Mister Jack
So I guess that means it's not the OS. I feel like it has to be something with the app then. I just don't know what.
Thursday Next
Working fine for me on lollipop. Have you done the usual, reboot, battery pull (if possible), wipe cache, uninstall updates?
deanb
Yeah I'd wipe data/cache n see how that does for you. Means setting it all up again. Also maybe tried on other networks, might be something wrong with Google connections getting through (which given the moves Google are making on both ISPs and phone networks in US wouldn't surprise me if some of them decided to start fucking with Google traffic a bit). Â Also this thread loaded in the wrong place and I'm like "wait, why are folks wanting an Xperia Play in this day n age. Why is Mal still on a Gingerbread phone?". The past was a dark n scary place. Â In other news I'm like 7 or so months off a phone upgrade, and I've started to get itchy. I imagine it'll pass through. Really not sure what I'll go with next, don't get much of a massive use from the pen on my Note, and the weird bespoke hardware kinda makes it hard for custom roms and shit. And bonus is since the Note n such come out there's been more phablets from other companies so debating jumping around. I think LG has a pretty well reviewed phablet, n there's maybe the One+2 in future rumoured and folks with the One+1 seem pleased.
Thursday Next
folks with the One+1 seem pleased. Â One of us! One of us! One of us!
TheMightyEthan
I'm about 5 months from an upgrade and also getting antsy. Â I've pretty much got my eye on the S6 though.
Mister Jack
Uninstalling all my updates for Google seems to have fixed it for now. Also it's now offering me a list of sentence predictions to choose from when I use speech to text. Did it always do that?
Mister Jack
So I think I'm in the market for a new phone. Â I was fairly happy with my S3, considering its age, so I'm thinking of sticking with the Galaxy and just going for the S6. Â Has anyone here used one? Â Or heard anything about it? Faiblesse Des Sens
So I think I'm in the market for a new phone. Â I was fairly happy with my S3, considering its age, so I'm thinking of sticking with the Galaxy and just going for the S6. Â Has anyone here used one? Â Or heard anything about it? Â I still think it's bland looking but apparently it feels nice. I work like right next to T-Mobile so I've seen a ton of people using the S6 and the S6 Edge. The Edge looks like a gimmick and the reviews seem to indicate it's not worth the premium. If you like heavily locked down phones then it's a good choice. The LG G4 should be considered as well. Mister Jack
Even if the Edge was the same price I just couldn't do it. Â I'm pretty fastidious about the design of my devices and I just know that the asymmetry on the edge would drive me insane. Â It's a dumb reason, but even if I wasn't hung up on that I doubt the curved edge is really worth it anyway so it's just as well.

Perhaps they should name it "EdgeS"
deanb
Yeah, only the Note 4 Edge had only the one side with a curved edge. Â The main issue will be that most apps aren't going to support it, so you're only really gonna have the inbuilt stuff that make any use of it. Cool idea though, and likely to lead to newer things in the future.
TheMightyEthan
My main issue is the supposed "feature" that now you can see the notification light even when you lay the phone on its face. Â Thing is, I lay my phone on its face so IÂ can't see the notification light, such as at night when I'm sleeping.
Mister Jack
I turned the notification light on my phone off entirely because it would go off for every little thing, even steam messages, when I only wanted it to go off for voice mails and text messages. Faiblesse Des Sens
That's why I installed Light Flow.
TheMightyEthan
Is there any other benefit to the edge screen? I just feel like any possible use for it is such an edge case that it's pointless. Pardon the pun. Â *Edit - @FDS: how is the S6 more locked down than other phones? Genuine question.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Have you seen what it's like to deal with rooting a Samsung phone? Â Though I'm one to judge... I might be jumping to an Xperia Z3 Compact. My days as a Nexus user I know have spoiled me.
TheMightyEthan
I have an S4, though I've never really looked into rooting it.
Mister Jack
I ended up going with the Galaxy S6 32 GB in the gold color (which really looks more like chrome than gold). Â On another note, does anyone recommend any specific apps for the purpose of finding, locking, or wiping a lost phone? There's a lot to choose from here and there doesn't seem to be any consensus on which one is the best.
TheMightyEthan
Google device manager can do it, don't know why you'd need something else.
TheFlyingGerbil
The only real solution if your phone is taken, is to keep Liam Neeson on retainer.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Google device manager can do it, don't know why you'd need something else. Â Apps like Cerberus give you a million more options like alerting you if the SIM has been replaced, taking photos of the person using it, setting off an alarm, etc.
TheMightyEthan
So I didn't realize that there S6 doesn't let you install an SD card. That's a dealbreaker. I'm ready for an upgrade in a couple months, and has been planning on an S6, but now I'm wondering what phones you guys like. I don't want one that's just enormous, so not something like the Note.
Mister Jack
What are you upgrading from? Â I think the S5 still lets you use SD cards.
TheMightyEthan
S4. I'm keeping the S5 in mind, though I'd prefer to get a newer phone than that since I'm gonna have it for two years.
danielpholt
Ever looked at the G4? LG has been making some real nice phones in recent years, and the G4 seems to be improving on the already very well received G3. If you can hold out, One+ are announcing their new handset in about a month; that might be worth your attention. I've been using their original phone for almost 10 months now, and I think its fantastic.
