deanb
Question: Since I notice the URL implies it's posted from the tapatalk app, did you shrink the image before upload? I'll be honest I like nosying on some of the extras and somewhat bummed that the quality of the image means I can only make out that you have Matrix, though not Animatrix (boo), Star Wars, maybe Walking Dead, and Chappie n Pulp Fiction n tbh the only reason I know on the Pulp Fiction is cos I have that too. Also is that...Call of Duty on the top shelf nestled next to Tomb Raider?

Also is that...Call of Duty on the top shelf nestled next to Tomb Raider? Nah I just dropped it in and it let it do its thing. As for my blu rays no Walking Dead, and Pulp is the girlfriends. My GameCube is down there, bottom left. And after a bad eBay bid I've ended up with two copies of both Metroid Prime and Prime Hunters. I like how the colors all match up! What kind of chair is that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Got it from Argos. Not sure on the name but it was roughly £75. Pretty comfortable, although it makes this somewhat awkward cracking noise when you lean back on it. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, the app automatically shrunk it.
TheFlyingGerbil
What's the round thing I front of the mug? Is it sticky tape? If so it's very thin.
danielpholt
Nah that tape like thing is actually what's holding up the LED strip. It came pre-installed but I guess they send a spare out just in case.
deanb
You know I sorta promised this a while ago. So here's my desk/gaming area which tbh I swear actually go in a different thread but meh. Not sure on the desk, that came with the place, but the chair is from Ikea so much easier to find globally than one from Argos. It's a Malkolm. I'd sat in one of the leather ones previously and quite liked it though wanted the fabric as leather can get a horrible when it gets warm, and it's pretty affordable as chairs go. The side drawers is a slightly modified flat pack I picked up for...I think £12, from Wilko. The keyboard is only sort of temporary atm, my regular one kinda goes funky. You can't see it (well, in whole at least) but on the side is a door clothes rack I use to hang my headphones, it's a decent solution n keeps the felt pads from getting dust on them if rest them on the tower. The little easel up top does come with a miniature canvas too, it's from Clas Ohlson which might be in NA, though I've seen them in Tiger (which might also be in UK, unsure) too. I'd imagine they're not hard to find. But as a small phone stand they're quite nice. My cabling is pretty atrocious but it's miles away from my feet and as long as I'm not accidentally kicking plugs out I'm fine. A tower is a great investment over a regular 4-plug extension btw. In the interest of fairness since I was nosying, here's my shelf: I have a shit ton more books at home, but as I've shifted to Kindle I've not been too bother to remove from my parents attic. Also missing is the rest of my Star Wars which I should really get back. My plant died a couple months ago too, I've just not gotten around to filling my plant pot. I don't know where this shelf is from, it's an old housemates, he was gonna toss it but I really liked it so nabbed it. In case I have anyone over this is to make sure they don't linger too long. Obscured by terrible lighting is my Jaguar e-Type. The Optimus prime is off my mum, I don't know why, but it was nice thing to build. The post I've kept is from the Discworld Emporium, I think it tweeted it ages back but it has Discworld stamps on it. The pot thing with a light is an Airwick thing that was on offer over Xmas, got one for my sis too. I assume they were cheap in same way a razor blade handle is, and the wax costs more but I've found loads of shops selling sticks for cheap, I assume they didn't sell as well as expected. Printer is a HP Envy, it's alright, mainly for scanning but used it to photocopy a bunch of stuff off therapist too. Oh n slightly out of shot is a First Order build-a-bear stormtrooper I got for xmas. Photos were taken with "Foteej" app I'm trialling, and I swear it's almost fish-eye lensing my pictures somehow. edit: Desktop moved to a different thread and adding some older examples: 2011, final uni pad I believe - http://forum.pressxordie.com/topic/898-post-your-gaming-area/page-1#entry38815 2012, moving back with mum for a bit http://forum.pressxordie.com/topic/898-post-your-gaming-area/page-3#entry87765 2014, 2nd year at Newcastle pad - http://forum.pressxordie.com/topic/898-post-your-gaming-area/page-3#entry87765 2016, first year current Newcastle pad - See this post. My monitors have really done well, the one not in the most recent shot is still kicking around too just used by a housemate. The 5.1 speakers I still have just can't get to work properly any more with drivers n multi-monitor HDMI set-up. Mouse n keyboards have changed since, n my cup now has pens in (cos it got a crack). Also that first photo is a HTC Wildfire, which I still have n it still works. Also yes that first number says 2011.

