Dexter

so, just watched the newest episode (finale). thoughts:

-At first I was glad that Lumen survived. I was hoping that she would stay with Dexter but of course fuckin not (FUCK YOU WRITERS), and so now that its revealed she won't stay with him, I kinda wish they just killed her. Nothing lost!

-This to me means Quinn will be on dexter even more...he knows dexter lied for him. So he must figure that he killed Liddy.

-Why can't they keep a fuckin guest star? WHY

-the kids are staying with dexter over the summer but im betting we wont see any of that.

Other than that the episode gave me a lot of heart attacks and i was almost certain that deb would see him. i kinda wish she did, just to get it over with, cause i think an opportunity like this wont ever present itself again: a circumstance where she understands why he does what he does, and would be okay with it even though she'd feel very conflicted. But it's probably juicier for her to find out at some point in a bad context, eh? If she finds out at all, I mean.

Where do they go from here? They've done murderers, rapists, pedos...bad parents. What other kind of bad people 'deserve' to die?

so, what you guys think bout the finale/where the series is going/etc?

Finally caught up. Loved the finale. When Deb was at the camp I figured it would be just like always, they build up the tension only to reveal that Dexter has scurried off just in the nick of time like always. Oops! That shit was the bomb, yo. I was on pins and needles. I just read through the thread at the Old Country, I agree this season started off a bit slow, but everything after Julia Stiles came on was pretty awesome. She was great on the show, too. Same with Peter Weller.

Also, I guess IRL that Michael C. Hall and the chick who plays Deb (they are married IRL) are splitting up, and apparently she was spreading rumors about him during the production of this season. It'll be interesting to see if they keep her around. I guess now that he's cancer-free you can leave, bitch.

Except that this time Dexter came *this* close to being caught. Quinn has to pretty much know for sure that Dexter killed Liddy. And I have a feeling that Deb is going to find out something about Dexter in the near future.

This is exactly what I'm talking about though. He gets close... then gets free. Yawn.

I agree with Kanji. She may not be the best actor, nor is her character the most stable, but I like what Deb brings to the show and the dialogue that comes with it.

As a whole I throughly enjoyed season 5. It had a really, really long-ass build up, but it absolutely paid off. There was very little fat to this season. Nothing happened without a reason, not like previous seasons where there are retarded side-plots and unanswered murders. Like in seaons 4 when Dexter kills the photographer, but it's really the photog's assistant that he wanted. There was no resolve to that whatsoever. I feel like Chip Johannsen was given the reins of a tanking show (although season 4 was still great) and he had to make it work. In that regard, I think season 5 fit the bill perfectly. It gave Dexter closure with Rita. It allowed all the major characters to develop into more relatable personas. Plus it had it's fare share of awesome moments.

It may not have had the most thrills or surprises, but season 5 really never misstepped throughout its entire run, which is rare for a season of anything - let alone a Dexter season.

So now that it's just like any other show you think it's better? Besides the beginning of the season (the very first episode in fact) I felt like this was your typical premium TV show and nothing more. The end of the season only reinforced that. The reason that Dexter is so likable is because he is unlikable. He's a monster. That's what made it interesting. The same can be said for the other characters. Their faults make them interesting. Now that everyone is okay with everyone elses faults and everyone is all loving dovey... it's just too easy. Also, you can think of a kill like the photographer for every season but the first, really. Season 5 had the guy in the bathroom, for example.

Originality is not a quality worth giving kudos to a show for inasmuch as quality is. While I do not agree that Dexter has become like any other show on television, assuming it has, so what? I think evaluating based on how well it does what it does is more useful in a discussion.
