Yantelope
I agree that GTA IV's story has been lacking. I hear that Lost and the Damned is better but I haven't gotten that far. I'm actually working my way through GTA IV PC for the first time (glitches and all) right now and I think I'm enjoying it less because of RDR. It seems like there aren't many rewards as you progress through the game and I found the gunplay and story far more fun in RDR. It's not a bad game and it's still very impressive from a technical standpoint but I do find the core game somewhat lacking.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
One of the more interesting bits of the review said that while it isn't as open-ended as GTA or RDR, it is a very, very meaty game. We, we, we so excited.
SomTervo
I never really had any doubt that it wouldn't be good to a certain degree. Nice to hear that it's that good though. Think about it this way- Rockstar weren't going to put a bad title out. With them guiding the development and ideas from an early stage, but letting Bondi innovate what they want, it was set to be good. Rockstar's Quality Control must be unreal. While I feel it might be a bit of fail as a 'game', it should be great as an 'experience' or 'drama'. But hopefully the game part's good, too! Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I am going to the midnight launch tonight. In their continuing effort to make us feel like 5-year-olds, GameStop told me that they're making their store look like a crime scene. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Giant Bomb reviews LA Noire. 5 stars! http://www.giantbomb.com/la-noire/61-21500/reviews/ I AM SO EXCITED
TCP
IGN, who love handing out overly high scores, only gave it an 8.5. I don't know, it'd be tough to be Rockstars follow up to Red Dead Redemption.
Hot Heart
I ignore Eurogamer due to their "Ignore technical merits and go on complete gut feelings" mentality when they review their games; a complete disservice to the presentation part of the games. I'm pretty sure Eurogamer just hates video games. Ugh, I hate people.
deanb
I assume that's from the Giantbomb review? This is hte same EG that I linked yesterday as the guys who run Digital Foundry? tbh I quite like EG reviews. But yeah is this the same Giantbomb review where a ctrl+f on "bondi" finds it only 3 times. twice in the comments one once on the "developer" section. Rockstar on the other hand pops up 9 times. I've never read a Giantbomb review before, but I don't think I want to dip into this one too much.
Hot Heart
That was from Kotaku (shouldn't really expect better); their Frankenreview thing. Eurogamer's review sounded pretty fair and they still gave it 8/10. Just because it's a big game, with Rockstar involved, doesn't mean it should get at least a 9. If he liked the game, he liked the game, and that's what a review should tell you.
TheMightyEthan
It shows a lack of effort going into the review though, if they're not even bothering to talk about the people who actually made the game but just the publisher. *Edit* - Just out of curiosity, since the lack of multiplayer means it doesn't really matter, but which platform did everyone get it on? I got it for PS3.
deanb
It does matter when it's two different developers. Bit of an oversight. I'd equally dismiss any Human Revolution reviews that have a game coming from a company known for their JRPGs.
Mister Jack
I really hope the general gaming public doesn't reject this game once they find out that it's not like Grand Theft Auto and you can't go around shooting and running over people at your leisure. That might sound silly but that's what a lot of people who don't follow game news buy sandbox games for.
Strangelove
Yeah, I heard that happened with Halo Wars. A lot of people sold it back because it wasnt an FPS. I can see it. Id hate to buy a new God Of War game only to play it and realize its a point and click game. Or ughhhhh....a football game.
TheMightyEthan
God, I can't imagine dropping $60 on a game based on absolutely nothing but the name. That Halo Wars mistake would require that they not even glance at the back of the box.
excel_excel
The Phoenix Wright comparisons in the great Eurogamer review made me tingle! Definetly getting this in a few weeks for PS3.
Hot Heart
I have to say, Totilo's preview did look pretty cool. http://kotaku.com/5802203/14-minutes-of-la-noires-unexpected-thrills
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
You can play it entirely in Black and White? Awesome. I'll be doing that.
TheMightyEthan
I won't, but it is a nifty option. Come to think of it, you can play any game you want in black and white: just turn the saturation on your TV/monitor all the way down. Mister Jack
God, I can't imagine dropping $60 on a game based on absolutely nothing but the name. That Halo Wars mistake would require that they not even glance at the back of the box. If you drop sixty dollars on a game without reading anything about it, including the back of the box, then you don't deserve to have money. That's the way I see it.
