Showmeyomoves!
Fred, I think you might want to catch up on the thread. More specifically T-Next's post at the top of this page. peteer01
The other complaint I heard was that the shooting sucked; but after the tutorial there really isn't much need to use guns at all. This. There's even an achievement for beating the game without ever firing a gun (outside of the tutorial). Just cause it's got a first-person viewpoint doesn't mean it's an FPS. Just watched this week's episode of Extra Credits and instantly thought of this achievement. I haven't even played the game and that achievement sounds like the best example of what they're talking about that I could think of. FredEffinChopin
Fred, I think you might want to catch up on the thread. More specifically T-Next's post at the top of this page. Woops, haha thanks for the heads up, not sure how I missed that. I'm glad that it isn't 100% official yet, even though it doesn't sound terribly promising. Keeping my fingers crossed. Yantelope
Most everyone I know liked Mirror's Edge. I'm surprised that a lot of reviewers didn't "get it". I will say that I got it for $20 and it was worth all of that but perhaps it was a quite short for a $60 game. Still, I beat it least 3 times which is something I haven't done with any other game in recent history.
excaliburps
Yep. If you read what the developers have to say it's definitely not canceled. Just on hiatus. DICE is working on BF3. They've been working on it for more than half a a decade already. In short, it's DICE's and EA's big game for this year. They don't want any other game to interfere with its sales. Aside from ME3 that is. Heck, the DICE devs I've talked to can't even comment on ME. Be it that it's canceled, or in prod. That's a good thing, right? So, imagine ME2 in Frostbite 2...Yeah. Those graphics and environments with real-time destructibility for a FPP? Fuck yeah!

To be on hiatus means it needs to have been developed at all at some point. There's no indication that even that has happened. DICE seems to want to make another ME but it's EA that's going to decide if they ever get that chance again. EA is saying no right now. Some higher up from EA did say that they're not forsaking or leaving the ME franchise to die. I think it was Patrick Bach of all people. Although I doubt they'll reveal anything soon. I mean BF3 is still BF3. Side-note, Is it just me or does saying ME really remind me of Mass Effect. Saying ME and "dead" or something feels weird. It reminds me of the Neo Geo Pocket and Next Generation Portable. (I really hope Sony doesn't go with NGP as a name...) If I see someone talking about ME, I tend to think Mass Effect instead of Mirror's Edge unless there's some context.

Same with GoW. It's God of War to me. Mostly because it is the senior franchise compared to Gears. Minor nitpick.
FredEffinChopin
There's no indication that even that has happened. The article linked in the OP indicates it. Also some time in 09 it was announced that a small team was working on it. Side-note, Is it just me or does saying ME really remind me of Mass Effect. Saying ME and "dead" or something feels weird. M'sE? No, that doesn't look right either. MxE? For all you straight-edge people? Edited February 28, 2011 by FredEffinChopin

DICE themselves said they learned a ton of things regarding ME is concerned. Y'know what, I actually haven't played it. Is it that good? FredEffinChopin
Y'know what, I actually haven't played it. Is it that good? That's a rough one to answer. As I moved through the story mode I did a whole lot of bitching, mainly about the controls and how they often didn't seem to work quite as intended. While I loved the visual setting, enjoyed the characters, and wasn't repelled by the storyline (though not exactly roped in either), I'd have to say that the game at times came off as more of a cautious endeavor, not quite as robust as I'd have liked, but rather a promise of a strong future to come, sort of like the first Assassin's Creed. There were definitely some memorable moments, some from repetition, though several just from being exciting from a presentational and gameplay standpoint. While the controls sort of clicked for me at some point while going through the (sometimes mercilessly frustrating) time trials/speedruns after the game was complete, I can't say that they will ever click for most people who don't have the patience to sit and struggle with the game like the way I did. People shouldn't have to work that hard or rely on chance for basic functions to perform as they are supposed to, this was a serious shortcoming on the part of the game. Anyway, to answer simply: I enjoyed it a lot eventually, but I can't say I recommend the game to just anyone, or that I even think it's that great. A bit of a flawed execution, but still worth it if one is willing to put the work in.
deanb
Yeah it was one of my games from last summer and I raged a bit about it. http://deanbmmv.wordpress.com/2010/09/10/game-completionist-week5/ Same as Fred the controls just didn't quite react as expected. But it has promise, just a bit of spit n polish, maybe expand the game out a bit more.
Showmeyomoves!
Y'know what, I actually haven't played it. Is it that good? It's not perfect by any means, but I loved the visual style and the gameplay. It felt really "fresh", for lack of a better word. That's not something I can say about many games these days, so that's why it stuck out to me. I've heard plenty of people say they didn't like it / were disappointed, though. excaliburps
I'll see if I can get it cheap here. Although I am a bit cautious as the vids I've seen imply to me that this game might make me dizzy/sick with all the jumping, climbing, etc. I don't normally get sick with FPS' but it happened to me a couple of times... NeoStarr
It's probably more likely to give you motion sickness than other FPS games are.
excel_excel
I really enjoyed the story mode. The story itself was enjoyable for me, and I liked the cutscenes. The time trails just didn't do it for me though. You had to be perfect in those modes with the controls and everything.

I don't need to rush and grab this...I've got a back log of single player games I want to play...but the next time I'm in the states, I'm going to try to find a cheap copy.
