25th Anniversary of Zelda

P4: Gritty Reboot

Recommended Posts

Kotaku's got a post up about the 25th anniversary of the first Zelda game (and hence, the Zelda series) today.

Though my overall favorite is probably Twilight Princess, I remember in the fifth grade my schoolmate was telling me all about this game called Ocarina of Time - he hyped it up pretty big, telling me how huge the game world was. Other than that I really had no idea what to expect, so needless to say, it blew me away at every turn for the next month or so.

What was your first experience or a good memory you had with the series? Figured this was a good time to reminisce.

My first Zelda game was Ocarina of Time. I was 11 years old, and since being 11 years old in 1998, meant I'd rent the game every Friday night and play it for the weekend. That also meant that each time I got it, I'd hope no one else had rented the game since me and deleted my save file. Someone always did. So, I played those first few dungeons a lot. I did get if for Christmas though, and I played that cartridge more than any other game I've ever owned. I beat it once a year for probably 5 years after I got it. I'd play it and just explore Hyrule.
