Diablo III

Wow, Blizzard's finally returning to consoles?

I guess it makes sense with how much money that game is going to pull in, and Activision having Blizzard under its umbrella, and there for thinking of the extra $$$ a console release would bring.

oh, a job posting?

that's old news, dean. They've had a job posting up for console developers for quite a while, and have stated they are open to exploring Diablo III on consoles, but have made no commitments.

If it does go to consoles, it'd be some time after the PC release (I would hope), much like Torchlight coming to XBLA.

Either way, I'm not holding my breath on seeing it on my PC this year, next year would be a much safer bet.

err. It went up today. At least I'd imagine "02.17.2011" is today.

They dumped up a bunch, few for Battle-net software engineers, WoW designer, SCII level designer, handful for the new MMO, and then this one for Senior Producer and one for Senior Designer on console Diablo III.

I think everyone knows this is coming to consoles, Blizzard just won't come out and say it for whatever reason. I'm guessing it's because they tend to cancel projects that they aren't 100% satisfied with (like SC: Ghost or WarCraft Adventures; which both look like they would have been great), and they're probably not comfortable with their ability to develop for consoles. I'm sure it'll turn out fine though.

I'm just dying to get into the beta for this one. My friends and I had so many D2 lans last summer. Is there a date for the beta yet?

I was looking for this thread in the multi-platform folder. I was of the impression that Diablo III was going to be multiplat already, but I might have just lumped it in with Dungeon Siege III, which is definitely confirmed for PC/PS3/360. I know there's at least one or two more other Diablo/DS type games either recently released or definitely announced for consoles, and something with good online co-op would be a welcome addition to my gaming library. :)

Taken from the following article at Game Informer.

Blizzard says that you could be playing Diablo III sooner than you might have thought.

In today's quarterly earnings call by Activision, Blizzard chief Mike Morhaime had this to say: "We began internal company-wide testing last week. The game looks great, and we're currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing." For those not in the know, that would put the beta somewhere between July and September.

That might put the game on track for release late this year, but don't start holding Blizzard to any promises. "The development team is working hard to try and launch Diablo III this year, but I want to be clear that we do not have an official release date or window yet," Morhaime said. "As always, we will not compromise the quality of the game in order to hit a window."

EDIT: To whichever one of the mods moved my post, thanks. Didn't see this topic.

The reaction will be a tad curious on this one since most folks tend to give Blizzard a fair bit more leeway than they do Capcom.

Their reasoning is pretty shady. Essentially it's a case of battle.net needs to be online to work, so that means the game needs to be too.

Anyway one of the worse lines to utter:

"I want to play Diablo 3 on my laptop in a plane, but, well, there are other games to play for times like that."

....Like Torchlight 2. Which for all my greivances on their shitty development on the first game, doesn't require always on connection.

It also sounds like part of the reasoning for the always-on connection is because now your characters are stored server side. Which seems really iffy. I like the idea of cloud saves and all, but normally that includes a local save on my side too.

Also there's rumours that Auction items can be bought with "Real Money" (That's what they call it, with the quotation marks and capitals too). Which seems a bit like Mann Co without the community made items.

You're supposed to reveal more features as you promote your game, not gradually let people know what will no longer be in it. :P

But it's Diablo! From Blizzard! Meaning it's the most perfect thing imaginable in our Crapsack world. Of course if there's an announcement, it's gonna be about less stuff, because we all know it'll have everything else! (Plus, for any Blizzard game, it's easier to list what it doesn't do as opposed to what it does!)

Now if only they'd release the Lost Vikings.

"No longer"

I take offense to that. They never said that these features were included to begin with.

because it's the same sort of shit that's been pulled with MW2 and SC2.

And what's so bad about SC2 again? No LAN sucks but it's not a deal breaker by a long shot.

Firstly, it was a joke. It was a 'one size fits all' generalisation for games.

Secondly, you might expect certain features from a sequel or brand regardless of what has been said. I have no clue about Diablo but it sounds like SCII's lack of LAN disappointed in the same way.

Depending on how adverse the changes are, I may or may not pick this game up.

The gameplay style of the Monk has piqued me very much, and I've always preferred hand-to-hand combat classes above all else in RPGs (where applicable, as not many RPGs like to use fists as primary weapons for a class).

Soooo. Items in the auction house are bought and sold for real-life money, with Blizzard taking a cut of the earnings. Items will be level locked apparently. There will be a seperate auction house using in game gold as well. Don't know how to feel all about this. I suppose its a way to combat people selling gear and shit over the net via ebay and other methods. Still, it just reeks of "how can we wring as much money as possible out of our product with the most minimum effort"
