deanb
Same with Alex Heat's surprise about ME3 stuff: It's gotten reannounced for PS3/4 so the issues with the game will be reannounced too. So yeah people had shut up about it, until Blizzard didn't.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, we had moved on, and then Blizzard brought it back up so we called them on their bullshit. *Edit* - Notice the thread was inactive for 6 months until the PS4 announce. Why should they care if I want to dupe items in my singleplayer game? It's just like banning SC2 players for cheating while playing singleplayer: who the fuck cares? It's not like they're impacting anyone else's experience. Edited February 27, 2013 by TheMightyEthan
Mr. GOH!
They are violating the terms of their license and terms of service agreements, Ethan. WORDS HAVE MEANING! And if not, so what? The same agreements give the publisher the right to unilaterally ban you for whatever reason it wants, so the publishers are just exercising their rights. If you criticize them, you are most likely some sort of communist. Edited to fix horrendous grammar. toxicitizen
If all it takes for you to get this worked up is a single mention of the game then you didn't do a very good job of moving on. I don't know, I guess I just don't get how people can get this pissy about a single game, especially after this long. I still think the ending of ME3 was bad but I don't feel the need to complain about it anymore. I mean, shit, let it go. You didn't like it, shit happens. Play something else and forget about this one.
Mr. GOH!
I'm dealing with deep emotional scars, FLD! I'm still paying $250 a week for therapy and $300 for scotch help me try to get over Blizzard screwing me so badly! The asshole liars! *throws a desk lamp at the wall* FUCK THEM! toxicitizen
Damnit, I almost laughed out loud in the middle of class.
TheMightyEthan
I'm actually not very worked up about it at all, at least no more than you seem to be worked up about defending them. My link post would have been everything I had to say on the subject were it not for the response, and I honestly keep forgetting about it until I see the thread back on the new content page. toxicitizen
I'm not really trying to defend them. I just honestly don't see what the big deal is. I understand why the always-on is there and it makes sense to me without needing to find some ulterior motive on Blizzard's part. That's been my stance on the subject since launch. While I'll grant that the game's situation is clearly not ideal, it's really not the end of the world, imho.
deanb
I don't think Ethan is portraying it as end of the world, just being a bit tongue in cheek that despite Blizzards original stance on Diablo 3 needing to be always on-line n hearing nothing else on the matter, here is Diablo 3 not being always on-line.
toxicitizen
Yeah, I was speaking more generally there. Not about Ethan specifically.
toxicitizen
So, I don't expect anyone here still gives a crap about this game? Haven't touched it in like a year but I'm really looking forward to getting this. I had actually been meaning to do a new run/character over the summer but never got around to it. Luftwaffles
I'll probably buy it too. I went back to D3 recently and enjoyed what I played of it, so this seems like a no-brainer to get myself back into the game.
toxicitizen
Definitely. They've already added a lot of content through patches, too. Especially to the endgame with Paragon levels, Monster level setting and like rare items you collect to gain access to uberbosses or something. Pretty cool stuff. toxicitizen
A few more details: New Crusader class (basically the Paladin) Act V Level cap incrase to 70, with new skills and runes Loot runs: completely randomized short dungeons something called Nephalem Trials additions to the Paragon System new loot system Transmogrification brings back the Mystic so you can modify gear attributes I'm sure most people will still find ways to hate it but honestly, this all sounds fantastic to me. deanb
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/10974978/diablo®-iii-auction-house-update-9-17-2013 Auction House to be closed next year.
TheMightyEthan
But it has to be always online because the auction house is integral to the core design of the game and there's no way anyone could get anything approaching the full experience without it. toxicitizen
Careful there, you could cut yourself with such razor-sharp wit...
TheMightyEthan
Diablo 3 keeping the online requirement. “We do not have plans to implement an offline mode. While the always-online requirement made the auction house possible, the auction house was never the driving factor in our decision to make the PC version of Diablo III require an Internet connection. The game was built from the ground up to take full advantage of Battle.net, which provides a number of important benefits, including persistent server-side character saves, a seamless PC multiplayer experience, cheat prevention, and Real ID and BattleTag social features.”
Faiblesse Des Sens
Haha they don't even mention not processing stuff on your computer as a reason anymore?
deanb
PRetty sure that was SimCitys reason for being online.
Faiblesse Des Sens
PRetty sure that was SimCitys reason for being online. Aren't loot drops or some shit done on the server even if you're playing by yourself?
TheMightyEthan
Yes, to preserve the integrity of the RMAH.
NeoStarr
They're removing the RMAH. I'm actually really pissed about that. I made a bunch of money off it and I loved the game because of it. I dunno how long I can actually grind loot without the incentive. I know I'm in the minority here.
TheMightyEthan
I know they are, that's my point: they're removing the thing that they said was the consumer friendly justification for the requirement, but standing their ground about the requirement itself. staySICK
I dropped off this game because of frustrations with the loot system and the apparent reliance on the AH to gear yourself properly (I never could find anything at or heaven forbid, above, my level, always 4 or more levels lower) leading into CONSTANT DEATH for my Monk in the later difficulties. With Patch 2.0whatever, Loot 2.0, and the promotion of 50% bonus xp I decided to give it another go. I'm glad I did. The former difficulties are gone, giving a more traditional Normal, Hard, Expert, Torment tiered system that you can change on the fly (in private games) and have level requirements (at least on Torment, which requires level 60). Each step above Normal come with XP boosts and other benefits. I started out on Expert with my level 55, and ended up lowering all the the way to Normal to get my bearings and some decent loot. Oh yes, the loot. Loot 2.0 is a HUGE upgrade, makes a world of difference. They aren't just throwing things out there for you, but you do find better and higher level gear much easier than before. I'm guessing its much more like the console version, since the Auction Houses don't exist on consoles, and reviews stated that the loot system was much better. While I still wish they'd get rid of the Always Online requirement (I haven't read if Loot 2.0 still manages loot drops server side, but I'm guessing so), I must say this is a huge improvement, almost makes Diablo 3 a whole new experience, certainly fixes a lot of the issues I had with the game. Now I'll have to get Reaper of Souls, and probably rethink purchasing the PS4's Ultimate Evil Edition.
