MetalCaveman
The dragon killed itself when I was farming him for the 300 souls at a time. By pure luck I was already at 10,000 souls so when he died all I had to do was go buy the orb. MetalCaveman, you might be good enough to beat this game without soul farming, but seeing how EVERYBODY else and their mums are doing what I'm doing it makes it where it's the norm. Admittedly the Capra demon, and the gargoyle fight were WAY too easy when I'm a level 50 something but I gotta say it's worth it just to not die every 5 seconds. Right now I'm farming souls to increase the overall damage of my fireball, then I'm gonna buy another fireball spell so I can have 16 throws per campfire. I've also killed the golden knight that is trapped in the jail cell and the mini-boss [Hovel is his name I think] so I can have their max, equipment increase rings and now I can wear the elite knight armor AND roll around. Somebody has told me that the golden knight is part of the story later on, but I didn't care. That ring of his is too good. I'm gonna fully upgrade my armor and upgrade as much as I can the fireball spell then continue on past the depths. I'm already saving souls so I can buy a crapload of curse cures. I'm not "good enough" far from it actually, also, I don't know where you've seen that, every forum and video I watch/read about the game does mention the dragon farming spot, but not that it's necessary in any way shape or form, however, I do agree that it makes thing easier, after all, I do remember doing multiple runs of 4-1 in Demon's Souls in order to increase the power of my character's spells. Also, that dude with the golden armor: You kill him later on in the game anyway, the only difference is that you get his full set of armor and a special catalyst that one of his allies drops when you kill him. Waldorf and Statler
Yeah I heard that. Fully upgraded Elite Knight Armor should be decent enough though
toxicitizen
Fuck yeah! My copy of the game finally arrived! LET THE PUNISHMENT BEGIN! Edited October 11, 2011 by FLD
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Have fun! I'm still discovering new things about the game every time I boot it up. For example, I finally found where you have to go in order to get the soapstone that lets you leave messages behind.
Waldorf and Statler
I accidentally killed the merchant at the top of the undead church. It's his fucking fault for only appearing AFTER I climbed down from the bell tower and just standing there looking all evil and suspicious. I freaked out and attacked it. It looked evil. toxicitizen
So everything was going relatively fine, I even managed to kill an overpowered enemy by climbing on a roof and throwing all my firebombs at him and then electrifying my axe and jumping down at him to deliver the final blow. Then I got killed by an even stronger fucker wielding what looked like a giant horn, and I died by falling off a cliff before I could regain my lost souls. At that point I burst out laughing and turned off the game.
deanb
So how does it look in comparison? (Demon's Souls isn't exactly the prettiest of games)
toxicitizen
Honestly, so far I feel like it's as ugly as Demon's Souls. Maybe slightly better, and it's definitely more colorful. But the first time you can look into the distance at some faraway mountain or whatever, it looks blurry as hell.
toxicitizen
So, I killed the Taurus Demon yesterday after some grinding in the Undead Burg. Today I grinded a bit more to raise my endurance and then my dex to equip a box and get the Drake Sword. I was actually surprised to be able to equip it right away, so now I feel like a complete badass with my Drake Sword and full set of chain mail. I head on proudly to the Undead Parish and... proceed to get raped by the knight at the top of the tower at the entrance ... I love this game
Waldorf and Statler
I'm a pyromancer. As long as Black Knights don't get to hurt me, I can utterly sexually abuse them with my fire spells. And you know I was gonna get the Drake Sword, but when the dragon killed itself before I could get it I went with the claymore and upgraded it as much as I could. It scales with strength as well, so right now my claymore is doing as much as the Drake Sword. Plus I'm gonna be getting the lightning spear not too far from now, so once I get that I'll upgrade my Claymore to a raw or fire weapon. toxicitizen
Yeah I'm a pyromancer too, but for some reason my fireball doesn't do THAT much damage so him. The fucker always manages to hit me once, and then hit me again before I can get back up! Aw shit, just talking about it makes me wanna go back and try again
MetalCaveman
So... Anyone here picked any class other than Pyromancer? Also: Apparently, you should put at least a couple of points into the Faith stat, since it seems you'll need it for some weapons later on when there are enemies that can only be killed by "Divine" weapons. Not sure if there are other ways to kill those dudes though.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I've been playing as a knight, because I wanted good defense, and my female knight looks badass. Edited October 12, 2011 by DukeOfPwn

Mercurial
@metal You're talking about skeletons you just have to kill the mages that keep reviving them.
