TheMightyEthan
I've played every Total War game since the original Shogun, and I also tried the Shogun 2 demo. It's not for lack of trying, I just can't make myself play the battles.
deanb
Shogun was my first Total War. We cloned it back in first year to play on LAN, It never really caught on, so we went back to DOW. Just kind of prefer the faster pace and none of the faffing about with lining up your troops correctly and stuff. I'm not a tactician. I do however own... I think it's Mediaeval II. I should check. Yeah. Which Iv'e done the tutorial on. And I also got ..Twin Steel or Steel something or other on MasterDexs recommendation (Had to uninstall it though a while back when it was taking up a tad too much space) And I do want to put some more time into it as I think I could get some fun out of it. But to be blunt I'm like Ethan and it's just not my kind of thing. I did recently order DOWII not Shogun 2. I don't see myself jumping out to pick up the next Total War game for sure. (though to be fair I'm not much of an RTS guy either. I like my TBS and economy building stuff)

I can completely understand why for some people, it just isn't their thing. Personally, I love them but I'm not going to begrudge anyone who doesn't. I'm contemplating getting into Total War modding with Shogun 2. I feel I've been playing the games long enough to be able to create a fun and balanced mod. That said, I hate Badmin and Malicious, just because they've played for longer.
Mr. GOH!
Well Tali/Badmin has 55hrs, Shadow (an IRL mate) has 35, you've got 28, MaliciosH at 13, Battlemoose at 11, Mr GOH at 10hrs and Brainboy at 4hrs I feel like a girlie man with my meager 14 hours played. And that's mostly multiplayer. Also: 55 hours in a week?! And NOT a member of the TAY clan? Badmin, that is the very definition of a SHAMEFUL DISPLAY! Mal
I fight only like 1/5 of my battles when it really needs me to somehow kill the general(s) in order to just win the battle or at least make a good last stand. Those reasons or I just want to fight. Repeated battles, auto resolved or not, can really tire your mind out when you're on the defensive... I spent a good 3-4 years quelling rebellions all over the place because of massive food shortages. So I had to divide up my army and raise new ones. It was terrible, especially dealing with Christian rebels. Thanks the shogun gods that I had no close enemies then... else I would be fucked. Me love all sorts of RTS games. :3 As with FPS, RPG and such...

I actually purposefully destroyed one of my trading ports yesterday, because I didn't want to leave a garrison of troops in one of my cities to quell christian rebellions. Matchlock arigashu are overrated, who needs em when you have armored katana and bow samurai? I feel like I am playing at a very slow pace. So far I have capture 7 settlements on the short campaign and its already 1554 I believe? I was up playing late last night. I am playing my cards very cautiously, keeping at least one strong alliance and a vassal who has a strong army, but only one province as an addition to my army through while expanding. Also, from what I keep reading, food is pretty much your most important resource, so I am making sure I do everything I can to produce surplus. I might actually do that realm divide mod so I can keep my ally and vassal, I don't see the point in everyone stabbing you in the back when you make a bid for shogun, even after decades of continual friendship and trust. Kindof breaks the immersion of the game, not to mention makes it really difficult. I have already started over once, I really just want to have fun playing rather than worry about challenge. Pirandello
I got rolled on Easy. About, like, 12 turns in playing as the Chosokabe (was that the name? I think it's the name), and I overextended myself and ended up in a slightly outmatched battle. We won, but both of us sustained massive casualties. Four turns later and we met on the battlefield with equally matched armies again. Seems like a never-ending circle.

Mal
So, after last night, I finally took over the whole of Japan for giggles. Chosokabe Land was the hardest to take down because their armies grew to such large size after being mostly stranded on the island for so long. Not to mention the numerous choke points and long winding roads. One large army could not cut it (Nearly got wiped out until a navy rescue them after their own close defeat), two was alright but it finally required 3 to take it and hold it down. In the end, it was cut down to two largely ineffective armies that somehow winged it. Now about naval battles... How the hell is a Japanese navy without any gunboats can even take down ONE nanban trade ship? One nanban trade ship can rape an entire fleet. Even after ten minutes of firing at it with arrows and shit while taking cover behind surrendered ships, it still won't go down... I only manage to kill about a 100 of their crew and take out 3 of its 10 cannons. It took a second fleet with two Japanese cannon boats to take it down. The other ships are easy enough to take down but that nanban ship... I'm afraid to find out if you can have a couple of them in a fleet... Now, about those land cannons... do I have to convert to Christianity to get them or I just need a city of Christians? I just looked at the requirements and it seem to suggest the latter. I haven't tried it out yet. --- Side note... I'm sort of sad that there is no option for a one on one duel like that of the opening movie. It would of been pretty sweet. lol wall of text in every of my Shogun 2 posts...
