L.A. Noire

Just various little things in games, like in LA Noire it gives you an option in your notebook to spend intuition points doing an "ask the audience" type thing during questioning, tells you what responses other Social Club members picked. I'm sure it does other things.

As for sharing IDs, I dunno, I just saw that it said I have 0 friends and I wanted friends. :D

@Ethan: Really? I'm glad. There are two user reviews on Metacritic, neither of which are too great, and one cites his main issue as the games difficulty being extremely low.

Having said that, in his review he also states that he was about 5 hours in and was hoping he hadn't seen all the game had to offer. Obviously didn't realise it's a 20-30 hour game.

Doesn't surprise me, interrogations are flipping hard.

I somehow can't enjoy this game. It has absolutely no challenge. You just have to look at the witness' face and press one button. Bam, case solved. Maybe I'm missing something, but it's too fucking easy.

hmmm... would either of you elaborate, please.

It might come down to just how good you are at reading people. I've gotten a whole hell of a lot better at it since I posted that, but I still wouldn't call them easy. Some witnesses are easy to read, others aren't, but I think that's probably realistic.

I was hoping that into the last few hours of the game the interrogations would get significantly harder. To reflect, you know, the whole 'games are harder as you progress' thing.

However, I'm going to be playing for the story and drama more than the gameplay or challenge. Is it good in that respect? I've got my final, most important exam tomorrow, then I'm free as a baird to play it up on Friday. This exam is not going to go well though.

Yeah, the story is pretty intense. Not to spoil anything, but you can expect a strong story arc carrying through a set of cases.

Also, it's not nearly as easy for me. And did you know you can turn off most of the assists, if you find collecting evidence and the like to be a piece of cake?

I will probably turn off a lot, if not all, of the assists.

Not quite the same thing, but I played the entirety of RDR without any aim-assist; although that may have been partly why I felt the combat was just a bit lame.

Eurogamer said you'd be a masochist to turn off hints...but this should be different though.

I hope...

Ah, thanks Duke. That's good to hear.

Yeah I knew you can turn the assists off, and I plan on it. The feeling of satisfaction in games like Red Johnson or Pheonix Wright when you work a case out without using hints, is just unreal. Considering the level of simulation in this game, that should heighten the immersion significantly.

Same, Hottie. Tbh, I liked the combat in RDR even though I had it on Expert aiming- but in GTAIV I found the combat really frustrating and awkward without auto-aim on. In RDR you can really feel the shots, and people go down realistically, but in GTAIV whenever you fired without auto-aim it just felt like nothing was happening and your bullets were about as effective as plastic ball bearings.

True, wildlife was a bastard.

Undead Nightmare is pretty good without auto-aiming, as if you have auto-aiming on and you target a fast mover zombie, they're at your feet and you're staring at the ground before you can say "THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK".

@L.A. Noire owners: what's the out-of-crime gameplay like? The city and side crimes, etc.

Most of the open-world stuff is driving around, finding landmarks. The side crimes are handled in an interesting fashion; you'll get a call on the radio, and if you want to take it, you hit A and follow the new marker. You drive up and start the side crime missions. I haven't played much of them, but the ones that I have boiled down to gunfights/foot chases/car chases. It's pretty fun, though other than that, there isn't really anything else to do in the city. I don't really mind, but I'm sure some people do.

Also, it's really weird that I'm getting specific achievements for completing different parts of the GameStop pre-order case. Is it impossible to get the full 1000 without having all the bonuses?

I've already redone a couple that I did especially poorly on.

Yeah, I've been thinking about doing that for one.

Two things:

1. This case I just took is so damn noir that I had to turn the Black and White filter on. Hits every staple of the genre to a "T". The only thing missing was a deep narration by the main character.

2. Cole Phelps is a genius. You'll see what I mean later...

I lied. THREE things.

3. The game threw me for a loop when it made commentary on the current war in the Middle-East. It didn't break character or anything; it just surprised me that they were able to tie that issue up with problems of the past.
