TCP
Basically I went through my gaming collection and listed off names till Sarah found one she liked. Cole? No. Commander Shepherd? No. Drake? No. Luigi? No. THE LONE WANDERED?! No. Booker fit though. And it leaves the possibility open to one day getting a female dog named Lizzy. Though I don't think Sarah would go for that. TheMightyEthan
Oh my god now I want to get a sheep dog and name him Commander Shepard.
Waldorf and Statler
Funny you mention that. Once I graduate uni I've been planning on getting two dogs. First dog will be a Corgi I'll name Thorgi: Dog of Thunder. Second will be a German Shepherd I'll call Commander Shepherd.
Mal
I want a malamute so I can call him/her Mal. From what I understand, they do fine in warmer climates since while they are insulated, it works both ways so they don't get as hot as say, us humans. Shade and water and they'll be rocking. Every winter I can go up to see some snow since I think they freaking love the snow.
TCP
This is BULLSHIT. Maybe I'm just a little sensitive after what I've gone through this summer, but there's so many neglected dogs and cats out there, and this guy really seems to have given this raccoon a good home, hopefully he gets him back. There's a petition, if you're inclined. Anywho, here's a photo of my Booker wearing a bandana because, well, why not?
Mal
Props for the dude being able to handle a raccoon. They got hands man which gives them a whole different kind of power.

Popular Post TCP
We're still really broken up about Parker passing away, but in the past few weeks, Sarah and I decided we wanted to adopt another dog, not a new puppy but a dog who's fully vaccinated (so we wouldn't have anything to worry about) but isn't too old. We applied to basset hound rescues, there were none here in BC (Canada's California) but we found a few next door in Alberta (Canada's Texas). However, on Tuesday, I looked up on Kijiji (Canada's Craigslist) for available basset's in my area and one popped up that looked a lot like Booker but almost completely white, except for the ears and a few patches on his body. I recognized this puppy immediately as when we first were looking at getting Booker we originally wanted the white puppy from his litter but that puppy was already spoken for, but a basset that is this white is pretty rare and in an area the size of this (we bought him from a near by town but there's not too many breeders in this region) chances are he was Booker's brother. So we called the owner and brought Booker over to visit and you could tell they instantly recognized each other. The owners are a really nice couple but they're moving to Mexico and aren't comfortable taking the dog there, for some reason. So, long story short, as of last night Hank moved in with us. They haven't stopped wrestling since. It's pretty cute! Edited August 31, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
Mal
When they met. Now I'm imagining some La-li-lu-le-lo conspiracy going on with your dogs.
Hot Heart
We lost our really old cat. He was 18/19, and you could tell he was on the way out because he'd become very fragile, stopped cleaning himself then couldn't always keep food down, and he had those tumours that old cats get. He died naturally at least. I'm not overbearingly upset like I was with some of our other cats, partly because my mum's not even in the country at the moment (and she'd probably set everyone off), but also because he'd had a good, long life. Plus, he was a really irritating cat for the most part. Anyway, this was him looking classy at Christmas. (Damn, look at that clean, white fur)

Mal
So, how stealthy are cats? My roommates' cat is now living with us but on my watch, he disappeared and honestly, I'm kind of freaked out. How can a cat disappear from a closed off house? The only way he could have gotten out was that he was smart enough to open a sliding screen door and close it on his way out... This is on top of him somehow phasing into the garage last night. TheFlyingGerbil
I'm sure they could open a door, but not close it. It's more likely it's hiding somewhere in the house or slipped out of the door unnoticed when a human opened it. Both of those are very possible. Mal
Well, I was playing Shadow of Mordor when I last noticed him in my room. I'm still very confused. At least he is chipped...
TheFlyingGerbil
this isn't exactly comforting but it is quite common for a cat to disappear for days at a time and then just wander back like nothing's happened. It can be because they've gone hunting, found somewhere cosy to get out of the rain and used it as a base for a bit or a neighbour that feeds and looks after them too: lots of cats live with two families without either of them knowing it's a two-timing heartless bastard. TheMightyEthan
It's probably just trapped in a closet or cabinet.
Mal
I took a nap and lo and behold, he woke me up by nipping on my toe. Seriously, where the hell was he? I looked in all the closets he could have been in. At least he's not a velociraptor.
Mal
Any tips on how to deal with a really smelly dog? For the past six months, my roommates and I have been dog sitting for one of our professors for a cumulative time of about a month. One thing we've noted is just how smelly she is. I think we have pinned it to her constant licking of herself and to her breath. So I hypothesize that I can really hammer down on her smell if I wash her really well, lotion her up (she seems to have dry skin?) and somehow upset her really smelly mouth ecosystem enough to replace it with a less smelly one. Sweet Tea got to live up to her name! She mustn't be Smelly Tea!
danielpholt
Are you certain you guys aren't just getting used to having a dog around? I had 2 dogs for about 13 years growing up, never smelt them. Now whenever I go around a friends house who has a dog the smell hits me immediately. Back to me. We just got a hamster (rental - didn't wanna push too hard for anything bigger than that just yet). Things are going okay; I think I killed it.... I was adjusting the wheel this morning...It came away a little easier than I was expecting and I made rather a large amount of noise; not seen the Hamster since. We've heard moving but until I see her walking around I'm working on the assumption that the shock might have done her in. I'll keep you informed. TheFlyingGerbil
Hamsters are nocturnal, it takes quite a lot of time and training to get them to be more active in the day, some just won't do it ever, don't know how yours normally behaves but if you gave it a shock, it may just be reverting to its more natural behaviour and hiding until tonight when it will feel safer.
Mal
Seems like I might be getting a puppy. If I got through with it, I'm guessing the initial costs are: 1) Spay/neuter 2) Vaccinations 3) Microchip 4) License (seriously?) 5) Food 6) Kennel/crate 7) Other stuff that I'm forgetting Pet owners, help me out?
TheFlyingGerbil
8) collar for a name tag with contact details in case it gets lost. 9) harness and lead for walking. 10) electricity and data costs for all the photos you're going to post on here.
TCP
Where I live, dog licenses are a municipal thing, I've never had one for any of our dogs and I don't know anyone who has, you might want to ask around with some other dog owners if they do it. One thing to look at it is medical insurance. It's not the expensive and it could cover you if they ever need surgery or something like that. As for food, do some research into what type of food available in your area is best. Some of the popular brands of food are really unhealthy for dogs. One of our guys has allergies to chicken and grains, which really limited the types of food we could buy him, but the wife discovered that Costco dog food (which makes some chicken and grain free food) was much better than some of the alternatives.
