innernet pet peeves

Back to the tilde thing. What effect does "~" Have on "Kawaii desu~!" or what ever it was...

Coolness.

I'm starting to get peeved at the overuse of some memes/images- like the Citizen Kane .gif of the guy in the theatre clapping. Overall I love memes, too.

EDIT: Also, what pisses me off to a massive extent is passive aggressiveness or rudeness online. So many people do that, though I see it more on forums and closed-communities than anywhere else. I'm fine with empirical or constructive criticism, even if it's in a blunt tone, but I hate comments that have personal inferences or hostile connotations.

Even if I'm having a massively heated argument with someone I'll always try and add a lighthearted element to keep the debate cool, but so many people just don't respond and escalate even more. Being friendly makes everything better in life.

Agree with this. Some people are just I dunno, asses. It's one thing to use expletives, it's another to use it in an offensive manner. I swear like a pirate but I almost never use it against someone.

Also hate it that almost every game reveal, fan flick, preview, etc. Is met with a "meh" or something similar. Something like "not impressed etc". Gee...Really?

Saw the BF3 trailer. Almost everyone had a positive reaction about it. I scroll down on the kotaku bf3 thread and read the same shit from a couple of people. Yeah. They got all the info about the game from a 2 minute trailer.

...says "hi" Pisses me off.

WoW is the only sustainable MMO.

EVE says "Hi".

No it doesn't, it doesn't say anything.

Also, the CSI meme.

Oh and 'imma' - seriously, wtf. Because it sounds like "ima" in Japanese to me, which... kind of makes sense but not really and it just sounds retarded. :(

I'm okay with stuff like that. To me that's just people writing how they speak, and in informal settings like the forum, twitter, instant messaging, etc, that doesn't bother me, because functionally it's the same as an informal conversation with a friend. So I've been known to say things like "gonna" (apparently enough other people do that Chrome spell check recognizes it as a word) and "wanna" (that too), even though ordinarily I'm a grammar nazi.

Somewhat relatedly, I don't think I've ever seen someone write "Imunna", even though people say that quite frequently.

Somewhat related to this... I love P Diddy's text in "Get Him to the Greek"

I now always read "smiley face" in my head when I see :)

Seeing as I only recently discovered the CSI 4 Pane, i fucking Looooooooove it with a capital L.

"Horatio, the woman was run over by a man around midnight last night!"

"Well..."

"Then why was he driving..."

"In the kitchen."

(obligatory 'yeah')

THE WORD 'MEH'.

I have never liked it, I never will like it. It's just an outlet for apathetic people to disregard anything without giving any justification or interesting thoughts on the subject. Whenever someone says 'meh' I actually start to get angry. I would only ever use it if I also gave subsequent or preceding explanations for why I feel that way about the subject. People who just say 'meh' for 'meh's sake can fuck right off to the 'inarticulate and undeveloped communication skills' corner.

My major pet peeves:

-People who talk baby talk. I can't stand it when people (especially adults) will sit there and go 'I luff chu, do you luff meh? OMG SKITTLES AND COOKIES NOM NOM NOM. *Giggle* Imma hit you!

-People who will message you

one

word

at

a

time

OMG

-People who respond to you with just 'k'

-People who use 'kawaii' or 'baka' or 'desu' randomly in their sentences. You're not Japanese, stop it!

-People who assume everyone except people in their cliche are noobs and assume that having an abrasive approach to everything is somehow cool.

I admit that I do this in texting in situations where no more than an acknowledgement is required (i.e. I receive a message that says "The movie is at 9"), because I feel like it's rude to not respond at all.

What if they are Japanese, though? Does it make it any less damn annoying? I think not.

I believe it's more acceptable for me to say baka than a random otaku.

Certain people have a "do what the feck they want and get away with it badge." You probably fall under this. Otakus generally do not.

Texting is passable, especially if you have a caveman phone like mine that has 3 letters per number. I was reffering to instant messages and stuff, since they are internet-related.
