TheFlyingGerbil
I just get exponentially more jealous with each new photo. They are so adorable and look like they're getting on great together.
Waldorf and Statler
You also made the right choice about getting them at separate ages/not at the same time. A big mistake many dog owners do that they end up regretting is getting two dogs at the same time. It's nice in the sense of "oh they'll have company when I'm gone working" but they don't take into consideration that if they have somebody else besides you they'll grow to love one another and be the best of friends and they'll never love you as much. Not to mention if one puppy can do damage to the house, two puppies can do exponentially more damage.
TCP
So, this is fucking awful. On Sunday both pups seemed pretty sick, but it was very very hot out so we thought it might have just been the heat. On Monday it was equally hot, so we put them in the basement where it's way cooler and they slept all day but still didn't seem too OK. On Tuesday it cooled down so we took the pups into the vet, she said they probably got into something, which seemed unlikely for the younger one Booker, since he's 8 weeks old and we keep a very close eye on him. She did say it could have been parvo, but Parker has all of his shots and Booker has his first set, so we sort of dismissed it. She told us to give the dogs pepto bismal and keep them hydrated. Booker did well with the pepto, he was running around that evening, carrying around a stick and eating food, which had been a big concern since last time he ate was Sunday. Parker, meanwhile got worst as the night went on, so yesterday, Wednesday, we took Parker back in and they put him on an IV, and tested him for parvo, which came back positive. The vet said in her 12 years of being a veterinarian she has seen a two dogs with all their shots get parvo. We immediately got Booker tested and he has it too. I don't know how. There's never been animals in this house before we moved into it in March. They could have picked it up on a walk, maybe. I'm suspecting it came from the new puppies breeders, I texted her about it and she just said she hopes Booker is ok. When we took Booker in, he was doing a lot better and the doctor said this morning that we should be able to take him home "soon". Parker, meanwhile, is not doing as well, he's got a fever, low white cells, and a lack of energy. We've cleaned everything we can with bleach, washed all the clothing, the floors, their beds, bleached the backyard even. Now we wait. Booker's only 9 weeks old now and Parker's 8 months old, so if you guys can send some positive vibes/prayers/whatever your thing is, their way, we'd really appreciate it.

CorgiShinobi
I will send all of my positive energies and prayers your way. Currently I'm taking care of my dog with too much anxiety. It's not just fireworks, but currently she's at my sister's new home which is completely new territory for her. The folks traveled three days to get here, while I flew a plane since my work can only afford a maximum of seven days off. She does not like to travel, though it doesn't necessarily rough her up. Thing is, this was such a bad coupling of anxieties for her that it is my firm belief that this is the worst she has gone through. It also doesn't help that a couple my sister is friends with brought their dog over that has never been around both Sally (my dog) and brother-in-law's dog, Moses. Now Moses is a beast of a dog, so much so that he could probably eat an entire pony himself. He's a sweet dog though that would only attack if you were actually a threat. He could make a leap and a bound, stand up on his hind legs with his front two on your shoulders and bring you down no problem. Still, he's sweet and it didn't take long for Sally and him to be friends years ago. But this new dog was a punk, and I don't mean this in a biased way. Maybe it's because she was only a year old, but the bitch thought she was hot stuff. Sally takes to humans instantly and is given kindness in return. Well, some dogs become jealous and start growling and barking at such a dog. This is one of those times, and I swear the dog was on the verge of nipping her while chasing her out of the room. Years ago I've learned to be watchful like a hawk when it comes to new dogs, and so I was ready to grab the dog by the neck if it so touched Sally. So I've taken the steps to ensure Sally feels safe while fireworks go off only 40 ft from the home we find ourselves in. The nextdoor kids spent a couple hundred on fireworks because for the last few days they've had nothing else to do with their life. Someone has probably injured themselves, but fireworks have a kind of magical hold on keeping teens pleased even in the face of personal injury. TCP
Thanks guys... Parker left us probably just as I was typing that, got a call from the vet shortly after. Absolutely heartbreaking and brutal terrible day. Booker is still putting up a good fight though... fingers crossed.

Saturnine Tenshi
I'm sorry to hear that, Cowboy. There's not really anything that can be said to dull the loss of a friend. Best wishes, man.
Waldorf and Statler
I know this isn't the time to say it, but something should be able to be done via the breeder. None of these issues came up until Booker came. Having said that, I am terribly sorry for your loss. He's in doggie heaven right now, and he is at least no longer suffering. TCP
Hey guys, I just wanted to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the support. Both dogs are essentially Sarah and I's children, and while I knew I'd lose Parker eventually one day, I didn't think it'd be 6 months and a week after we brought him home. It hurts a lot, every time I look into the backyard and see it's empty, or watch another dog walk down the street and don't hear anyone bark at him, it's the worst fucking feeling. Yesterday was a nightmare, I don't even remember a lot of it, but today was somber, awful, and just miserable. Friends and family help of course, but knowing you guys care helped too, we got a really great community here, and it's something I think we should be proud of. Ok no more mushy stuff. In the good news, Booker was looking REALLY good this afternoon, so fingers crossed, he might be able to come home tomorrow assuming he doesn't have any setbacks. Not trying to get my hopes up, as setbacks are apparently common, but this is really good news, we definitely need him healthy and at home helping us heal. Hot Heart
Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that about Parker. I can't imagine how that feels. Here's hoping Booker makes a full recovery.
UnstableArk
Sorry you had to go through that, man. Losing a dog is really tough, especially when he was so young. I really hope Booker pulls through and lives on for his older brother. Hang in there, little guy. We're all rooting for you.
Popular Post TCP
World's biggest sigh of relief. Just got Booker home. Fingers crossed, of course, but it looks like he's going to be ok. I tried to be positive and hopeful but with the luck we had, I was sure I was going to lose both my boys.

TheFlyingGerbil
That's great news and I hope there is some small consolation in the fact that although you will miss Parker terribly, Booker still being so young should bounce right back to his original puppyish joy, which hopefully in turn will help you.
