Mercurial
You mean from not having dedicated servers.
deanb
Actually it'll have dedicated servers(can't store messages p2p) . What it suffers from is having multiple shards. Demon's Souls had 3. One for Japan ran by Sony, one for US ran by Atlus and one for Europe ran by Namcom Bandai. (for the versions that is, you can use a US version in europe and be on the US server). But it sounds like Dark Souls has much more than that. You'll probably find, as with all MMO like games, the servers will be consolidated as the game ages and loses players. They probably expected much more people to get Dark Souls than Demons Souls. toxicitizen
It's possible I got it backwards, but what I'd heard is that Dark Souls runs on dedicated servers and Demon's Souls worked differently. Ah okay, just looked it up a bit and the difference is like Dean said, Demon's Souls had a single dedicated server for each region whereas Dark Souls is more P2P-based. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Never had the game crash on me before, but I did have several frame rate issues in certain places, like when the dragon breathes its fire all over my body and I'm like "YAAAGH THIS FIRE IS SO HOOOOOOT" and I drop to the floor panting from all the heat and run into the hole before he heats me up to death. MasterDex
Damn, I should stop trying to kill Black Knights....the first one drove me mad, but I FINALLY GOT HIM (spurred on by someone else getting him....he told me 'I got him!' and I was like 'oh yeah phh yeah I got him already' but I hadn't. SO I LOST MY MIND AND KICKED HIS ASS!) Now, the 2nd in the Undead Parish is a nightmare....I had him down to a 1/4 health and what happened?.....THE FUCKING GAME FROZE. This has happened 3 times now. Apparently there are quite an amount of people having problems with it on PS3 and 360, I think it only occurs when logged in online. Ha! I knew you were lying. Grab 4500 souls, head back to the New Londo merchant and grab the Catalyst and the Heavy Soul Arrows - They take the Black Knights down in no time. I'm around the Undead Parish myself now. Want to make it to the Blacksmith. I really shouldn't have killed the Undead Merchant in the Burg. I got a nice sword but I never use it and that fucker sold arrows and bolts. Oh and this game needs to allow players to sell their items earlier. Why the fuck do I have to carry all this shit I'll never use around until well into the game before I can get rid of them for a profit?! It's still not P2P but rather it has multiple dedicated servers in the same region rather than one. It seems to assign you to a different server every session. What they're really missing is a way to transfer to different servers that still have room so friends have a better chance of being able to play together. Waldorf and Statler
Sadly enough, I might not have enough time to fully enjoy this game. College work has killed my energy to deal with it, and whenever I have free time I tend to watch How I Met Your Mother. Not to mention Batman comes out soon and I know for a fact that will be taking my gaming time. Shame truly, as I wanted to finish this game. But then we get hit by the Skyrim, Assassins Creed and Skyward Sword triple whammie so I need to finish Batman before the 17th of November at the latest. MasterDex
Yeah, I'm not sure I'll get through the game this year myself. Today the game froze a few times and apparently it's a known issue so it might be better to leave it on the shelf for a while. I've enjoyed what I played of it so far though. We'll see how much BF3 catches my interest...

Haha, no I beat the first guy through sheer will power and the second one through sheer will power and the Drake Sword! Why'd ya kill the merchant? I know he's a sneaky sounding fella but he's never done me wrong. Cept that time he called me a cheap bastard and told me to fall of a cliff........but in fairness I am a cheap bastard. You can sell shit eventually I think, after you ring both bells. I guess the reason it doesn't let people sell stuff earlier, is that its fairly easy to get a lot of some shit doing the first level run up to the bridge. MasterDex
The sun knight didn't appear to help you fight the Belfry Gargoyle? The guy you free? I didn't notice him. Does he only help the one time? I fell off the roof the first time I challenged the gargoyle. Maybe I missed the opportunity. I started again today, this time as a Knight. I've got to the bonfire in the Burg and kept the Merchant alive this time. I'll see how I get on with this character.

Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Hmm, that's odd. Also, does anyone know what the messages saying "Praise the sun!" mean? Am I supposed to perform an action there? Tried the "pray" taunt but that didn't do anything.

Am I supposed to perform an action there? Tried the "pray" taunt but that didn't do anything. As far as I'm aware people just leave them mainly in places where the sun is visible and is shining bright, like the Dragon bridge. After all anybody can leave those messages
Waldorf and Statler
Praise the Sun is the equivalent to "thank god!" The golden knight that can help you... the earliest I saw him helping me was in the gaping dragon fight [in the depths]. his summon sign is before you go downstairs to enter the mist and fight the dragon. I've been lied to by the internet I've been so excited to get to Anor Londo and join the blade of darkmoon since I heard they gave you black knight armor. They don't. I raged. That was my goal to continue the game up until this point. The only time you even get something similar is the regular sliver knight armor, and it's not as strong on anything as my stone armor. I am disappoint. The Black Knight is near the end boss. I don't have the time. Shame, would've liked to finish the game but this is where I stop. Masonvrocks
K so...considering getting Dark Souls, figured this'd be the place to ask questions. Just how hard is it? Harder/More Frustrating than Super Meat Boy? What's the best class for a completely new player and what should be the first thing I do when I get the game? I hear it's pretty directionless which is kinda what I'm looking for.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Super Meat Boy and Dark Souls are completely different types of challenges. While dying in Super Meat Boy really doesn't penalize you, dying in Dark Souls can throw you back for quite a while. It is extremely frustrating, but it also feels fair, except for some of the traps. Pyromancer is the "easy" class because it gives you a fireball spell early on. The game will briefly guide you through a tutorial dungeon at the beginning, but other than that, it's very directionless.
Waldorf and Statler
Pyromancer is by far the best class.
MasterDex
It's not as frustrating to play as Demon's Souls was and it forces direction on you by placing difficult enemies into areas you shouldn't go just yet. I found the Knight to be a good class to begin with if you want to rely on swords. Thankfully, the starting class is just that and once you start levelling your stats, you can mould your character how you want. Tips: Take twin humanities as your gift at the start and get used to parrying as soon as you can. Always keep an eye on your stamina, make sure to keep enough to roll away from trouble. For direction, I'd suggest Firelink Shrine>Undead Burg>Undead Parish>Lower Undead Burg....and that's as far as I've gone so far. I actually started exploring Darkroot Garden and Darkroot Basin before I realized there was a Lower Undead Burg, so that's probably not a bad place for starters either. By the time I found him, Capra Demon was a fucking joke lol Edited October 19, 2011 by FLD
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Is Capra Demon that thing that attacks you as soon as you enter and has two wolves that are also circling you? That thing is so frustrating. Still, it might be easier than fighting these golems and that stupid hydra/moonlight butterfly. I somehow missed that area completely at first and was something like level 50 when I stumbled upon it, so it was a pretty damn easy fight for me. And I don't know what level you are, but the butterfly killed me the first time only because I had no idea what I was doing (and had no ranged weapon, so I figured I was screwed anyway). But it's actually pretty easy to beat. Just dodge everything for a while and after a bit it's going to come down and rest on the side of the bridge you're on. That's your cue to slash at it like a mad man and you should take at least of third of his health. Repeat as needed. Mal
What you guys think if From Software port Dark Souls to PC or at the very least make their next title a PC title as well?
deanb
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/01/06/the-quest-for-dark-souls-on-pc/ Here's a link with a tad more info and a petition link. Apparently it's doing rather well, though I feel it'll most likely be ignored unless it gets like 1million or something crazy. You know how publishers are with these imaginary sales figures.
