Mister Jack
Not particularly good and thus undeserving of the good movie thread, but not bad enough to go in the crap thread. This is for the "meh" movies you've seen.
Hot Heart
Red Cliff. Â I had heard very good things so it was possibly hyped too much. It was pretty and had a great score, but it was just lots of good guys doing good things and being wise (and there seemed to be some sort of 'clever' analogy every fifteen minutes) while the bad guys do bad things and be stupid. Can't say it was crap; I blame myself for expecting too much from it.
Mister Jack
I got Shrek 4 from Netflix simply because it was free. It was better than 3 but that's not much of an accomplishment. Somewhere along the way the series just became too character driven, which is an odd complaint but fairy tales aren't actually about deep characterization. The movie didn't really play with the whole Grimm Fables thing more than an occasional sight gag. I didn't hate Shrek 4 but if I had paid money I might have been a little mad. Battra92
Last night I watched a couple of melodramatic shorts by D.W. Griffith. They were made in 1910 so I can appreciate how filmmaking and acting as an art was so young but today they are more historical pieces than of entertainment. staySICK
Sorcerer's Apprentice. It wasn't too bad, kinda funny.
CorgiShinobi
Dead Space Aftermath  Watch the movie only if you're a Dead Space fan. The 3D animation is very basic, like mid-90's ReBoot level. It's like Batman Gotham Knight where each story is animated differently, and just like that movie, this one has a mix bag of quality. In my opinion, those that animated Stross's story did the best. Those who did Cho's story... I mean, Stross was ripped, and we all know he's a research weakling.  Still, you'll be interested in this if you're into Dead Space. I kinda felt bad for Stross in Dead Space 2, but the movie paints a different picture.
TheFlyingGerbil
Young Frankenstein. I know it's supposed to be a classic but I just didn't think it was funny. It wasn't bad enough for me to turn off but I did end up with my reading book open.  Joe  EDIT: Just watched The Prestige. It was enjoyable but rather obvious 'twist' and I am usually blindsided by twisted so it must have been really clunky. Cyber Rat
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Â Not bad, but not really good IMO. It feels like it missed so many opportunities to do something great.
Mr W Phallus
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 Â Just because I feel like it, here's some in-depth analysis. Â Dead Man's Chest: I was actually pleasantly surprised by this. Mostly I think it just suffered from sequelitis, where the plot seems to have been written around the set pieces, and said set-pieces are too over-the-top and silly for my taste (although I do quite like the rolling water-wheel 3 way fight scene). The CGI, too, goes overboard, with many of Davy Jones' crew becoming a mess of visual noise, Bootstrap Bill Turner's design proves that sometimes less is more. The film still manages to deliver in terms of comedy, though, and ultimately this is where it excels, with Depp and the supporting cast managing to compensate for the damage caused by Knightly and especially Bloom. Not a bad film, then, but at 2 and a half hours a (mostly) stellar cast, an interesting mythology and plentiful references to it's superior predecessor are not enough to hide the lack of a plot. Â At World's End: I can't quite make my mind up about this film, which seems appropriate since the film can't seem to decide what it wants to be either. The opening is incredibly bleak, depicting mass hangings where even children aren't spared. This seriousness is seemingly carried over into the next scene, a covert pirate meeting in Singapore (or somewhere equally oriental), the weight of colonial oppression is heavy in the air. It seems out of place then, when the familiar raggedy crew of the Black Pearl turns up, complete with coconut scuba helmets, a midget beating up an enormous fat man and a monkey letting off fireworks. Then the tense espionage and infiltration/comedy suddenly explodes into a chaotic action scene. The problem with At World's End isn't that the individual parts are bad, but the parts simply don't gel together as well as they did in the first film. Disjointed, too long but enjoyable none-the-less, if anything else it should be commended for bringing surrealist elements to a major Disney cash-cow franchise.
Mr. GOH!
I saw Win Win this weekend. A quirky dramedy about a small town lawyer/high school wrestling coach played by Paul Giamatti. It wasn't great or anything, but very watchable and one of the rare modern comedies that isn't focused on middle aged men acting like 12 year old boys. P4: Gritty Reboot
Saw Limitless this weekend. The concept is interesting, if scientifically flawed; however, the movie does very little with it. I, a casual moviegoer, thought of more creative directions they could have gone with the premise (a pill that puts your brain on overdrive). That being said, the acting was OK and I suppose it was interesting enough to keep me watching the whole time.
deanb
Certainly not for everyone, and I've yet to finish but it's looking pretty good. Thought I'd grab it since I'm in a 40K mood again with DOWII.The CG quality isn't great:The faces mainly, the over the top stuff of the space marines is all kinda there. Fortunately for the animators the planet they visit has a weird dust cloud thing over it...The VA is pretty damn good and some high profile voices in there. It's certainly not some bedroom fan production. (though it's certainly no Pixar/Dreamworks production either )While up to now it's kinda leaving a bit to be desired it's really selling to me the viability of a 40,000 TV series. Kinda like Clone Wars. While kinda niche compared to something like star wars, it's got a fair bit of story to work with. I can't see it going too badly for Games Workshop either if they were to do it. And there's the TPS and MMO coming up.Oh yeah it followed the path of some ejected cartridges:edit: You know how I mentioned about things handily been in a dust storm. They're now in a dark chapel n fighting a Deamon. You hardly get to see it
Hot Heart
Got Hancock on DVD for real cheap and gave it a watch. Â It's certainly an odd film. It had some good moments, but the shifts in tone just felt a bit off. I don't know if it was studio meddling or just poor realisation early on, but some of the typical tropes felt tacked on and it was never entirely cohesive. Part of the reason I wanted to watch it was because I'd heard so much about the various changes the script had gone through. Apparently, it began as a dark comedy sort of story, titled 'Tonight, He Comes'; in which the superhero shouldn't have sex, because his ejaculations cause women to literally explode. Â I'm not sure whether to blame the director or the specific actor but one of the 'twists' was just screaming at you in every lingering shot. Â I can't say I regret seeing it though, which is why I can't say it was crap.

