Just a few recent Apps I'm gonna recommend:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ant.wordfind.client - It's like boggle. Very much like boggle. I dislike that I'm sure some of the words don't exist, so you're rarely gonna get the maximum possibilities.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.imp.steamcompanion - It's the steam community on your phone. Supposedly Valve are making a proper iOS/Android version, but for now this is good enough. Yeah, not the steam store btw.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alphonso.pulse - Probably one of the best RSS apps on Android. I think it's on iOS too. It has a few default feeds, or you can plug in your google reader account. Alternative is the official Google Reader app.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.imdb.mobile - not a recent app, but damn is it useful from time to time. Like "who is that actor?"

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.yell.launcher2 - the yellow pages on your phone. (which I now notice that's the slogan). So yeah, it's the ronseal of apps. The map function leaves a bit to be desired though. Wish it offered to open the location in Google Maps/ Navigator.

And these two definitely aren't recent but I was talking with Oxtics the other day and turns out he had neither and pretty much jsut used his phone to text n call:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.metago.astro - half decent, though slightly bulky, file browser. Also has a bunch of built-in tools that are kinda handy like app back up n such. Linda Manager is an alternative with less bells n whistles.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android - I have no effing idea why these don't come as default to the phone.

I don't (because I can't) use this myself, but it's a cool little tool:

https://market.andro...b=Autodesk+Inc.

And at $1 a steal.

Desktop version:

http://www.amazon.co...chbook-Pro-2011

Very nifty and intuitive bit of software. The desktop version was made for like wacoms n the like so it ports over quite well to touchscreens.

Sketch Online - It's Pictionary online. What else is there to say? I can't stop playing it.

Chess.com - It's pretty similar to the site Gameknot, where you have several games going at a time (the amount depends on your subscription, I believe on both sites you get 5 simultaneous games with a free account), with set intervals between moves. There is no Gameknot app, so I picked this up and I must say I'm impressed with the interface and features. Their subscription fee is a bit hefty, but the most expensive one gives you access to their entire collection of chess videos and tutorials. I'm gonna wait a bit and see if Gamefly releases an app since I already pay them, but if not I may find myself making a switch in the future. For now I play this on the phone, and GK on the PC. Always up for new consistent people to play with if anyone on here uses either service.

we7 is pretty ace - you type in an artist you like and it builds a radio station based on them. The best bit though is if you use it over wifi it pre-caches songs so you can listen to them when you are out without using mobile data. Great for cheapskates like me on PAYG tariffs.

edit: if you copy the .we7 files out of the we7 folder and rename them to .mp3 then they are... free mp3s! they're 192kbps too, so not too shabby.

Stiger just got an android so I intro'd him to a few nice Apps.

One was Pulse. A really shiny RSS reader. I really recommend it, quite a pinnacle of apps in general.

Oh yeah it's multi-platform and has Google Reader support, so it can use those feeds. Doesn't interfere with Google Reader though which I found nice, so it doesn't count them as read if I load em up in Pulse so I can go back to them in full when I'm on a PC.

Stranded Without A Phone

(iPod/Phone, may be iPad version, which would no doubt be amazing.)

It's an isometric hex-based survival game set on a randomly generated tropical island. It has a day/night cycle, random wildlife (fish and boars), and a great system for improvising things from your environment. It's a really amazing game, the deepest I've played on my iPod Touch.

You play an elderly scientist who crash lands on an alien planet (I believe) and is the sole survivor of his station. You're on this small island, with nothing at all, and your only ultimate objective is to build a radio transceiver, with parts you have to wait to wash up on the shore and collect. If you don't maintain your Hydration, Hunger, Injury, and Health, you die. You have to maintain them to survive the days you'll be spending there- hyd and hung go down constantly, if they're at 0 your health starts to go down, injury only goes up if you're damaged, and your health goes down faster depending on how injured you are.

There's a simple inventory, a function to search the ground for naturally occurring objects, a great list-based combining system so you can make anything from an axe to lemonade to a water skin to a battery (lemons, copper, zinc, and wire FTW). The combining system is based on items that are in your inventory or on the ground at your feet or at the hex in front of you.

It only has two small flaws- it doesn't teach you how deep it is or how to play it properly (the interface is pretty complex and it doesn't point out the tutorial at all, plus you can only quit by pressing your iPhone's home button), and once you have collected loads of items from the environment, the game starts to have some item list refreshing issues (though this may only happen on my 2nd generation iPod Touch with the really rubbish 4.0 software update). This lead my guy to eating some rotten boar flesh as the list hadn't refreshed; it still said it was normal boar flesh.

Great game though, I've made it to about day 15 or so. That must be 3 or 4 hours in. It's still pretty challenging and I haven't seen all there is to get from it. Great, great stuff.

Stuff by HalfBrick. Fruit Ninja's alright, but I'm especially fond of Age of Zombies and Jetpack Joyride...

aaand... yeah. The rest depends. I have folders for "sensors," social networking/IM, news, information, reference, number crunching, site portals (mainly video apps like TED, RSA, Crunchyroll and NHK), stat tracking, education, and 10 folders for various categories of games.

5-0 Radio is a popular one when I show it to people. You can probably find a feed of your local police radio chatter so when you hear sirens you can find out why. Parcel is great for tracking packages. ZBar scans barcodes and glyphs like QRCodes, Decibel 10th tells you the sound level of your environment. SoundHound identifies songs it hears.

I downloaded The World Ends With You: Solo Remix. I already played the DS version so I knew I liked the game, but since the ipod only uses one screen the question on everyone's mind was "How do battles work?" Well, at least for Shiki (I haven't gotten to Beat or Joshua yet) instead of using the D-pad or buttons to input partner attacks, you tap on enemies to summon your partner and tap multiple times for combo attacks. Instead of matching up symbols to power up your team attack before you use it, you play a timed minigame to power up your team attack AFTER you have activated it and before it goes off.

I'll probably be crucified for saying this, but I prefer the iOS battle system. The DS version is still a great game and if that's your only means to play it then I would still recommend it, but the combat in the iOS version is a lot less cumbersome. Having to focus on two party members at the same time is impossible, and the best you can really do is either mash in random attack chains with your partner so you can focus on Neku or move Neku around semi-randomly so he won't get hit while you focus on your partner. Frankly, it felt like I was spinning plates the whole time, and if the rest of the game wasn't so great I wouldn't have bothered.

Also, the game's art has been given an HD makeover and it looks fantastic. Very smooth and colorful and I have yet to spot any jaggies.

That sounds way better to me. I'd be all over it if I hadn't made it so far into the original game. Now it sort of sits in limbo where any fight I go into results in my partner losing 125%-175% of their HP since I simply do not engage that crazy d-pad fight system.

Sometimes it seems like TWEWY was made to prove everything that was said about the DS, from the really cool stuff, right down to the concerns that turned out to be a non-issue for most games (like "I only have one set of eyes, so why would I want two screens? I can't focus one on each screen at once.")
