deanb
That'd be a fair comparison if easter wasn't pre-gregorian and we didn't hate it too. Our bank holidays move around, but we don't release things then (cos they're usually Mondays. Good Friday being the odd one). You don't get to rule most of the world by being disorganised with simple things like dates
Thursday Next
AND it moves between around the 25th to 30th May every year as well. At least when you say "Boxing Day" it's the 26th December every year. Not some arbitrary 2 Tuesday of the month except on even numbered years that start on a Monday bollocks. You mean like Easter, which is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21? We Americans are so ridiculous with our complicated "last Monday of May". I'm not criticising the timing of memorial day, I'm criticising the use of a moveable holiday as a release date. I've never seen a UK movie advertised with a release date of "Coming Easter", largely because it moves about and people would shrug their shoulders and say "No idea when that is coming out then." and would miss the big day. (Unless they are parents in which case they'll have a vague idea due to school holidays.)
TheMightyEthan
Ah. In the US Memorial Day and Labor Day are kind of big holidays, marking the unofficial beginning and end of summer, respectively, so people do lots of cookouts and stuff, almost everyone's off work, etc. I couldn't tell you the exact date Memorial Day is on next year, but it definitely gives me a rough idea of when the movie is coming out (end of May) and there's no way to miss that it's Memorial Day Weekend once it actually arrives. TCP
Yes but Thursday Next's issue is no one who's not American knows when Memorial Day is, and when you're releasing a debut trailer on the internet, in an era where American ticket sales only make up a fraction of a movies profit, it's stupid move.
TheMightyEthan
I understand that, I'm just explaining that in the US at least it does give a reasonable idea. I agree that it's dumb to use an American holiday for an international trailer.
Thursday Next
Pretty much as TCP says. Memorial day could be any time of the year. If I'd been asked to guess I'd have gone for "November-ish" since that's general war memorial season in the UK so I have no idea whether to mentally file as "coming soon" or "coming later". (I wasn't anywhere near annoyed as I appeared by the way. A 5 second trip to Google solved the mystery. It's just dumb Americentric nonsense that annoys me. I was just venting for fun.) Back to the point in hand. I liked the other recent Xmans but I feel a bit burnt out on the franchise. Also, Sansa as Jean Grey does not excite me. deanb
Slowly building up. And I'd guess upcoming Empire is gonna focus on it too.
deanb
Final trailer. Seems to be missing the mark a bit, some things in it are a bit "meh" so far. I guess the ending bit is neat, n the "Magento is my father" bit but otherwise... Other two were good though so I dunno, gets a bit of a +1 for that I guess. TCP
That trailer came closer to getting me hyped than the others but still... something's off with this movie. Which is weird because I was so very excited for Days of Future Past. Edited April 25, 2016 by The Cowboy Poet
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I'm more excited by that trailer than I was by any of the others. I might even see this one in theaters.
TCP
I'll see anything with Sansa Stark in it in theatres, especially after what she did in last night's Game of Thrones episode.
TheMightyEthan
especially after what she did in last night's Game of Thrones episode. I know you're joking but
deanb
Reviews aren't sounding very positive, but this is neat thing to come out of it
TCP
Damn, there was significantly more Jubilee in that video than in the movie. Jeeeeze. My update X-rankings: 1) Days of Future Past 2) First Class 3) Deadpool 4) Apocalypse 5) X2 6) The Wolverine 7) X-Men 8) The Last Stand 9) Literally anything else 10) Wolverine Origins
TCP
Here's how TCP would fix the X-Men franchise in 8 simple steps. 1) I wouldn't bring out a new ensemble X-Men film for at least 5 years. 2) I would make really smart casting decisions (like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool) for characters we haven't really seen before. 3) Couple these good casting decisions with the right directors and solid scripts and start releasing solo X-Men films (like Deadpool) once a year. 4) I'd have all the solo films be different types of films. Do another Deadpool movie that's a comedy. A Cable movie could be a war film. A Quicksilver film could be a coming-of-age film. Gambit could be a heist film (??? I don't know what you'd do with Gambit). Mix in characters that fans have been wanting like X-23. 5) Take all of your new solo X-Men pair them together in an X-Men film. See, movie goers have come to really enjoy these characters in their solo films, so bringing them together and seeing them interact will be part of the fun. 6) Keep Professor X as a Nick Fury type character but lay off Magneto, Wolverine, and Mystique. Do not have Professor X get kidnapped. Don't let villain's use cerebro for evil. Basically, stop repeating storylines 7) Pay really, really, close attention to your lore. Plan these movies out years ahead of time. Don't end a film with a character like Wolverine getting captured by Mystique and then not even have that be referenced in the next film. 8) Do sequel solo films, add in a few new heroes for their own solo films, combine together for a new X-Men film, and repeat. Spoilers: it's basically "do what Marvel did".
deanb
Neat music choice. Also old Patrick Stewart....err for what that's worth Prof X n Wolverine Road Trip movie. (also that's X-23 I assume)
TheMightyEthan
Wait, so what timeline is this in? Or did mutants all get "cured" in Apocalypse?
deanb
I'd guess it's in its own timeline, much the same as how Old Man Logan is in the comics. e.g MCU is Earth-199999, Old Man Logan is Earth-807128. A "possible" future.
TCP
Great song choice. Great trailer. Today is the day that keeps on giving.
toxicitizen
Looks much better than I would've expected. But the main thing I got from this trailer is that Hugh Jackman needs to play Joel if that TLoU movie ever happens. I mean, just look at the bit at 1:30.
Mister Jack
Looks like they're opening up more to the idea of R-rated comic book movies thanks to the success of Deadpool. That's good, especially since they seem to really be taking advantage of the added freedom instead of just exploiting the rating to be edgy like Batman v Superman. deanb
Yup it's 18-rated. Set in 2024, Logan and Professor Charles Xavier must cope with the loss of the X-Men at the hands of a corporation led by Nathaniel Essex. With Logan's healing abilities slowly fading and Xavier's Alzheimer's hampering his memory, Logan must defeat Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine. I guess that means the end of Apocalypse was a tease for this? Also it has Richard E. Grant in it which is always neat (found out recently his autobiogrpahy is called "With Nails" ). People have noted his twitching is either(though possibly both) his excessive drinking or cooler: the fact his healing is reduced the big foot long claws springing out of his forearm through his wrist and out his knuckles are probably severely fucking with his tendons. deanb
Sticking this in here since he's an x-men though I don't think this is following the Fox stuff at all.
deanb
New, and if Patrick Stewart is to be believed (I hear he's talking a lot of shit these days...or he's a talking shit...somehting like that) this is also the last. Which I guess shows a fair chunk of confidence in Wolverine. Which I guess is doable at this point, he has been Wolverine for like 17 years. (red band) Oh there was also another trailerfor Legion, though mostly the same as the first.
deanb
The Deadpool 2 Teaser that's seemingly showing at some cinemas but not at others.
