I was home sick earlier this week, so I watched two films, one was OK, it was called.... Edge of Tomorrow. I don't really like Tom Cruise, and I can't recall the last time I watched one of this movies maybe the alien invasion one with Dakota Fanning, but this one was actually pretty decent. It was pretty much a Groundhog Day with mech suits and aliens.

Weird film to be sure but interesting enough.

Jurassic World

This hovers just above 'crap' purely because of the spectacle, a few good sequences and laughs (some unintentional) and Bryce Dallas Howard running.

It starts off sort of promising (even though some of the conversations run a little long) and then just gets kinda boring. There are some well-structured bits and tense moments here and there but it really doesn't offer much particularly new, and what it does is kinda dumb or underdeveloped. There's the meta stuff there, but it's mostly for gags.

I was also kinda hoping that Chris Pratt's character would turn out to be the kid who Alan scared the shit out of with the raptor claw in JP1. :P

Inside Out. I felt like it did not live up to the potential of the premise and was more obvious about the heartstrings-pulling Pixar is known for. The performances were all excellent, of course, and each of the comedians playing an emotion nail it perfectly. I also really liked any glimpse into characters' heads other than Riley. I did not like Joy and Sadness's journey through the outlands of Riley's memory because I feel like it really muddied the movie's conception of how emotions work; it feels like Riley's brain is only really connected to the control room and that everything else is just arbitrary goofiness for Joy and Sadness to traipse through. I also feel like the resolution of Joy and Sadness's journey is arbitrary and does not make sense in the context of how the movie presents the functioning of the brain and emotions. It definitely feels like the writers came up with the characters of the emotions and Riley's real-life journey before figuring out how the emotion characters' arcs would fit in with Riley's.

I just saw "Everyone is a Retard Except Chris Pratt."

Sorry, I mean Jurassic World. It was better than JP3 but man it had a hell of a lot of cliches, which made it super predictable. If they plan to keep making these Jurassic Park sequels they gotta figure out a way to make the dinosaurs a threat that doesn't require everyone to act like idiots with no survival instinct.

Ugh, JPW.

Can anyone explain why and how a multinational corporation thought the perfect candidate to train dinosaur monsters was a former Navy SEAL with no animal training background?

Seriously, guys: FUCK JPW. It's really dumb.

Edit: Oh, and I saw Dope this past weekend. It was an OK comedy with some messiness in the execution (including secondary characters that seemed mis-cast and way out of place in the movie), which is understandable because it was the director/writer's first movie.

Hi, devil's advocate here.

I took it as everyone, in the moment, is flabbergasted that the new and deadly dino has just escaped and no one was aware of it. The enclosure is reading there is no thermal signal of the big girl, and so we have our setup. To spoilers!

Also, I would blame the chubby security guard for letting her out. Can't blame him though because you have an obvious exit with an immediate threat. Just, we know as movie goers that's going to be a problem.

Yes, going down into the paddock without checking the GPS tag first was kind of reckless on Owen's part, but I'm willing to forgive him for this mistake because...

I admit that pretty much every death in the movie wouldn't have happened if Owen had taken that one extra level of precaution, but he didn't know anything about the I-rex when they brought him in other than that it was artificially made.  I'm even willing to forgive that fat security guard for opening the door because hell, it was the nearest exit.  What I can't forgive, however...

He knew it was a GM dino, and smart. In fact his entire job is doing intelligence tests with the Raptors. He should have known better. One would assume given prior events on the island there would be rather specific set of protocols n policies in place of "we can't locate the dino atm", like nearly everything in that park had locations trackers on.

First time he ever heard about it was when the gal came by to bring him to the enclosure. First time he saw it the dino itself was chasing him down. Hell, no one knows what the damn thing is made entirely of until the final quarter of the movie. And the I-Rex ripped its GPS tracker out. A big stretch I didn't like, but it makes the I-Rex a loose cannon that makes everyone in headquarters piss themselves. So really, the I-Rex is suppose to be this dino that's too smart (half luck tbh) for all their precautions.

EDIT: If anyone's to really blame, it would be the park administrator gal for not knowing what the I-Rex is made of before trying to get Chris Pratt's character to evaluate it. Really would have solved some major headaches throughout the movie.
