Eleven
MMO is dead. Yes. I'm sure Bethesda will keep selling the old stuff. They can do that, why not do it? Arena and Daggerfall are out for free. Probably because they won't be able to sell such buggy games. So either Fallout 1 and 2 will keep selling, or be free for everyone. No other company making the titles? Why is this a concern? It's not like any other company can make Call of Duty or Final Fantasy? Anyway, this is awesome news. Does anyone really think Interplay winning is a good thing?
deanb
Well considering the original deal was Bethesda gets to make new Fallout games and Interplay keeps their old ones and make an MMO, I think it's somewhat bullshit that Bethesda can change their mind and that they want everything Fallout related and can sue, and win, it all from Interplay. Eleven
The original deal also had the requirement/clause/whatever that Interplay get $30 million by 2009 for the project. They didn't deny having it, they didn't deny don't. So signs point to them not having it, otherwise they would just say they have it and Bethesda wouldn't have any grounds to sue. I think that might be a slight oversimplification. They didn't win it in court, they settled, which means Interplay agreed to it (also Bethesda is paying them $2 million, which I know isn't much but it's something). The only reason Interplay would have agreed to it is if they thought there was a pretty good chance of them losing in court, and the only reason they would have thought that is if they actually did breach the original agreement. Also, based on my understanding of the agreement (which is admittedly sparse) there's no way Bethesda could have won the old Fallout titles in court, only the rights to the MMO. The fact that Interplay gave up something they knew they couldn't lose in court shows that there was some actual bargaining going on there. deanb
A New Vegas-ish fan film. I've not watched it through mind, just bits n bobs. Gonna find time to sit down n watch it later, but getting quite a bit of praise for the quality. TheMightyEthan
Kotaku (I know) has linked casting documents for a new Fallout. They claim to have confirmed their authenticity. Fallout 4 will be set in Boston (which we already suspected).

Mr. GOH!
Wait, what? What's happening with the old Fallouts?
deanb
Well it happened a while ago, just it kicks in at the end of 2013 (aka today). When Bethesda bought the rights to make Fallout 3 and so on that left Interplay with Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics for a limited time. The recent lawsuit between the two over Fallout Online hammered it home and now it's Bethesda's to do with what they want and that've had it pulled from GOG. Likely due to the fact they're quite friendly with DRM and GOG is not.

What does a "While" mean? Taking bets on what year it'll be announced/released! Come one! Come all!
Mr. GOH!
I fully blame this TESO nonsense. My bet is late 2015 to mid 2016 for an open-world Elder Scrolls or Fallout-like game. it may be a new IP. In any case, we'll get a teaser announcement by the end of 2014. I'd wager mid-2016, possibly even late-2016, personally. I really doubt they'd announce the game 6-10 months before release. Late-2015 and early-2016 would probably be too early.

deanb
Just a couple hours behind My main hope with this is it's not "Fallout 4" but a "Falout: Subtitle". I liked the New Vegas name. I think going past 3 starts to suck for naming.

Skyrim was 11 months from announcement to release, at this point, I think Bethesda could release a Fallout/Elder Scrolls game within 4-6 months from announcement. It's happening. I can feel it!!
Mr. GOH!
I think it's more likely to be announced as releasing next May, or thereabouts. I do think there is a small chance it will be announced for this holiday season. I doubt it will be announced for holiday 2016, but I am not 100% sure.
