Luftwaffles
Nice nice. I'm supposed to get the beta for buying Medal of Honor, but I suppose I might have to activate that to my EA account sometime soon. Honestly, how the beta is probably determines whether or not I buy the game. I'd like to try and get it on steam if possible, of course. Â I'm more curious to see if the beta includes any other maps and if the dolphin diving gets fixed. Every alpha video I've seen so far has the players running around like it's COD, and that kinda worries me.
deanb
So in order to play BF3 alpha: You have to use Origin. Despite what has been said in the past you can't just use Origin as downloader then forget about it Launching the game launches your web browser which in turn is needed to actually launch the game You need to install a browser plug-in so you can do matchmaking from the browser. Something that wouldn't be needed if it skipped step 2 and just launched the effing game. Oh I was going to write this up after playing a few matches, but seeing as it's taking a while to find a match I thought I'd do it now. I also have no idea what will happen if I leave that page. Maritan
Yeah, even launching the game is a pain in the ass. The game itself though is pretty nice, but it needs a lot of tweaking. Well, it's alpha. Edited July 27, 2011 by Maritan
Yantelope
Alpha and beta have lost their original meanings. Alpha used to be really preliminary and not really that playable. Â Also, if you bought MoH on the Xbox can you get the BF3 beta on PC?
Luftwaffles
You should be able to. Â I think you just have to make sure it's added to your EA account and it should be fine.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Maybe I'm cynical as hell, but I think Battlefield 3 and SWTOR will fail MISERABLY for EA.
Thursday Next
Alpha and beta have lost their original meanings. Alpha used to be really preliminary and not really that playable. Â Also, if you bought MoH on the Xbox can you get the BF3 beta on PC? Â They still mean the same at EA. Â Alpha = Feature Complete. Beta = No unknown bugs. deanb
So when you say Alpha is feature complete does that mean that this whole "launch from a browser" and "only have a handful of graphic configuration" stuff is the complete feature set of the game?
Thursday Next
Alpha / Feature Complete means that all the maps, guns, levels etc are in the game and are testable. No new content should be added once a game has been declared Alpha. Â How those features work is still in flux. So while a new menu screen shouldn't be added the content of that menu screen could change. While a new gun shouldn't be added everything from its graphical appearance to its stats can change. Â Of course that's how it's supposed to work. In reality games will often be declared Alpha before being feature complete as dev payments can be linked to hitting such milestones. Â If you have any questions specific to the Alpha, I strongly recommend you drop them in the BF3 Alpha forums so as to avoid breaching any NDA that you may have had to agree to. I'm sure someone from EA / DICE will respond to you there. Â I'm not saying that any of that is specifically true for BF3, that's just how things work in the industry generally. Vargras
Maybe I'm cynical as hell, but I think Battlefield 3 and SWTOR will fail MISERABLY for EA. Â BF3 and SWTOR will still sell like hot cakes. Â I still remain optimistic about SWTOR, but looking at the alpha forums for BF3 leaves me with the feeling that it truly is just another Bad Company game, except somehow worse. Luftwaffles
First impressions... it's really... not very good. But honestly, I think it would be a lot better on a different map. Give me Wake Island or Gulf of Oman in the beta and I'll be happy as a clam. Â This, though (especially all the bullshit necessary to even get in a game) just feels like an oddly linear Medal of Honor MP more than a Battlefield multiplayer. The players don't help, but I have high hopes it would be different on a better map. Â I love both BC2 and BF2 to death, but this has taken some of the worst parts of both games and somehow combined them together. But perhaps my standards are just too high. Vargras
First impressions... it's really... not very good. Â Pretty much. Just got in and played a bit. What a clusterfuck (just launching the game is horrendous). Â They've added and taken away so much shit that lone-wolf gameplay is almost constantly encouraged. Luftwaffles
It feels a LOT like the Medal of Honor multiplayer honestly. Â Which wasn't all that bad, but it's not the Battlefield 3 I was hoping for.
Yantelope
Seriously though, how did everyone get alpha keys?
Vargras
Seriously though, how did everyone get alpha keys? Â The only requirement I remember from the email was that you had a Veteran account, I.E. you've played 1942/2142/BF2 at some point.

Yantelope
Ah, I have BFBC but haven't played it online in a long time. I also have BF2 but it's an original copy and the key doesn't work any more, probably got claimed by someone with a keygen or something. deanb
Gave it another shot this morning. Pretty much every single server is full. Apparently. Even the ones with 23/32, or even 5/32. Full to the brim.  Also got an email with like the "hey you're in stuff"  Anywho: WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACKTell us about your Alpha Trial experience.  So I clicky the link. After regional gate, age gate then logging in*, it...shows me the game key I already got the other day.  There is a survey on the battleog site, but as I've yet to be able to launch the game I can't really answer half the questions.   *woot for no cookies ¬_¬
Saturnine Tenshi
If it plays like a Battlefield game and not Modern Warfare with vehicles, I'll be buying it for PC. That's also assuming I can somehow circumvent Origin. Which is complete fucking garbage.
Vargras
If it plays like a Battlefield game and not Modern Warfare with vehicles, I'll be buying it for PC. That's also assuming I can somehow circumvent Origin. Which is complete fucking garbage. Â As of right now, you can't circumvent it (and it's an absolute clusterfuck as to how to launch it). Â You click the game in Origin, and on most other platforms, it would just launch right away, right? Â Wrong. On Origin, clicking BF3 instead takes you to the Battlelog, which is basically a stat tracking website. From there, you then click to join multiplayer, and once it finds an open game, THEN you can launch BF3. That better not make it into the full game, because that's a horrendous way to launch a game. Saturnine Tenshi
What? What? Seriously. What? Oh, EA. You never fail to fail. Â Well, this is an Alpha, so things can change. At least there's still Red Orchestra 2. Wait. There's still Red Orchestra 2. YEAH!
Mal
Wow. Make some noise and make that shit go away before beta. Yeah you can still play the game just fine but its these small things that will annoy people.
Maritan
ok, I need to inform(I'm sure a lot of players have noticed this, but still) DICE about one problem with Russian voice work. It is (mostly) very good, except one class, I think it's support. I don't know why, but instead of hiring another Russian actor(like they did in bc 1-2) to voice him they've clearly invited some dude from eastern Europe to voice him, and it sounds horrible. So, the question is, how to make DICE aware of this problem? I know that they won't change anything at this stage, but I want to make sure they won't make the same mistake again.
