Mr. GOH!
I don't like the new feral ghouls' look as much, either, but they look less like zombies and more like melty radioactive mutants, so I understand the changes. I like all the other art changes.
deanb
Reddit user put together a quick guide to Supply Lines for your settlements. Could be useful for a few of you: http://imgur.com/a/EfPub edit: So a query since I've just remembered it's something silly I did and I'm not sure if it was required or optional but in Danses first quest at Arcjet While you're activating the generator or whatever, and he's fighting off hordes of synths did you guys activate the engine? Cos I did and was almost sure I had killed him :/ Defo killed all the Synths. He was glowing for a fair while
Baconrath
Instead of crashing to the desktop and taking the Steam bootstrapper with it now it randomly restarts my computer completely. I don't know if its my hardware or a Bethesda-class memory leak or something else. What puzzles me is why it stopped doing the Steam bootstrapper genocide and began the restart shit. My guess is it coincides with the construction of my Tower of Power™. There might be too many objects to keep track of and thats why it kicks it into error-overflow-does-not-fempute mode. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
deanb
Man I should avoid reading some terminals. So I'm clearing out a bunch of raiders when I'm reading the terminals, after killing most, and finding logs of other raiders basically kidnapping folks and torturing them until they'll join up with the Raiders. I was a bit bummed that the logs had named people they'd tortured until broken, but all the raiders killed were regular names.
deanb
So some random tips I figure would be worth sharing since I've spoken with a few folks who haven't been aware of these since this game is terrible at explaining its fringe mechanics: Mods If you have say a Legendary Wounding Short rifle, which has a cool effect but overall is less dam/acc/rof than your main Heat Seeking Agitated Powerful Rifle, and you can't build the parts that one has cos you're a low level gun nut, what you can do is change out all the Mods on your non-effect weapon to "Standard" (or equivalent) and apply to your Legendary weapon, so now you have a weapon just as powerful, with the advantage of the 25 Bleed (or whatever weapon has). I learned this one a bit too late and only past few days had pretty decent weapons (I've a shotgun with poison, which is nice, and an anti-mutant laser. It's a bit weaker than most other guns, but against super mutants it chews through them). Also Mods get stored in your inventory and are 0.5lb each. If you store them in your Workshop they'll be used instead of building new mods if you have them. (Though I don't think they are carried over on Supply Lines so make sure all your mods are stored in your main base). Also if you store them in the workshop they don't take up a ton of space until you realise why you're so heavy. Supply Lines It's a thing you get from the Leadership Perk, I'll just link to an imgur link that walks you through it but basically it allows your Workshops to share the same resources when building. So as long as you can get enough starting material to power up a settlement radio tower thing you'll get in two folks and can set one of them up as Supply Line guy and can build the rest of settlement up proper. The items do not appear in the Workshop Inventory though. And I'm unsure if food gets transferred, I think at least plants do. http://imgur.com/a/EfPub Excess If you have a big ass water pump you'll make more water than your people need, so they store it in your Workshop. Same with excess food, and also you get a steady caps income from any Trading Posts you build too. Check your Workshop from time to time to withdraw some of these goodies. Though if you plan right your excess Purified Water and crops can be used to make Vegetable Starch which is worth 4 Adhesive. On the food and water front always make sure you have a higher Defence value than your do Food+Water and this'll discourage raiders/supermutants/deathclaws etc. Grinding Because this game has 256 levels (or whatever it is) there's several quest lines from each faction designed to generate an infinite amount of XP/caps. I would avoid bothering too much with these early on as they just grind. However be aware the Minutemen stuff for your settlements do have a time limit of sorts on so if somewhere is being attacked make sure to not ignore it or you'll get a Quest failed, and find some of the things you've build have been destroyed (mainly defence/power/water related things than actual buildings). If you want a quick XP boost, always sleep before doing any building work/modding/cooking to get a slight boost to your XP (there's even a meal you can make which gives a 2% boost on top). Only need to sleep for an hour in this one to get the "Well Rested" perk, which I'm not sure if that's a bug or not.
Mr. GOH!
Holy shit I guess the NW part of the map is supposed be for high level characters only. In Normal I could cheese my way through, but it's completely destroying me at level 21 in Very Hard.
Mister Jack
Holy shit I guess the NW part of the map is supposed be for high level characters only. In Normal I could cheese my way through, but it's completely destroying me at level 21 in Very Hard.Is that a typo? You START in the NW part of the map. Only need to sleep for an hour in this one to get the "Well Rested" perk, which I'm not sure if that's a bug or not. The Well Rested perk is now related to sleeping in beds that you own, whether it's a settlement or a house that you claimed. It might work anywhere if you sleep the full 8+ hours, but I never bothered.

