoking during my last high school year but quit like 3 or 4 years ago.

I quit both weed and cigarettes at the same time.

Weed, I had been cutting back a lot for some time in hopes of eventually stopping, but I quit cigarettes cold turkey.

Considering the amount of people around me who keep trying to quit with various kinds of pills, patches, etc.. and still fail, I'm not sure what should amaze me most: how easy it was for me, or how hard it seems to be for them. Maybe I just have strong willpower. B)

Nowadays the mere smell of cigarettes digusts me, so I don't really see myself relapsing.

Oh, and even when I was a smoker, I supported the ban.

Smoking is a personal choice, not something people should have to endure because of others.

Up until like 2 weeks ago I was smoking 20-30 a day. I've cut that down to a morning smoke with my cup of tea. I was off them completely for a few days until one night of drinking. I started back when I was around 12 or 13 just out of curiosity rather than any attempt to be cool but that soon changed to trying to be cool and I started smoking heavily. I think I need to give up multiplayer gaming for a while if I'm serious about quitting, nothing drives the stress level up by playing with incompetant teammates, lol.

Believe it or not, out of all the times I've tried quitting and all the different methods I've tried, I found weed has done the best job of making me cut down and quit. It was weed that made me go from 20-30 a day to 5 a day within a week.

One of my friends took a pack of cigarettes that belonged to their mom and we went over to the elementary school at night to smoke them. We were around 10 or so and I remember feeling very light-headed and nauseous after. I never smoked again, but my friends continue to smoke to this day.

I am incredibly irritated by people who smoke in public as they are imposing their bad decision on everyone else. It was especially bad at the bus stop I waited at to head home after attending community college in a neighboring city. I swear nearly everyone who rode the bus smoked. There were two heated seating areas, one for smokers and another for non-smokers. The smoking section was always completely full while the non-smoking section would be empty for the most part. This was noticed by some of the smokers who decided to migrate to the non-smoking area. Assholes.

It amazes me that tobacco is somehow legal and marijuana is not. Nicotine is a potent alkaloid produced by the tobacco plant to prevent herbivory and is incredibly toxic. It is meant to kill anything that eats the plant. In contrast, marijuana produces THC and CBD which are meant to confuse and deter herbivores. They are also less toxic by several orders of magnitude.

Rant complete.

I'm far more concerned about the effects of automobile exhaust than secondhand smoke in public. Like, waaaaaay far more concerned.

I just find it absurd how we have laws banning the possession of certain organisms, or their metabolites. If it was a public health concern why isn't the propagation and possession of all lethally toxic organisms outlawed?

Automobile exhaust is clearly a more real threat than secondhand smoke, but people are addicted to driving in a way that cigarettes could only dream of. You can hardly blame people for that. The only way to overcome this will be with new energy technologies that can compete with fossil fuels.

The ban on pot is more of a relic than anything else. Besides, with pot, you can see the effects it has on people very clearly. Tobacco... just smells and kills you from within. Nothing that really glares out at you.

Also, this is just in... everything causes cancer.
