Connorrrr
Heh, it did take fifteen hours, and of course, there's all the other difficulty levels to tackle which promises better loot. I'll be playing this game for some time yet

I'll be playing this game for some time yet Man, I must be the slowest player on the damn planet. I'm a little over 12 hours in and I've only just beaten the boss of Act II last night. Am I the only one who actually explores every corners of every maps and dungeons?
Johnny
Demon Hunter is a lot about kiting and resource management. I wouldn't call it an easy class to play (to me, Barbarian and Wizard are both pretty easy), but it's rewarding once you figure it out. Wizard starts out easy but after a few acts you really have to choose between not doing any damage, and being a glass cannon. If you don't learn how to avoid damage, you're gonna die. A lot. Vargras
So yeah - Diablo 3 doesn't have a cow level. It has Whimsyshire instead. How to unlock it: --Black Mushroom - located in a patch of mushrooms in level 1 of the Cathedral (Act 1)--Shinbone - found occasionally in the fireplace (walk right when you enter) of Leoric's Manor (Act 1) --Wirt's Bell - can be purchased from a vendor in Act 2 for 100,000 gold --Liquid Rainbow - can be found in a Mysterious Cave (random dungeon) in Dahlgur Oasis during Act 2 after you saved an NPC --Gibbering Gemstone - random drop from Chiltara in the Caverns of Frost (NOT ice caverns) on the quest where you destroy the ballistae (Act 3) --Plans for the Staff of Herding - random drop from Izual (Act 4) Then you just need to get the recipe drop, pay your blacksmith 60k gold and craft it! (Normal mode) To enable it on higher difficulties you need to find the recepie on that level and pay the blacksmith again (200k for nightmare, 500k for hell, 1 million for INFERNO) Then find a dead cow in the western parts of old tristram road and you get magical pink rainbow farting unicorns and teddybears,
Mister Jack
Well I've played the game for several hours over the course of a few days, so here are some thoughts from the perspective of someone who never played the old Diablos. I like Diablo III. Obviously since I never played Diablo II that means I have no rose-tinted glasses on. If I'm supposedly missing out on something because of what Blizzard did with the mechanics of the third game, I can't really say I notice. I don't care all that much about distributing attribute points, and while the lack of skill trees is a bit odd the rune system works well enough for what it is. I haven't really played many other games in this genre before because it never really interested me. I tried the first Torchlight a while back and quickly got bored with it, though the lack of multiplayer in that game probably had a lot to do with it. I imagine that if I was playing Diablo III by myself instead of with friends it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. Combat in dungeon crawlers is about as simple as it gets, and when I'm not playing socially I quickly become very aware of just how repetitive it is. HOWEVER, that's still no reason to have always-online DRM. Just because I prefer to play with friends doesn't mean I'd NEVER want to play it by myself if I were to lose my internet connection for an extended period of time for whatever reason. I really don't care what Blizzard's excuse is, because it's inexcusable. Even if my connection never goes out, that still won't do me a damn bit of good when the servers get flooded with players as they inevitably did on launch day. Shipping this game with no offline single-player option of any kind was stupid at best and insulting at worst. Moving on, the music (so far) is totally forgettable, but that's not really such a big deal to me. Games like this are rarely known for their soundtracks. The writing is absolutely atrocious, but I can still enjoy it in that schlocky B-movie kind of way so that doesn't really bother me either. The graphics are okay. They're not great, they're not terrible. The whole game is spent zoomed out in an isometric view anyway so fuck it. I don't play this for the music or story or graphics. I play it for the gameplay, and when it comes together just right it's a lot of fun. I guess I just don't see what all these Blizzard fanboys are whining about. Except the DRM, of course. That part IS bullshit.
Connorrrr
That seems like a fair opinion. The always online stuff admittedly isn't ideal but it does offer a lot of perks too... I do fear the day I might lose my internet connection or something but I do like being able to quick join my friends whenever. I do like being able to have the same characters in single player that I have in multiplayer. As for actual server issues, I really can't see that happening again except for maybe any launches of expansion packs that might happen... It had its zerg rush (heh) of players during launch and that's it.

It had its zerg rush (heh) of players during launch and that's it. Yeah, for the most part (aside from launches), Blizzard servers are usually extremely stable. They had prepared for a lot of folks attempting to play, but as they said in their apology letter to everyone who bought Diablo 3, they didn't prepare enough. And while part of me understands why it's always online (to prevent hacking and modded weapons, which would massively screw with the real money auction house), I do find it a little silly that there isn't at least an option to play offline. Mister Jack
I don't see any reason why there couldn't have been an offline mode where all the items you find are limited to said mode. If offline and online mode were both mutually exclusive, I would have accepted that.

Mister Jack
Let me rephrase it then. You could play either a "connected" or a "non-connected" character.

toxicitizen
There's been lots of reports about account getting hacked the past week. Seems the common trend is people hacked didn't have an authenticator. Edited May 22, 2012 by FLD

Enervation
So I finished the starter edition as a Barbarian. I have to say, Diablo 3 plays way more differently than most other dungeon crawlers I've tried, like Titan Quest and the like. I guess it's mostly because it's streamlined, but I really enjoyed it. I might pick it up at a later date.
