Eleven
I'm probably alone in this... "When done right, ..." The very definition of a pet peeve. There's nothing wrong with it. It just annoys me so much because it's such a safe answer. I'd rather know people's biases. Do you like x or not? Take a stand! That, plus the fact that everything "done right" would be good and everyone would like it. And that "done right" is different for everyone. It's too subjective. Thursday Next
"Good sir" I hate when people say that. It's patronising, snobbish, elitist and usually used by people who don't have the balls to tell someone that they think is a dick, "I think you are a dick." Thursday Next
It's the sir bit that really niggles though. The whole gentlemanly, cap-doffery bs.

TheMightyEthan
I like "Good sir, you are a dick." because it combines the snobbishness of "good sir" with the bluntness of just telling someone they're a dick. It's a nice contrast.
Mister Jack
Forums (not this one, obviously) that have a minimum character limit for every post. I don't always need 100 characters to say what's on my mind! What's the fucking point?! It's an internet forum! Who gives a shit!? We're not writing for the Library of Congress, here! Mister Jack
People who, when on the internet, use censored swear words when they type like "Mother F*****er." If you don't have it in you to use the actual word, then just use something else. It bugs the crap out of me when I see people do this. TheFlyingGerbil
maybe they're automatically censored by the commenting system, or the poster is worried they will be?
Mister Jack
I know when automatic censors are in play. Aside from that, the point is that if you don't want to use the word, just don't use it. Don't pretend to use it. It's annoying.
TheMightyEthan
My wife runs into a related problem a lot at work (she works as a case manager for kids with emotional problems) in reports she gets, especially from teachers. Like a report might say the kid "called the teacher an f-ing b." Okay, so did the kid actually say "f-ing b" or did the kid call the teacher a "fucking bitch"? Because that's an important distinction. Edited February 11, 2013 by TheMightyEthan
