TheForgetfulBrain
Hmm... Kotaku has ads for one of the Alienware MX laptops and shows Fable III where the screen is... does that mean we're going to finally get Fable III on the PC? I... want! ... But not for full price. TheMightyEthan
I liked the ideas behind a lot of the stuff they did in Fable III, but the presentation is so simplistic/shallow that it just isn't compelling to me. Fable II is far and away my favorite Fable game, Fable III is my least favorite.
TheForgetfulBrain
What I really want is Fable II on the PC. I don't know if it's my Xbox or disc, but that game runs like balls. Atrocious framerate when I play. Also, I just never got over the game killing bugs I ran into. I want to finish it up someday, but I haven't attempted to do so for a while. I loved the first Fable the most, I think. The combat and controls were just so tight and satisfying. I hated how 'floaty' the controls felt in Fable II, as well as the swordplay. Edited February 11, 2011 by TheForgetfulBrain
McBeeferton
I really don't understand how you have Fable 1, skip Fable 2, and then confirm making Fable 3. DOES NOT COMPUTE.

TheFlyingGerbil
I prefer the original Fable. For it's time it was pretty good. Fable II was pretty, but it lacked a certain charm the original had. It had it's moments. But the worst part is that damn dog. Shut up, you. Fable III I am curious about, but I won't pick it up for a good while. I think it's the charm I missed from Fable II. I felt it was going to have a British-game charm a la Simon the Sorcerer. I couldn't put my finger on what I didn't like about it before but you articulated it for me. Thanks! I have the Lost Chapters version of the first Fable and I usually don't like playing a series backwards as you tend to notice all the things that were improved for the sequel that you mightn't have noticed if you played them in order. Sounds like it may be worth giving Fable: TLC a go though. If you want a Zelda fix, try Darksiders. I liked the Zelda-esque gameplay of Darksiders, but the tone was way off for me. One of the things I like most about Zelda is its 'safe world charm' even when Link is in mortal danger, it is sort of Disneyfied danger like the baddies don't really want to hurt you. I think I just like my gaming PG-friendly! I'm hoping Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom will be good for me (though I'm assuming it lacks the Nintendo humour). floppymcwiggle
Fable 3 doesn't do that this time around. Your weapon changes instead of you. Which I think is nice cos tbh it was pretty horrible if you were a Strength user. I'm in Aurora, just met the crawler/darkness stuff which was very awesome. I'm purposefully taking my time so I can increase my wealth from rent n such. Don't want to mess up the end. I dislike the limit to the magic. I liked mixing things up on the fly in 2. Though I guess I am liking the devastating AoE power of Flame+Ice gloves. More thoughts as I get to the end. Just buy up every store you can. I was gettig like 90k every 5 minutes. I wont spoil anyhing for you though. I do think that you may be missing out on some major moral dilemas going into the end as a rich bastard. Its tougher to make decisions if you dont have a ton of money. Props to Lionhead for making me actually cringe a little while making some of the choices. I never thought a game wuld challenge my integety that way.

McBeeferton
Oh, dear. Fable crushes expectations, but they're still enjoyable games.

TheForgetfulBrain
I mean, I loved things about Fable II but I never finished it due to bugs. Fable I was a wonderful, solid game that didn't live up to the ridiculous hype. Fable III, I'm disappointed they remove experience points/leveling up, but I'm looking forward to playing a Fable game at 60fps and am sure I'll enjoy it plenty - I'm not expecting the world from it. Chewblaha
"Disappointing." If you pick up the game not knowing anything about it you'll be thoroughly entertained and happy. If you pick up the game believing shit that you could do anything you wanted, then of course you're going to be disappointed...in your extreme gullibility. Holy shit that's a word? deanb
Err no. I'm sure they took gullible out the dictionary years ago.
Chewblaha
Point is if you actually believed in a real, dynamic, world changing, sandbox game that tracked the life growth of trees and grass over time on an last-gen console; that's incredibly embarrassing. Pretty sure a semicolon goes there. Edited February 26, 2011 by Chewblaha
Hot Heart
I'm not going to go into the whole dynamic sandbox stuff; because that's not what interests me. They are thoroughly entertaining games but they are also incredibly clumsy with a lot of things. The moral choice stuff is bollocks and the 'thing' with Fable III that so intrigued me was quite flawed; while a lot of the mechanics are lagging far behind other games/developers, not even in complexity but basic stuff like usability. They are a nice change of pace from other games though. I think there is some good writing in there when it's not the main story stuff. arbitarty
Love Fable, I remember playing the original on the PC over and over again. Never finished Fable II due to bugs, I'm stuck in that tower dream with chesty (I've been stuck there a while, Bought the game on its release day). Really frustrating because I took so much time, racked up way more hours than needed, maxed out those sometimes hard to max out stats, and then I get stuck? I was originally refusing to play it until the bug was fixed, but in waiting for so long I've lost interest in starting again. Still looking forward to grabbing Fable III when I get some time to commit. Really need to catch up on that one.
TheFlyingGerbil
OOh, my Gold is about to expire and their offer at the moment to entice me is if I renew they will give me a proper disc version of Fable III. Pretty cool! I was going to wait for the GOTY edition to come out but I may get this and play through it as evil then trade it in for the GOTY version and play it as a good guy. Joe Oh, and arbitarty, that chesty thing was one of my least favourite things in that game. It wasn't buggy for me though at least. How are you stuck and has it been a problem for other people? I think I'm quite lucky as I didn't really notice any bugs when I was playing.

You go into the dream land with chesty, and then apparently there are bad guys stuck in walls that you can't kill - thats the theory anyway, because the mission doesnt proceed until you kill them all. Yes I've tried blasting magic everywhere, on every square inch of wall, nothing. Essentially stuck in there with nothing to do, no one to talk to, no way out. Incredibly frustrating.
