Pirandello
So it would appear that I've won myself a copy from PC Gamer magazine. By the gods, I'm so ecstatic. I'm installing right now. Join the TAY clan! Help spread the glory! Mind telling me how that can be done? EDIT: On hold, the game crashes at the loading screen after my cursor turns into the sword. Still can't figure out what's causing it. Tried a multitude of solutions now and it's being a real bitch and refusing to work. Mal
So, if I buy this on Amazon, I should be able to link it up on Steam, correct? Also, is the limited edition worth the $10 more? Ninjas... hrmm...
Arionfrost
So, if I buy this on Amazon, I should be able to link it up on Steam, correct? Also, is the limited edition worth the $10 more? Ninjas... hrmm... You get Ninjas with every clan, they can be freely recruited if you have the money. The hattori clan just specializes in ninjas (every clan has some sort of specialization). Basically you are paying for the extra clan. It's a steamworks game, so anywhere you purchase a key or physical copy, you can register it with your steamworks account permanently. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you get a hold of a physical copy through gamestop, amazon, or some retailer. I bought the physical and it came with 2 DVD's with about 13 gigs of data, plus post install I had to download an extra 1 GB worth of update data. If you were to do this via steam, you would be waiting practically several hours just for this to finish, not to mention taxing your monthly bandwidth allotment (if applicable). In all, physical is the way to go with this one.
MasterDex
So I just became Shogun playing as the Hattori clan. I'm not sure how much I like everyone (even campaign-long allies) suddenly turn on you. It keeps a challenge there but it's messed up that you're expected to defend your lands from every single clan after you become Shogun with no chance of any alliances ever again because the other clan's opinions of you are all like -400. Edit: After a bit of forum searching, I found this mod @ TWCenter that keeps the game from devolving into a You vs Everyone Else gauntlet when the Realm Divide event occurs. Mal
Hrmm, you'd expect some to stay by your side so they may jockey for a favorable position of power if you win. Hell, if you win and all clans turned on you... there will be tons of fallen and forgotten clans in your wake. Well, need to pour more time into the game. Mr. GOH!
So I see all these new Shogun 2 players. Has anyone joined the TAY clan, though? Just pick the Steam group as your clan and begin fighting for the honor and glory of TAY!

I thought I joined the TAY clan...maybe I didn't, I think there were some problems with the multiplayer servers when I went to check it out. I'm done for the night now but I'll check it out tomorrow. Pirandello
Hey, I can vouch that it isn't my fault in this case. The game always crashes to desktop after the copyright/loading screen. I only got it to work on only one occasion but it seemed that was the exception because it just went right back to being broken afterwards. I've read some reports that people with 11.x ATI drivers were having problems with starting the game but rolling back to 10.x drivers seemed to be the solution. That said, I'vegot an ATI card myself and I'm using the 11.2 drivers and it's working fine. I felt it was worth mentioning all the same. Mal
Lets see... my army with the daimyo, youngest and the heir repels an massive invasion force from one clan, killing their daimyo. However, they die fighting another invasion massive force by a clan that managed to come back from the dead when they got sacked by Tokugawa. The middle son was on his way to back them up too... haha... nearly killed the whole family. At the same time having an side army to take the unsecured capital... I should of took that place sooner. :\ My daimyo was a boss. Now I lost all motivation to back the middle son... -sigh-

I've tried every single solution that they posted and none of them have worked for me.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have been dreading the whole realm divide sequence. I'm new to total war. My first playthrough with the hattori clan ended up with me losing my starting capital because I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I am slowly making my way with the shimazu and doing much better, but I am just scared shitless of the realm divide event, Especially since I am so far away from Kyoto. MasterDex
I'm only seeing my own friends list with that link so I'm probably missing a few people from your list but I've played just over 28 hours since getting it. How do I rank up to everyone else?

How do I rank up to everyone else? Go to the TAY steam group page (also our clan page; join up with our clan in the game newcomers!). You can see how many hours we've all played. Ranking up involves doing the avatar multiplayer mode. Just do automatches and take territory to gain experience and rank up.

I think I'm rank 2 in avatar multiplayer...or I'm halfway there. I've only won 1/3 battles...or was it 1/4. It's not been a great start anyway. Mal
Should I feel bad that I though that I shouldn't had gave away my daughter to this one clan that was bros with me but they eventually got their asses kicked by another one that was chill with me? I'm treating women as objects. After about 35 hours, though, I finally kicked everyone off the main island as Hojo, after taking shogun. Now I'm just screwing around... routing enemies out of gates to only get greeted by a firing squad of musket men. Then there is the part of me experimenting with naval warfare. Its odd on how you control the ships. Also, when I think RTS, I think Starcraft and Command and Conquer, not this. Its like Civilization but you can fight the battles. Is your castle getting siege by an army twice your size that will cream you if you let AI take over? You can win if you play smart enough. Also, formation and positioning is really important as well. For example, I placed a catapults on both sides of a castle. One of them was useless because it will hit my own castle. So that doomed it to none use. A few side notes for the catapults... its pretty damn sweet to see two groups of catapults being deadly accurate on a general with the first volley. I want cannons now... which brings up this: You won't kick ass if you just use gunpowder weapons. They require a line of sight, unlike arrows and catapults. You got to have a mix. Well, here's to another 35 hours and beyond.
TheMightyEthan
I love the Total War games but I simply don't have the patience for them, I end up letting the computer resolve all battles so the game I play is basically a combination of Civilization and Risk. I have both Civilization and Risk already. Note: This is not a criticism of the Total War series, but rather my play style.

I have both Civilization and Risk already. Note: This is not a criticism of the Total War series, but rather my play style. You are really missing out on an entire dimension of gameplay. You really owe it to yourself if you like civ to try out shogun 2. It's my first total war game and honestly I could give a shit about napolean or medieval, but I always liked the feudal era of japan. Each battle for me lasts about 15-30 minutes, they aren't all that long. At first I sucked bad, but once you understand basic battle tactics the AI in this game is phenomenal. It's less about slaughtering the other army and more about diminishing their morale. Each unit has another unit that it is strong against and weak against, and since there are only a handful of units the game isn't too taxing on your memory and not to hard to pick up and just play for someone new to the series, or someone who just doesn't have alot of interest in micromanagement. Seriously, give it a shot if you are at all interested. I don't have the patience for Civ, but this game really took me by surprise with how fun and engaging it is, I can't say enough good things about Shogun 2.
