TheRevanchist
Shit. That happened on my laptop today as Newegg was loading. Damn search bar moved 3 times on me. It looked like all of the banners were done loading, so I thought it was safe to proceed.
Mister Jack
It happens to me on mobile websites all the time and it drives me up the wall.
Popular Post Mister Jack
I am getting really sick of seeing people on social media making excuses for the Charlie Hebdo shooters by saying it doesn't matter because it was a bunch of white people or even that they were "asking for it" by printing satirical cartoons. Fuck you for a thousand years with a thousand dicks if this is the way you think.
Hot Heart
I haven't seen the "white people" stuff, but I am bothered by the pious twats taking satirical cartoons out of context as well. And, yeah, even if it's in poor taste or punching down, that doesn't merit death... Edited January 12, 2015 by Hot Heart
Thursday Next
taking satirical cartoons out of context as well This is my favourite example of that: Without the context it looks like they've drawn a black woman as a monkey. When it is actually taking the piss out of a far right party who genuinely posted this:
Hot Heart
Exactly that. I've seen a few of them cherry-picked and misinterpreted, with French people trying to explain the reality of them.
Popular Post TheMightyEthan
Here's the thing: even if it wasn't out of context, and it was as terrible as it looks at first glance, it still doesn't justify murdering them.
CorgiShinobi
I haven't noticed anything about race, but because there's the political/religious element to it, I've seen the typical Internet response. But like others have said, even if it may have been horrendously terrible, offensive, and downright repulsive, no one deserves death (especially the innocent among them) no matter what justification you may surmise from the who, what, when, where, and why. Mister Jack
Scalpers. Fucking scalpers. I can't even sign up for a mailing list to be notified of the Majora 3DS on Amazon because all the units are being monopolized by scalpers! The fucking thing isn't even out yet! I tried to preorder one almost a month in advance and there literally isn't a single store within a hundred miles of me that's getting any more! None! I'M TRYING TO PLAY BY THE RULES HERE. GOD DAMN IT.
TheMightyEthan
I kind of blame Nintendo, actually, for the way they do their hardware. There's never enough of it, which encourages scalpers.
Pojodin
While it's not just Nintendo, they have certainly been the main culprit as of late. I'm still trying to find a Gamecube controller adapter I can order online. Or a Wii U pro controller I can pick up in store. I have yet to be able to do either, and this is just for a controller.
Mister Jack
Do you live outside the US? Both of those things you mentioned are on amazon, but I was checking the US site. And to clarify my previous point, if this were any other company in the world other than Nintendo the scalpers wouldn't piss me off nearly as much. Scalpers are always bad, don't get me wrong, but if we're talking iPhones or PS4s or something like that, you can usually be sure that eventually there will be enough for everybody, even if you have to wait a bit. Nintendo, though? Frankly, I have no idea how many waves of the Majora New 3DS they intend to put out. Hell, for all I know they might intend to put out two or three shipments and then never make them again, and if that happened you just know they'd all be gobbled up by scalpers, meaning everyone who wanted to buy one legitimately, including myself, is just shit out of luck for this special edition handheld. It's like Ethan said: Nintendo sucks at keeping up with demand, which both encourages scalpers and punishes their fanbase. Saturnine Tenshi
Is it that they suck with keeping up with demand or that they intentionally limit supply?
Pojodin
@Mister Jack: I do live in the US, but the $20 Wii U adapters have been sold out for ages and are being scapled for $50+ online. The Pro controller can be ordered online, but as a matter of principle I found it crazy that not a single store I've gone to has had one. Wal Mart, Target, Gamestop, Best Buy, they were all out. @Saturnine: A bit of both, but it's starting to seem like more of a case of the latter. Mister Jack
I really hope they're not that stupid. There is literally no reason to intentionally limit the supply of a new console. All that would do is create fewer sales for Nintendo and more for scalpers.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, you can get the Gamecube adapter, but only for 3x the MSRP.
Mister Jack
Well if you want the first party one I guess that's true, but at least there are third party options available at more reasonable prices.
TheMightyEthan
Even those are 1.5-2x as expensive as the first-party one would be if they would just manufacture some more of the damn thing.
Pojodin
I really hope they do. It's easy money for them.
Mal
If you really think about it, I think owning a Nintendo console is easily the most expensive of the bunch. You have the above and you got the Nintendo Premium where their games rarely go on sale. Compared to my spending habits on other platforms, I'm crawling along with Nintendo. Pojodin
Yep, Nintendo is Nintendo. Good, bad, and ready otherwise.
Mister Jack
The Nintendo premium is such a load of crap. What exactly am I getting that makes it worth paying full price for a Nintendo game two or three years after release? It sure isn't online multiplayer.
TheFlyingGerbil
I think that's the point? Without online you're getting the same experience when you buy a game now or in a year's time. If you buy Call of Duty or whatever three years down the line it is a markedly worse experience than if you bought it day one. Half the effort put in to most most games now is the online competitive or multiplayer so if everyone else has moved on to the next iteration you will be stuck in a ghost town. with only a small part of the full package (the single player portion) maintaining its worth Speaking of next iterations. You're not going to be buying fifa 13 for £40 when fifa 15 is out so it has to be sold cheaply or not at all. Whether you bought it last year or two from now Mario Kart 8 will be the current version and will still have some degree of promotion from Nintendo. If you think about it, it makes sense how nintendo games hold up in price, and it would do too for other game series that aren't pumped out regularly (e.g. GTA) - the problem is they are in a massively competitive market so have to follow suit with the other games, Nintendo, for better or worse is hardly in the same market as the other two consoles so is somewhat immune to the effects. TL,DR: Nintendo games sell at full price for a long time, other publishers would sell their games full price for a long time if they could.
CorgiShinobi
I was going to suggest that if you're still looking for the adapter, GameStop had their bundles a month and a half ago. Thing is, I took a look right now and even those are sold out. Probably because people were doing what I did with it; purchasing and returning the controllers in the bundle into a local store. You would be momentarily out $60 bucks, and shipping wasn't free, but it was the only way of getting a cheap adapter.
Mister Jack
I don't accept that first point as a valid reason at all. Because the game has fewer modes of play, that makes it worth more? What? Even Call of Duty won't drop its prices without being dragged kicking and screaming the whole way, but most other games, whether they're multiplayer or not, go down in price after a while because there comes a point where it's no longer the new hotness and if they still want to draw in new players they have to make it cheaper than whatever said new hotness is. I will concede your second point though. There will probably never be another Mario Kart or Smash Bros on the Wii U, and I guess Nintendo is well aware of that. Even if you buy a Wii U five years from now, if you want Mario Kart then your only choices will be to either buy Mario Kart 8 or fuck off. Having said that, why is New Super Mario Bros Wii U, a launch title, still 60 bucks? There have been other Mario platformers since then. Better ones, too. How many people would honestly pick NSMBWU over 3D World when they both cost the same? Even Gamestop lowered the price of a used copy to 40.
