innernet pet peeves

I think I'm going to dump you guys in a chatroom or on an MMO with a bunch of 15-year-old yaoi-loving girls for a good four hours and then let you get back to me on your opinion of "Sasuke is so kawaii!! ^-^ Anyone who thinks Ochimaru is hot is a baka >:3"

My general response?

"Shut the fuck up." Proper grammar and capitalization grants a bonus percentage modifier in self esteem damage. One guy I know in one of my MMOs does it so well even the admins endorse him.

Yea. He's that good.

Hook and baiting weebs is as easy as manually breathing.

"Your anime sucks. Your character sucks. YOU SUCK."

Repeat until they rage themselves into a comatose state.

OR.

My favorite: Dive the discussion into Godwin's territory in any way you can.

People who quote/reply a post with:

This/+1/I agree

and nothing else. Write something interesting. Even if it's just why you agree. Why do you think anyone wants to simply know you agree. I have no clue who you are so why would I care?

Not saying every post can be interesting but at least try or don't bother at all.

Yeah I'd just say, especially within this forum, that you use the + rep if you agree.

Our rules specifically discourage just posting a "this", it doesn't really add much to the conversation.

lol, someone's a little miffed at Bioware, it seems.

Not just Bioware who do that, but your thing reminded me of it.

Strange has it right, there's rarely any incentive to do it. Come on, it's not like Bioware will never ever release those screenshots if folks don't retweet enough.

Chances are they an't count anyway (though they may be able to, I've not looked into any of the high end twitter clients)

@Strange: You should be able to delete those yourself btw.

The image service they used counts how many times the link to the picture has been tweeted. If you click the link you can see it below the picture.

I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate here and say I don't see a real problem with marketing like that (then again, it is only a pet peeve). It might appear annoying but I wouldn't begrudge game companies getting a little free marketing.

Sure, in this case, BioWare and EA aren't exactly strapped for cash but this isn't a full game release either. It's a piece of DLC. Plus, they know they have a community that likes to pick everything apart in search of details and this is just another way of teasing information and spreading it about. Obviously they'll still release the rest of the images but I bet people are still circulating this one (and at least they're not selling them to Game Informer as a timed-exclusive).

Besides, I've seen far more annoying (re)tweets...

Oh, can't believe I even forgot this one.

People who just simply say things are 'old' when you share something on the internet that they've already seen. It's the internet; unless it's major news, how am I supposed to know what you have and haven't seen?

Although, I haven't really noticed it in general as of late, I think it's just my jerks for friends.

'Hey, look at this funny picture'

'LOLDNEWS!'

That, or everyone know has to go 'Check out this link but you may or may have not seen this before because it is a few hours old. I apologise in advance. Sorry! SORRY!'

This is more of a thing related to modding n stuff like that:

When you have a word with someone or issue a warning or stuff like that, it's a peeve when they assume that someone in a similar situation wasn't given the exact same speaking to.

It's happened dozens of times, sometimes the same people doing it multiple times. Or sometimes warning two people and them both assuming the other isn't getting the same warning.

  • 3 weeks later...

People who make sweeping statements about what is and isn't, then, when called on it say "I was just posting my opinion blah blah... freedom of speech blah blah...".

If something is an opinion, be sure to label it as such, or accept that it may be mistaken as you reporting an erroneous fact and clarify your position without all the defensive stuff.

Also... not just an innernet peeve, but a general one. The Krishna like chanting of the Bill of Rights really winds me up. A lot of internetians act like it is some immutable document that cannot ever evolve beyond its original purpose, and then will go on to quote this amendment or that amendment.

Do you even know what "Amendment" means? It means something was changed ya know what that means? That it can (and in some places (in my opinion) should) be changed again.

In fact, I'm gonna expand that to general misquoting of laws, political doctrine, and philosophy.
