If your opinion is I like Strawberries more than Lemons that's fine. Buy as the article suggests if you're going to bring up a philosophical, ethical or moral standpoint they better be prepared to defend it logically or rationally. I've no qualms in being ruthless to someone who decides to fight a losing battle. It is better to say that you don't know about something and bow out with grace rather than argue over something you know very little about. I have little patience with such people these days. Unfortunately people aren't always that smart.

By you, I meant one. Not you MJ :)

That's more or less what I was getting at.  If you (the general "you") express a belief to me that I think is just completely stupid and ignorant, chances are good that no amount of debate is going to change your mind, so I am probably just going to mock you without mercy instead.

This usually happens when I encounter prejudices that are steeped in religion.

It is fun though to destroy someone's entire world view when one feels particularly nihilistic. Fortunately I don't get that way often. I have done it a few times. Not something to be proud about but sometimes it is fun to argue when you have rationale backing you.

However when someone is that stupid and ignorant all you can do is laugh at them if they continue to argue pedantically over ignorfmation. Most get the idea that there's no more point in a discussion. Of course one doesn't do this to someone who argues with logic and reason.

people who start an online conversation with you and then after everything you write just put "haha" or whatever and never actually put anything for you respond to and continue the conversation. I feel guilty just abandoning the conversation but they make it such hard work. I'm hardly the best chatter to begin with.
