HotChops
Probably doesn't help though, since this is Team Bondi's first game. Why do you keep saying that? It might be their first game with Rockstar, but they did the Getaway.
TheMightyEthan
1) That's the first time I've ever said that. I have seen other people saying it though. 2) They didn't do The Getaway, Team Soho did. The founder of Team Bondi was the Director of Development for Team Soho, but it's not the same developer. Team Soho is now part of Sony Computer Entertainment London.
SomTervo
I cant in good conscience buy this game for more than 30 dollars. Why is that? I see it as 20-30 hours of HBO-quality crime drama, which is interactive and has branching paths through storylines. With a great simulation and a great script (though obviously this can only be attested in the retail release, and if it proves to be an actual failure critically I won't be getting it). To me it sounds easily worth the £40. And that's (almost) 80 of your American dollars! Edited May 11, 2011 by kenshi_ryden

P4: Gritty Reboot
I think the potential for disappointment is big with this one. Huge. Of epic proportions.
Mr. GOH!
I think the potential for disappointment is big with this one. Huge. Of epic proportions. Indeed. Let us not buy into the hype. Let us await the day of release, yea, verily, even the weeks following, and let us make our judgments then. I shall be renting this bad boy.

TheMightyEthan
I'm stoked for this game, and my stoke-o-meter has not let me astray since I can remember.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I feel like I'm walking into the same Brink trap, but this time the pre-order bonus has me hook line and sinker. There's no way I'm missing an entire case.

I didnt like gta4 at all, but i loved rdr, so to me rockstar doesnt have a definitive track record, thats why im not buying it full price, or at all. It surprises me to see how dividing GTA IV is with the community. I understand why some hate it, but it was one of the best games I ever played. TheMightyEthan
I understand why some hate [GTA IV] I don't, to be honest. I've heard reasons, but none of them make any sense to me.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I understand why some hate [GTA IV] I don't, to be honest. I've heard reasons, but none of them make any sense to me. People expected either something bigger than, or equal to, the carnage and insanity present in San Andreas. I may make others angry by assuming what they didn't like about the game, so I'll just say that some weren't happy with the overall change in tone and increased focus on realism. TheMightyEthan
Maybe that's part of it, I didn't really like San Andreas.

Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Did they address if you play as a different detective if you die?
TheMightyEthan
Did they address if you play as a different detective if you die? I haven't seen anything specifically addressing it, but the fact that everything I've seen talks about you playing as Cole Phelps specifically, I really doubt dying will make you become a different person. Likely you'll just go back to a checkpoint.
Yantelope
The article to the effect of dying repeatedly leads me to believe that dying just restarts you.

Some of us were just angry about the crippling PC performance that rendered the game unplayable.
HotChops
Did they address if you play as a different detective if you die? No way. They've spent god-knows-how-many months filming Aaron Stanton (Cole Philips) performance. There's no other detective that you'll play as if you die. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2011/may/13/la-noire-game-review?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter First LA Noire review is out. From The Guardian, of all places? Mod: Warning, plot spoiler in that review. Pretty vague, and probably predictable if you had thought about it much (or played any Rockstar game ever), but it's still there.
HotChops
That's one positive review. It sounds like my understanding of the open-world environment was correct.
Yantelope
early review is glowing with praise. I'm shocked.
TheMightyEthan
It's down now, apparently they "inadvertently" breached an embargo. Doesn't seem like Rockstar would be too upset about a 5-star review going out early, though.
Thursday Next
I understand why some hate [GTA IV] I don't, to be honest. I've heard reasons, but none of them make any sense to me. To me the GTA games were always about a rags to (ill gotten) riches tale. Vice City was pretty much Scarface with a happy ending, San Andreas too charted the rise to greatness of a nobody from the hood. GTAIV had none of that, it felt dull, grey and bland as a result. ^In my opinion.^