Mister Jack
I think I'm going to 100% this game's trophy list. I already got the hardest one (Benevolent Leader) and the rest don't look too bad. Just have to do a second playthrough with different paths. deanb
The USS Constitution side quest is great. A little bit hard since at least for me one of the raiders brought a fatman to a cannon fight, but that was only the one time I attempted to "repel boarders", few tries and had it sorted. My only issue with it, and I'm pretty sure it's a bug of sorts, is that every time I'd get near/enter/leave Piper would say "I'm confused, it didn't sail up here". every.god.damn.time. Must have heard her say it 100 times. edit: There's a Buzz Lightyear mod for Danse/BOS Power Armour http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3579

Mister Jack
Platinum achieved! Bring on the season pass! You are my role model! Any tips for the benevolent leader trophy?? Benevolent Leader is not only a pain, but it's also hindered by a glitch which I will explain further down. You're going to want to follow these instructions pretty much to the letter. Firstly, you'll need a crapload of building material and about 9000 caps. Depending on your perks, you may not need that many caps, but that's about the number I spent. Anyway, here's my advice: 1) Pick a small, empty settlement. I used the Red Rocket station but I imagine most of them should work. DO NOT USE SANCTUARY. The reason is because Sanctuary is full of NPCs that you cannot move or even properly assign to jobs. They're essentially dead weight and will make the trophy that much harder to get. 2) Once you're picked your settlement, build five surgery centers. These buildings raise happiness more than any other kind of shop. Build seven beds indoors next, one of which will be yours. 3) Plant six mutfruit bushes. This might work with another vegetable, but I was using mutfruit. Build three water pumps too. 4) Build enough turrets to raise your defense rating to about 60 or so. I was at 64 but I don't think you need to be that precise. 5) Once you have the setup done, either build and activate a recruitment beacon or send over six settlers from someplace else. Get yourself EXACTLY six, not one more or less, and do not use any companions or special NPCs to populate your settlement. Their behavior is too unpredictable. You want six normal, generic settler NPCs. If you use the beacon, remember to turn it off after you have six. I recommend saving your game once the setup's complete because if you get glitched you don't want to do it all over again. 6) Assign one settler to one of your mutfruit plants (he'll do the others on his own) and the other five settlers to your five surgery centers. 7) DO NOT LEAVE THE SETTLEMENT. At the time I write this, there is a glitch where if you leave, the game can randomly decide that food and water are at zero and cause happiness to drop like a rock. This can only happen if you leave the settlement, though, so stay put. 8) Now you need to get your settlement size up to large. The easiest (and best) way to do this is to put decorative paintings of puppies and kittens on EVERY surface you can possibly get them on. Each painting not only increases happiness, but also slightly increases the size of your settlement. I used the puppy and kittens paintings because they were the smallest and I could hang up more of them. Seriously, I cannot stress this part enough. Put paintings on top of other paintings if you have to. Put them on the outside, the inside, on everything you can possibly get them on. By the time I finished I had probably over 100 paintings up, and the only reason I didn't put more was because I ran out of space. Keep doing this until the green bar turns yellow. That's the signal that your settlement size has gone from small to large. 9) Now you wait, and you're gonna be doing a lot of waiting. I've heard that it speeds things up to sleep for 48 hours in the seventh bed every time the happiness number goes up. I don't know if that's true or not, but that's what I did. Once you get up to about 90 happiness or so, it's going to take a LONG time to get up to 100. In fact, you might even want to just let the game sit and go do something else for a while. I came back every so often and quicksaved it when the number went up. I left it running for probably four hours or so, but the trophy did eventually pop up on my screen. Good luck. CorgiShinobi
On the topic of Companions, I have Piper as a romantic relationship. Thing is the game keeps throwing companion after companion on me. If I send Piper home, is that going to drastically affect Piper (or other companions) where I would have to work her affinity up again? Not that it's hard; I'm good at picking locks and she loves it. EDIT: I also ask because I'm at the part where Dogmeat magically showed up to sniff out a "person," and now I have some Dog Armor. He looks so awesome with his goggles and bandanna! deanb
I've noticed no relationship changes based on sending folks home. It'd be a bit silly to do so given there's like a dozen companions and you can only take 1 at once. Also you're pretty early on in the game. As for romancing piper: http://aatkaw.tumblr.com/post/134373900235/how-to-romance-piper-wright I've only romanced the singer so far. I was meant to be finding a missing persons.
CorgiShinobi
As it's a Bethesda game, I've been up to random nonsense for the last 22 hours. I've got Nick now as it was a pretty solid transition going from Piper to Nick after dealing with "you know."

deanb
I actually had my first game breaking bug yesterday. Fast travelled to err..is it Nordhagen Beach (near Castle or Airport, around that area. Near Libertalia which was my main destination) and Super Mutants were attacking, killed them off pretty easily (now I've found out that Settlers can get away with just one ammo, rather than companions that need consistent supply, I've recently equipped them with like assault rifles, laser rifles n such), went to speak to Settler to dump some of my freshly looted equipment onto and got the response of "thanks for killing super mutants" (which annoyingly doesn't go away until you FT somewhere else and come back, so no trading after an attack) and interface just goes away while I'm talking to her. Can't move mouse, can't open VATS, pipboy etc. Managed to open menu though so saved and quit. Loaded up again and was in same space but now just had the background LOD skybox for the sea and sky. So had to roll back to my pre-FT save. Re-killed the Super Mutants then just ran away from Settlers.
