RockyRan
Well, how about this to increase your faith in humanity today? http://www.capcom-un...ut_Ace_Attorney Some super-fan super-douche got to a Capcom higher up to badger him about Ace Attorney Investigations 2... by claiming to be from the Make a Wish Foundation. Truly, is nothing sacred to these people? I kinda hope this Capcom guy votes against localizing AAI 2 whenever it comes up from now on just out of spite. I sure would. God, being a marketing director for a company like Capcom and having to interact with video game fans from the internet would be the worst. I like how he casually mentions the Make a Wish Foundation lie, then pretends to be appalled when Sven is "rude" to him. Like he couldn't put two and two together during the phone conversation. Or when he typed up the synopsis on the forum.
FMW
All right! News! Ace Attorney news! Ace Attorney vs. Professor Layton is still happening, and looks like it might release this year in Japan. After going dark for so long, I was kinda worried about the project. Also announced, Ace Attorney 5 is gonna be on the 3DS! Phoenix Wright is the main character again and it takes place 1 year after Apollo Justice. So to update my earlier post... "Ace Attorney 5 is a real thing that's happening. Hooray! What platform(s) is it for? Dunno! Will it be localized outside Japan? Dunno! BUT: This is a good first step." has now become "Ace Attorney 5 is a real thing that's happening. Hooray! It's for 3DS, but we don't know about localization outside of Japan. BUT: so far, so good. excel_excel
YES!!!! OH GOD THANK YOU. Finally. I can NOT WAIT. I need this now. Please say they are bringing a translated AA2 with it as well. That would be an excellent bonus feature! So happy they are doing a Phoenix gets his Attorney's badge back storyline. This is what I've been waiting for since Apollo Justice, an older Phoenix taking the reigns! And Maya better be back! UnstableArk
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/05/ace-attorney-5-coming-to-nintendo-3ds Localization confirmed.
FMW
It's interesting to me that Ace Attorney 5 is announced for release outside Japan while Ace Attorney vs. Layton still has not. The versus project has been in development for longer, is closer to release, and is for the same platform as AA 5. But no word on localization? It's a bad sign. Not a definite sign of doom, but not good. Not good at all.
Thursday Next
I do rather wish that these would come to other platforms. Now that it's on iOS it sets a precedent and I'd love to see these games on Vita. I'll happily rebuy every single one of them.
excel_excel
TGS trailer. Shows off the 3D visuals, I feel they've done a good job capturing the charm of the 2D sprites although Phoenix looks different because he's older and more relaxed they've said, as noted by his open shirt this time round. New partner! Wonder if we'll see Maya....or Pearl. WHO CARES ABOUT TRUCY!....darling.
TheFlyingGerbil
I guess this is the best place for this trailer too - though I'm even more confused than ever about Layton vs Phoenix. It looks SO weird.
excel_excel
A lot of that stuff, gameplay wise, is similar stuff from the Layton series. Still no word on a Western release for Layton VS Wright, which is silly. Ace Attorney does well, and Layton does realllly well. DAMN IT. The guy who played Phoenix in the Ace Attorney movie (which I have to find!) is voicing him in Layton VS Wright. Code_Yuki
From what I've seen, I don't like the change from 2D to 3D. It slightly looks a little off. It's either the colour, shading or modeling that's bugging me.Surprised they didn't stick with 2D since there really wasn't anything wrong with it and the style of game kind of fits 2D. Animations look great though. Still looking forward to it because It's Phoenix as the main character again and also looking forward to the new mechanics. Mister Jack
The Phoenix trilogy is now out on iOS in HD. The first two cases are free. The rest seem to be bought on an a la carte system as far as I can tell, with the complete total for all 3 games being 16.99.

TheFlyingGerbil
has the android version died the death?
Mister Jack
Did they ever announce an android one?
TheFlyingGerbil
apparently it's on the Japanese Play store, and it was initially announced as coming to both platforms in the West.
Chronixal
I'm going to be all over AA5: Dual Destinies when it makes it's overseas release and I can't say I'm all that bothered about a lack of physical release either. I'm aware of the complaints and issues concerning all data being tied to a 3DS system and not account but I'd rather a purely digital release than none at all. Oddly, I've been playing AA4 again recently and it's raised in my estimations. And whisper it with me but Trucy is a more enjoyable assistant than Maya. FMW
IT IS ACE ATTORNEY DAY. REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL. IT IS ACE ATTORNEY DAY IN NORTH AMERICA. Go buy AA 5 from the 3DS eShop. Do it. Do it right now. This franchise is on the very brink. Once we received every installment promptly and in cartridge form. Now days are different... we live in dark times. This Ace Attorney game only made it over as a digital download. The last one didn't make it at all. The security of our future Ace Attorney goodness is in jeapordy. Secure it. Go do some buying. Will post more later once I've played - game is currently downloading.
Mister Jack
I gotta say that while I still miss Maya, Athena is frickin adorable as hell.
Chronixal
Athena might be one of the best new characters in the series. And holy shit, her backstory. (Tell me you didn't get chills when THAT image appears in Simon's testimony.)
Mister Jack
I beat the game and if there's one thing that bothers me, it's... WHO THE HELL IS THE PHANTOM?!
Chronixal
Read some whining that there's a lack of punishment or it's too easy now. I disagree entirely, it actually makes more sense now as its only courtroom blunders that get you punished, as would generally be the case. Mister Jack
I don't see why it would be a bad thing that the game doesn't force you to constantly save and reload anymore. It took out the things that were a chore in the previous game so you could focus on the fun parts. Also it eliminated the hassle of randomly clicking on everything and going everywhere during investigations to remember what you were supposed to do. FMW
Okay, I've FINALLY finished this game. I kinda stalled out right at the end there. I actually have some issues with this game - I think a lot of the cases are pretty dumb. The writing contorts in goofy and unsatisfying ways to incorporate the special lawyer abilities of whoever you're playing as. The second case is a BUMMER of an "Ace Attorney greatest hits" retread with it's possession and summoning stuff (except not as good). One of the best new characters is shuffled out of the franchise at the end of the game. But here's the thing - AA 5 still leaves me with some optimism for the future of the franchise. This game takes care of an awful lot of ground work. The transition to 3D models works super well. The transition out of chiptune music works super well. The new status quo at the end with three distinct lawyers working together at the agency is a fantastic jumping off point for future installments. The character of Phoenix himself is actually evolving into more of a veteran father figure with the two youngsters taking turns being whipped by hot new prosecutors. So the fact that the case logic and court writing can be really dumb in this game is bad... but that doesn't mean that the next game will be dumb! The really good writer who did the original trilogy of these was busy with Ace Attorney vs. Professor Layton while AA 5 was in production, so if they tell me that they're making an AA 6 with that guy back on board I am 100% behind that project. Chronixal
Kind of agree and disagree on the writing and cases. I certainly felt case two to be the weakest of the and case three kind of throws in 'that' character just to go "Oh hey, Apollo had his own game to right?" But on the whole I found case 4/5 to be one of the best in the series IMO. The new characters were an absolute treat, Athena instantly became one of my favorites and Blackquill was brilliant. Definitely hoping he returns in some capacity.
