Lemmiwinks
UGH. Fuck it. Just FUCK IT. I give up trying to get this god damn thing to work. I'll have to find some other way. Fucking FAT32. I have to ask, since I had a problem when first trying to swap mine out, did you try using each of the USB slots to attach your external? I ask because I found that 2 of my 4 slots do not maintain a good enough connection for the process to go smoothly. It wouldn't even recognize it in one slot. For the record the slots do work, as one always has my keyboard and the other always has my bluetooth headset plugged into it. Good luck if you keep trying! Mister Jack
Which slot did you use.
Lemmiwinks
Which slot did you use. I ended up using the third slot, as seen when unit is laying down horizontally. First and fourth didn't maintain the connection. When using the fourth connection it would read the external HDD and just get going before throwing up an error. CorgiShinobi
I think I used either the first or second slot. I didn't think it would matter what USB port I used, and again, I didn't run into any problems.
Mister Jack
I dunno, I tried everything I could think of and the fucking thing wouldn't work with the ps3. Now I have a hard drive sitting here and I don't know what to do with it because I can't transfer my data like I thought I would be able to do. CorgiShinobi
You're using the Backup Utility, correct? Or, what I'm getting from the previous post, when you plug in the external drive, it doesn't show on the XMB.
Mister Jack
I use backup utility and it says connect the device or whatever, and when I plug it in nothing happens.
Faiblesse Des Sens
What happens when you connect it without using the backup utility? does it show up in your video/music/photo lists?
Mister Jack
Nope.
CorgiShinobi
Does this external hard drive need an A/C adapter? Not to question you, but is it one of those?
Mister Jack
My friend said it wasn't.
CorgiShinobi
I know for the large external hard drives (1 TB, etc) that they need a power source. Otherwise, the smaller ones just need a USB port. Know anyone else with an external HDD? I can't say I'm aware of the brand you've mentioned. Mister Jack
I do not. ...I don't have many friends.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Well is there a plugin spot in the back of the external it where you don't know what it's for?
deanb
Not always just that. I have a portable drive where the HDD has a mini-USB on it, but the cable splits off to 2 USB plugs with the second dummy plug used for additional power. Mister Jack
You're supposed to use both?
Sindo
If it has two, then yes. It's to power the device.
deanb
You're supposed to use both? What did you assume the 2nd cable was for?
Mister Jack
Beats me man. It worked just fine with one cable when hooked to a PC.
Thursday Next
You're supposed to use both? Hehehe... priceless.
deanb
Beats me man. It worked just fine with one cable when hooked to a PC. Some PC's can pump out enough juice. When I use my drive on my main PC, runs okay, PS3 needs both cables. (though putting in both cables on PC does improve things too. More power to get spinning)
