Strangelove
I forget most acronyms post Myspace being popular. I have to look up TIL almost every time I see it. Same with FTFY. Most of it is gaming stuff. FFS is another one. Basically, I know LOL and LMFAO. That's about it. So many fucking acronyms. I fucking hate 'em. Mal
It's smh for me personally. There might be others but I can't say I give a damn.
TheMightyEthan
I have to look up ICYMI 2-3 times a week (though I think it may have finally stick in my brain), and FTFY I have to think about for a while before I remember it. Faiblesse Des Sens
^ICYMI is one I've never seen before. I had to look up FTFY a lot before it stuck.

Hot Heart
I remembered it and what I said in response. I think at that time I even made a joke on Twitter that we will be able to condense all communication into 3-4 letter acronyms
deanb
There was the one time where after one of my bosses legal queries he passed by me (and still does for some reason), my email included "IANAL". Don't...don't ever tell your boss "IANAL".
Eleven
Opt-out language switch on talk like a pirate day. I like a lot of things about pirates. The cartoonish language is not one of them though.

Opabinia
Circlejerks, specially ones that permeate far throughout the internet. MLP spread like a plague everywhere, don't get me wrong I'm indiffirent to men watching some girls' show, but so many people made it their identity because it was an above avarage cartoon with morals like it was the first to do that. That is just one example. edit: saw thread title after posting and wondered if I had posted this on a thread about the Innernet isp lol Edited September 20, 2014 by Opabinia
TheFlyingGerbil
why the heck is everyone photo of an animate object now called a selfie?! I think the worst example recently was watching a live programme about dog behaviour and it had a section throughout of viewers' "dog selfies". It's a freaking photo the owner took of the dog, the dog did not take it itself. To my mind if it doesn't have an arm stretched out of frame it is not a selfie. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, it's only a selfie if the subject is also the photographer.
CorgiShinobi
"Oops, I thought it was there. I guess I lied." No, see you didn't lie. A lie is an intentional misdirection or misinformation, not simply being mistaken. If you made a mistake, stop saying you're lying because you're coming off like an accidental douche. I don't know if anyone here comes across this, but nearly every time I'm at work, I've got a group of coworkers that always say "they lied" when they've made an error. It's even worse when they talk to clients because they're making it worse than it truly is! Edited September 25, 2014 by Atomsk88
TheMightyEthan
I say "I lied" all the time for a mistake. I know that's not literally what it means, it's just a weird little joke.
Hot Heart
Yeah, I've seen it used as a sort of joke. I think a few times when a friend's made a mistake I pretend to overreact. "You lied to me? Why would you lie to me?!" Maybe this has been said before (with the cis stuff?) but one thing that does bug me is when people automatically disregard something because it's 'a white dude' saying it. Obviously, there are cases where it's people discussing things that they don't fully appreciate or whatever and it hasn't happened to me, but that attitude from the get-go seems to suggest that white guys are incapable of empathy or understanding. Either way, taking a dismissive tone like that doesn't help matters and just creates further rifts.
Mister Jack
Aptitude tests when you apply for a job online. What the fuck does it matter how good I am at calculating percentages in my head? The position I'm applying for has literally nothing to do with that! God damn it, I just want to submit a resume!
TheMightyEthan
They want to make sure you're okay with doing completely pointless tasks just because they tell you to.
Johnnie Walker
I don't have many internet pet peeves tbh. One is when people put spaces before a . or ! or ? Like "Don't you think the joker laughs at you ?"

TheFlyingGerbil
In the last two days on Facebook I've seen a mum post a bunch of photos of her daughter with the title "my sexy daughter" and another mum posting a photo of her daughter in her "sexy new glasses". Both the daughters are around 5-7 years old. I'm sure they don't mean it in the way it sounds, but it is really jarring to see it with the photos
Mal
The term they are looking for but are failing to grasp is "cute". Of course, little Sally is a big girl so cute isn't the word to describe her.
