Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
http://kotaku.com/5853375/ps3-owners-youre-not-getting-a-free-copy-of-battlefield-1943-after-all Hey, turns out something that was promised on disc for PS3 owners won't be available at all! Way to bait and switch your customers, DICE!
Thursday Next
It was mentioned a couple of times way back when during E3. When is the last time you heard EA or DICE promise to include 1943? In lieu of including 1943, EA are instead offering early access to all PS3 owners for the map packs, which, imho, is a better deal for PS3 owners. Â The BF1943 thing was a bad idea anyway. PSU's for that title are waaaaaay down, like in the low thousands. If EA had had hundreds of thousands suddenly trying to connect to the <10,000 available slots it would have been an unmitigated disaster. Fire and brimstone falling out of the sky, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria. Â Now admittedly, EA weren't actively promoting that the 1943 thing had been dropped, but no-where on any pre-order pages does it say anything about including 1943. Nezacant
Yeah they aren't missing anything. Â The player limit is being discussed over on the EAUK forums so with any luck, DICE will spot the thread and change it. We were able to turn ours down. Makes a huge difference. The downside to running anything outside of default is that our server will not have those who click "Play Now!" The only way to connect to it is via the server browser. GunFlame
I think the fact that many were surprised by it, means that it really wasn't clear enough. Somewhere, something went a miss. Â I would expect that only a few people, a tiny amount would have bought it because of the free game. But still, they would have seen it as a bonus even if they didn't buy it with that as the incentive. EA should really have done more to clarify this. Â Now, you could say it isn't a huge deal, but if that was the case, why would they go out of there way to offer content earlier to PS3 players and then also try and justify how cool a deal that really is? Â To be honest, it's a shitty deal. They lose something they where told they would have for free, in exchange for something they might not want, and if they did, they would have to pay for.
Johnny
To be honest it's getting to the point where I am less sympathetic towards EA than Ubisoft.
Thursday Next
I admit, the change of offer may not be to everyone's taste. But, like I said, the 1943 offer has not been repeated on any marketing since E3. Consumers have had plenty of time to change their minds. Â That said, yes, the communication of the change of offer was very poor.
Nezacant
To be honest it's getting to the point where I am less sympathetic towards EA than Ubisoft. Why would you be sympathetic toward any of them? They are the 1%.
Johnny
"less sympathetic" is in this case a more polite way of saying "more hateful" =)

Thursday Next
Stats can be reset easily enough. I assume you've not done anything n00btacular like log in with the wrong Origin Account or changed your user name and forgotten to put in the new one? Â EDIT: In fact, this account has been banned. EA's aware of the Aim-botters. Expect a swathe of stat resets in the near future. Edited October 26, 2011 by Thursday Next
deanb
It asks for your origin account email rather than origin account name, and I only have one email for stuff like that. If it was a case of wrong account surely it would say "incorrect account/password" type error than a "you are not allowed to log-in"? btw do you know what would rock? Cookies. The simple joy of loading up a site and being logged in automatically. There isn't even a "remember me" and LastPass seems to not notice that it's a log-in page either so I can't do it through that. Nezacant
Punkbuster wasn't enabled by default so many servers don't have it running yet. It was up to the admins to install the PB mod if they wanted it. We have it running on ours. Even still, there is no such thing as a hack proof system. If it follows in the tradition of BC2, then a few weeks down the line when the kinks are worked out with PB, then we would be required to run it to be a ranked server. Â Punkbuster has issues every time a game supports it at lanuch. This time around it magically kicks people for no reason. Has something to do with some clients PB not auto updating. MasterDex
Punkbuster on its own sucks. Master ban lists combined with PB and vigilant admins are the best. The problem with PB is that it relies on the data that PB have which is often outdated and hard to keep up to date with the rate at which new hacks and methods appear. In my time moderating servers, I've probably come across less than 100 official PB bans but have banned probably quadruple that number of suspects myself with the MBLs keeping roughly the same again from staying connected. Â PB should never be relied upon on its own. It's a tool that compliments rather completes any anti-hacking solution. Considering the greater flexibility of PB however, I'd still rather it be used over VAC any day of the week. I think anyone that's moderated a server using both systems would be inclined to agree though I'm willing to bet the opposite would be true for players as PB can be a total bitch sometimes. Â Also, two things that developers should do: 1st person killcams - even if it's just for the server admins. The 3rd person killcams and especially DICE's character facing killcam can throw doubt into suspicion of hacking. Battlerecorder - This was a really handy asset in checking out suspect players after the fact since it allowed such flexibility in viewing. It needs to come back. deanb
I use Chrome too. Though LastPass replaces the native system. However I'm not removing LastPass due to one defective site though

Punk Buster had a function that allowed for an admin to request a screen shot from a client. It was a way to check for wall hacks. Unfortunately, the shit never worked. There was talk that they were going to make sure it worked for BF3. I haven't tried it yet. I'll return with that verdict.
MasterDex
Yeah, the PB screenshots were never very reliable. Â In other news, =IBF2= should have a UK based server up and running by Friday so I'll probably be spending a lot of my time in-game over there. It's only going to be a 24-man server though so space may be at a premium. If it's full and any of you are wanting to join, let me know and I'll see about finding a spot for ya. Nezacant
Like wise Dex. We can actually help each other out by helping populate each other's servers. We have some UK guys too that would love to play on a friendly server.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
http://www.giantbomb...-promised/3770/ Alex Navarro adds his own voice to the whole Battlefield 1943 controversy. Â I agree with him that the problem is not that it isn't included, but that no one notified customers of this AT ALL before they started complaining about it being missing.
