Hot Heart
EDIT: How is that misleading, Hot Heart? Other than the fact that the gameplay is more conducive to HRRGRRRAGEFUCK, the game's entire narrative, art direction, and so forth is all designed with tearjerking war drama in mind. The game never really gets that across. It's lots of blood and guts and the emotional side of things barely enters into it, even if it is visually similar (minus the all-important squadmates). I'm not saying it's a bad game, but a trailer more in tone with the game would've used explosions, people being chainsawed and Cole yelling 'DAYUMN!' MasterDex
So I walk into HMV today with the aims of buying a game. I had Human Revolution in mind but that wasn't there and I was left with the choice between Dead Island and Space Marine... I wish I had read this thread first. It doesn't seem to be an awful game but it's just not a PC game. I don't like how it feels, perhaps in part because I got a reminder just recently with the great controls of Hard Reset. Why is it so hard for developers to do decent kb+m controls?
BrainHurtBoy...2
Wait, which did you buy? I think Space Marine controls pretty damn well with the kb/m. Better than a controller, in fact. If you're talking about Dead Island, I don't know.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Huh? Controlling that melee with a keyboard seems like it would suck.

Hot Heart
Yeah, but equally, he could've meant 'I should've read all the good things people were saying about this game' ...if you've actually kept up to date with the thread though, yeah, it might become obvious. deanb
if he posted here it'd be even more obvious: http://forum.pressxordie.com/index.php?showtopic=172&pid=62378&st=680entry62378
MasterDex
Haha! Woops! Yeah, I got Dead Island. My gut told me I should go for Space Marine but the 4 player co-op of Dead Island teased me enough to make me pick it up instead. Something tells me I'd love Space Marine - Relic and W40K?! Ah well, I made my choice and have to live with it. On that note, I stumbled across this program in my quest to raise FoV and disable blur and so on. NB: The program runs a keyboard hook that acts as a keylogger. This isn't anything suspicious but is needed to solve a problem with the game. It may be something that could bring about a VAC ban but will only run if you have the option checked and the program running in the background. Luftwaffles
Haha! Woops! Yeah, I got Dead Horde. You mean Dead Island?

Luftwaffles
But... Dead Horde. EDIT: Ninja edited I see. Edited September 15, 2011 by Sporkwaffles
MasterDex
But... Dead Horde. EDIT: Ninja edited I see. B) I think Dead Island is growing on me. Yes, there's a long list of things I'd like fixed and changed but the underlying game is quite fun to play, more so, I imagine, with friends. So who has this on Steam and what level are you at? The thing that made me purchase Dead Island over Space Marine was the 4 player co-op (which is coming to Space Marine) so I'm really hoping to take advantage of that. Pirandello
I have it on Steam! I'm QWOP-GIRP, if you've not added me yet, though from what I can see on my Friends list, I've already added you. I've also beaten the game already so I'm available with some pretty decent equipment from the get-go.

How does it work when you're joining people that are a higher/lower level than you? I've noticed the zombies level up along with you so does it find the average between the players or just go for the higher/lower level? I've noticed the zombies level up along with you so does it find the average between the players or just go for the higher/lower level? Well, the game's levels automatically follow whoever is the host. So if you're low-leveled and the host, and I'm high-leveled and I join, the game will still continue as normal revolving around your level. It's just that you get some extra firepower with higher-leveled players. Unfortunately, it is still quite possible to die, if you're not careful. As for joining, usually I just sit around on the Game Lobby screen and wait until friends' games show up.
Enervation
Yea, just to remember. There is no armor in this game. Everyone takes the same amount of damage to your health (the only thing that really changed is how much damage you can take). I actually died quite often as a level 37 while helping out a level 15 with his campaign.
Vargras
So, I did get Dead Island. My only issue is my resolution is locked at 1360x768 - I normally play at 1920x1080. No matter how many times I edit Video.scr or update my drivers, I simply cannot move the resolution beyond 1360x768. WHAT DO?
SomTervo
I got this game. Played it for about 2 hours. Two days later I traded it in for Gears 3. (First time I've traded a game for yeaaars). Have not regretted that decision.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Yeah, I've traded my copy and it's in the mail as we speak. Hopefully the transaction goes smoothly and I'll get half of the money I paid for the game back.
Vargras
Unfortunately for me (and my GF), we both got our copies through Steam, so we can't return them. And trust me, we would if we could - the entire reason we both got it was so we could play together, and we can't even do that because the game crashes on her five minutes after we start co-op. That's one way to waste 100 bucks.
Mister Jack
I got the steam version as a gift and for the most part it works okay but on a couple of occasions I got a blue screen of death while playing it. Has this happened to anyone else? No other game has done this to me recently.
Enervation
Hasn't happened to me when I played it, but considering how horribly optimized this game is I wouldn't be surprised if it gave other that. My computer is barely able to run it.
Mister Jack
This is why I've started to gravitate back to consoles. So many PC games lately are just so badly optimized. Even Skyrim is guilty.