Hot Heart
Nope, no Will Smith. http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/full-list-of-stuff-white-people-like/ Â I can't say I love Will Smith but I haven't really seen any films to really make me dislike him. Even in dramatic roles, he always seems to turn in a 'tolerable' performance. Â But, yeah, maybe I just haven't see enough to dislike him (same with Michael Cera). Not even stuff I've heard people say he's good in, like Ali.

P4: Gritty Reboot
Finally got around to seeing TRON: Legacy. I am tempted to put it in the "good" movie thread, but it's pretty borderline "meh," so I'll post here. The storyline was kinda convulted and heavy on exposition to make the whole thing work, and the pacing seemed kinda off. The first 20-30 minutes moved briskly along, then it lagged for a good hour, then the exciting ending kicked in. The visuals, however, were outstanding. CorgiShinobi
Due Date  I really like Robert Downey Jr., and Zach Galifianakis has his moments. This movie was a mixed bag of drama and comedy. It's not a dramedy, but the emotional back and forth of "I can tolerate this guy" to "I'm going to murder this guy" becomes old hat.  Overall, you're on a roller coaster of comedic quality. You'll laugh at something, but sit through a moment of strife, but again will be faced with something funny, but yet again there's a dry spot of dialogue.  I will say this, and I don't know how accurate this is, but this film has demonstrated how dogs can masturbate. I knew cats could, so I guess I should have figured. If you haven't seen the film, this might seem like a very awkward/disturbing comment. Hot Heart
How To Lose Friends And Alienate People was on TV. Â I like Simon Pegg, although I don't think I'd seen him in anything made without Edgar Wright, and Kirsten Dunst was very good. Â Story just felt a bit too cheesy, with some boring humour, and I would have liked to have seen some of the different elements explored a bit more. deanb
anyone seen priest? we're off to go see Thor tomorrow night, but they want to see Priest after. I'm seeign why they'd be into it, but not seeing much in it for myself.

CorgiShinobi
This is where I'll put my viewing of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Â A movie that was a little over two hours, and I have to say the first quarter bored me. It became interesting when the mermaids showed up. Think Jurassic Park's velociraptors, but hot and with boobs. Everything else, like the leaping and eating of man flesh, that's still the same. Â Jack Sparrow is like a Bugs Bunny character. If Barbossa weren't so cunning, I'd say he's Daffy Duck and when the two get together, it's entertaining at least. Everyone else just kinda follows along and tries to have a purpose. Â Oh, about the mermaids again. I think it's well-known now that the purpose of those characters is that they need one for the Fountain of Youth. Basically, there's a ritual and they need a mermaid tear. This is where [i think she is amazingly hot] Astrid Berges-Frisbey comes in to play. However, there's suppose to me "more." There's some missionary guy who has been really lucky surviving all the time, and he's still around because blah, blah, blah... Â TL;DR Missionary and mermaid strike up completely unrealistic impromptu romance that doesn't go anywhere and only ends... well, maybe once you see it you'll know what I mean. deanb
Yeah I saw. We didn't end up going. My housemate got a job at Cineworld a few months back, seems it's become one of those things of not mixing work n play since we didn't end up watching Thor either.