toxicitizen
So, I was starting to think that maybe I had overleveled in the Undead Burg (was about soul level 15 when I beat Taurus Demon) because I sort of breezed through Undead Parish and Darkroot Garden and while every boss so far has killed me at least once or twice, none of them were much of a challenge once I started figuring them out. I'm now level 25 and after clearing Darkroot Garden I decide to head down to Darkroot Basin, which presented two paths. First I went down, beat the knight relatively easy, then headed in the cave and lit the bonfire. In the back was an elevator that looked just like the one in the Firelink Shrine, so I figured I could make my way back there from here. I hop on and it takes me down to a new area, where I am greeted by the area name VALLEY OF THE DRAKES and a huge motherfucking dragon that immediately starts stomping towards me, looking way too fucking eager to gnaw on my carcass Needless to say, I got the fuck outta there. So I head the other way, which brings me to a clearing with a bunch of frost elementals, I guess? Which seemed intimidating at first but turned out to be easy to dispatch. Then there's some kind of hydra in the back? Firing huge balls of water, I guess? And I've no idea how the fuck I'm supposed to kill it, let alone get close to it. So now I'm at a loss as to where I should go. Somehow, I feel like this is the game's way of telling me "Don't get cocky, asshole! You're still my bitch!" excel_excel
YES YES YES, I FINALLY BEAT THE TAUROS BOSS, FUCK YEEEEES. FIGHT DOWN BELOW. I GOT THE BITCH! Combination of staying on the bridge, always having space between us, running in and slashing him after big attacks from him, then rolling past him on the bridge. OH and firebombs too. They are a bit slow and inaccurate though but the damage they do to him is worth it. No item appeared after I killed him though, is that normal? ahh so SATISFYING. Only noticed my like 4th time going to fight him, the ladder to your right after the fog entrance. Those skeletons can be a right bitch with the arrows. Actually yeah I noticed that not every boss drops a "boss soul". Also, so far all the bosses I've defeated gave very little in the way of souls. When Taurus Demon gave me only like 1000, I was pretty shocked. I remember Phalanx giving at least 10,000 in Demon's Souls. And yeah the fight against Taurus is MUCH easier if you climb up the ladder to dispatch the archers. He'll soon jump up to join you and you have way more room to roll around and dodge on the tower. Also, he takes a few seconds to jump up, so you actually have time to jump down and do a dropping attack on him. The first drop I did took like a third of his health Oh and, quick question to those who've been playing since last week. Does the game get harder? I mean, I'm not complaining here, but the game is supposed to be harder than Demon's Soul but so far I find it's actually easier. So far the areas seem much smaller and the bosses seem kind of easier to dispatch. Edited October 14, 2011 by FLD
Waldorf and Statler
@FLD I can tell you the easiest way to kill the Hydra. It's a joke. Like how sad it is. Run towards him, dodging his water balls. Once you're inside the water and close enough to him, he'll stop attacking you with ranged attacks and attack you with his heads. All you need is a 100% block shield, block when he attacks, then attack his heads. You'll him in no time On the Valley of the Drakes and getting a weapon that lets you kill those reviving skeletons. Aka not having to make a divine weapon. You need to be able to kill at least two of those drakes. The one that's right at the exit of the elevator and another that's on the small mountain side path to the left before you get on the bridge with all the other drakes. Kill those two, keep going up and you'll reach some dragon bones. The dragon bones are next to a shield with 100% defense, and a sword with magic damage that can kill those skeletons in the catacombs for good. Also, the skeleton dragon appears to be dead but he wakes up so be on your guard And the game only got hard for me when I fought the giant wolf with a sword. That asshole takes WAY too much health and requires WAY too many hits to kill. But if you kill it it's 30,000 souls I believe. Plus the ring that will let you eventually join the Darkwraith covenant. I haven't played much since I beat the catacombs' boss [easiest boss ever], but the game is supposed to get really hard during blight town so I'm preparing. Once I'm done with Blighttown I'm gonna join the Darkwraith covenant.
toxicitizen
Yeah I figured there had to be a way to fight the Hydra up close, so I tried earlier and realized exactly what you mentioned. Haven't beaten it yet though. As for the drakes, I managed to kill one but it was too much troubles for me to start exploring the area yet. I really need to replace the damn Drake Sword, though :/ It's a nice boost in the early game, but right now it's catching up to me. I need something that deals more damage and because the Drake Sword doesn't get a bonus from strength, I slightly neglected that stat, so now I have to grind... MasterDex
So I have the game now and I seem to be enjoying it more than Demons' Souls. I picked the Wanderer class, the scimitar is nice and fast. I also spent 4000 souls on the heavy soul arrows and I found they worked great against the Black Knight and the giant skeletons in the graveyard. Question: What benefit does reviving to human have? The game does a better job of explaining stuff than Demons' Souls but I still find myself scratching my head at times.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
When you're human, you get better loot drops. Also, you can kindle fires, giving you 10 Estus flasks at that bonfire instead of 5. And you can summon others to your world to help fight off big, difficult bosses.

excel_excel
Damn, I should stop trying to kill Black Knights....the first one drove me mad, but I FINALLY GOT HIM (spurred on by someone else getting him....he told me 'I got him!' and I was like 'oh yeah phh yeah I got him already' but I hadn't. SO I LOST MY MIND AND KICKED HIS ASS!) Now, the 2nd in the Undead Parish is a nightmare....I had him down to a 1/4 health and what happened?.....THE FUCKING GAME FROZE. This has happened 3 times now. Apparently there are quite an amount of people having problems with it on PS3 and 360, I think it only occurs when logged in online.
toxicitizen
Yeah, the game hasn't frozen on me yet but the framerate occasionally slows down to a crawl. Also, I already feel like the game suffers from having dedicated servers. Sometimes I log on and there are barely any messages on the ground and I encounter almost no other players. When I finally played Demon's Souls seriously (last summer, so close to two years after its release) there were still messages everywhere and I constantly ran into other players' ghosts. I mean, it wasn't as insane as the first few weeks when the game had just come out, but it was significantly more than what I sometimes see in Dark Souls.
