Hot Heart
This is a topic I made on the old forum that I figured was worth resurrecting/remaking/'reimagining'; especially now that we should hopefully have more folks taking part. I decided to include the Ruby/Sapphire ones but, really, any later than Gold/Silver and you should just GTFO. Let's hear it for your first ever pokeymans and whatever you named it (if you did)! Mine was a Squirtle and I called it...wait for it...Squirt! Edited March 30, 2011 by Hot Heart
Nexus
Mine was a Squirtle also in Pokemon Blue. I didn't name it
TheFlyingGerbil
My first pokemon was Pearl. I don't remember which one I started with because the game just assumed you'd been playing pokemon all your life so I had no clue what the heck I was supposed to be doing and gave up. deanb
Squirtle. And I called him... Squirtle. My next was Cyndaquil and I called him..Cyndaquil. Then a Chimchar names Chimchar. p.s I fixed your poll to extend past GBA

P4: Gritty Reboot
Bulbasaur, the best possible starting pick in Blue/Red.
Toshi
Charmander, we kicked some major ass back in the day. We even made Misty cry.
McBeeferton
Obviously Pikachu. I'd grind so hard I'd defeat Brock with just my Pikachu.
CorgiShinobi
Squirtle in Red version, and his name was SQUIRTLE!

Mr W Phallus
Cyndaquil in Gold, still the best Pokemon game ever, excluding maybe Heart Gold. I think it's always best to go with the fire starter since fire types tend to fairly uncommon in the field. Also naming pokemon? Madness. EDIT: I just remembered, in one game I started to name my starter then changed my mind, renaming it Cyndaquil, forgetting that it would keep that name when it evolved so I ended up with a Typhlosion called Cyndaquil. Sindo
Pikachu named Pikachu in Yellow. I also played through Blue at the same time, with a Charmander named Charmander.
Harri
Being that I am half as old as some people here, Ruby was my first game. Torchic was my first, and I named it... Torchic. I was like 4 back then.
MasterDex
Bulbasaur, the best possible starting pick in Blue/Red. The way I always saw it was Bulbasaur was easy mode, Squirtle was normal mode and Charmander was Hard mode...which is why I picked Charmander - I love a good challenge! toxicitizen
My first was either bulbasaur, squirtle or charmander But now that I've made my bad joke, I think I recall picking charmander first. Was on my very first game, before I even owned a gameboy. A friend had loaned me his. I remember because he had also loaned me a gameshark and I had given the charmander a ton of rare candy to make him level 100 while I only had like 2 badges. Fucker wouldn't listen to a goddamned command Normally a thread like this would make me all nostalgic and wanting to replay the game but the last time I played pokemon was Silver, and frankly I don't miss it one bit. King Jimmeh
I'm pretty sure it was Bulbasaur, and it was nicknamed "Killer" or "Predator"
weirdwolf
A pikachu called Watt,(which I still have), I had pokemon yellow as part of a bundle with my bright yellow gameboy colour.I had no idea what the hell was going on, Brock kicked my arse all over the place the first time and then I evolved a caterpie into a butterfree and it was plain sailing from there. I seem to be unusual in naming my pokemon, I tend to use either puns,(for example I named a roselia Gypsy last night)OK really bad puns, or the names of something associated with them, such as gardeners for grass types. So if you see a trainer called Ted offering a pokemon in the GTS with a name that makes you groan you know who to blame!
claudioiphigenia
I had a Charmander named Mander. I was a terribly creative nine year old.

Enervation
Mine was a Charmander, named him Ghostfire. Proceeded to turn all of my rival's poke-douches into viking funerals.
Bizzenya
My cousin had a copy of yellow and I played around with it for a bit. Pretty sure I started out if pikachu, but I can't remember for certain. I love rpgs, but found Pokemon to be way too grindy for my taste and got maybe halfway through before giving up. Little Pirate
My first Pokemon was Charmander off the blue version, and aside from Cyndaquil, the only fire starters I went with. I did get yellow version and hacked it for the Surfing Pikachu game. Oh--as far as the name, if I remember correctly, I named my Charmander Atreyu because I had a crush on the boy from Never Ending Story
SkyGriever
My first was Squirtle... didn't name him. On the other hand, when G/S came out i renamed my starter with its japanese name, hinoarashi for cyndaquil and waninoko for totodile.