Strangelove
Theres a severe lack of Mountain Dew and Doritos in these photos. And those tacky Halo 3 Master Chief helmets that everyone got with their collector's edition or wherever the hell they came from.
danielpholt
@Dean You've got to up your Blu ray game friend. Or at least hide the DVD's away.
deanb
Most of my movies are "digital", though I'll pick up Blu-Rays occasionally but they're more for collection than much else.
danielpholt
I don't buy many blu rays any more, but if I see a nice steelbook of a film I *want* to own then I'll pay a little more for that version. *edit - Believe it or not my phone camera is actually pretty great. Mal
Since I moved back with my folks, I've been slowly rebuilding my gaming area/my room. Not sure why since I may be moving back out within this year but I digress. WIP but displaying stuff like this is a new thing for me. Not entirely functional but having book covers facing out or laying down is kind of neat. The artwork explosion compared to traditional shelving of books is great. The bottom shelf gets the short end of the stick even though they're mostly regular books since I need it to be heavy. Good thing they're kind of my bedrock of my hobbies and interests. Could use some LED strips for lighting. So yeah... I just wanted to say something since this is so novel to me. I guess I'll post the completed bookshelf (and maybe a traditional one as well) and my desk when I get them completed.
deanb
On the LED strip front it's apparently much recommended to buy from Amazon as it's vastly cheaper there. I know there's a kind of type you can get where you buy it in lengths then cut as needed and cap it can cos of it being serial or whatever as long as you cut along the right bit it'll work as is and you just have some spare LED strip to plug in somewhere else. Your shelf otherwise doesn't much surprise
Saturnine Tenshi
Mushishi. <3
Mal
Your shelf otherwise doesn't much surprise Yeah, anime bullshit everywhere (and geology; I have a book from the 1800's!). It's not even including my figurines and rocks. Holy shit do I have rocks (they'll be there eventually somehow). Besides for Dune, LotR and ASoIF, my Western media is pretty barren. Star Wars section has Saga and webcomics (KC Green) with it. I hope to remedy it (and expand) with some Samurai Jack and some Spaghetti Western stuff. Star Wars WILL expand. I want all the artbooks and maybe Lego sets. Star Wars going to turn into its own shelf. I'm also thinking of Indiana Jones, Terminator and Predator. I might hide a MLP: Friendship is Magic figurine or two in there (Applejack and Big Mac). Maybe Adventure Time will have a spot. With that all said, music is getting it's own spot besides my personal pictures and life events memorabilia since music is life. I still collect CDs so it should be somewhat easy to fill. If I ever have this out in say a living room, I'll have a bluetooth speaker there as well. Mushishi. <3 Amazing series. I need to complete it but lets say that I want to kick myself in the balls for not completing it years ago. They're easily x5 retail if not way more... ================ BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE AND I NEED YOUR OPINION I have a real trouble about displaying games. I have desk space but most of my games are primarily digital ever since I went Steam, GOG et al. The easiest is probably a digital picture frame that cycle through box and game art but that this seems quite a PITA to maintain if I want a whole library of stuff. Might be manageable for my personal favorites though. I might need to get into coding and Raspberry Pi to link to my Steam account and whatever database(s) to pull art. There's a new Pi with built-in WiFi so it seems possible... Of course I guess my gaming PC is all there needs to be to signal my love of gaming... How would you guys solve this if you wanted to? Edited March 24, 2017 by Mal
TheFlyingGerbil
That seems like a lot of effort to me. I'd either be happy knowing in my heart that I like games, or maybe if you want a physical manifestation of that buy a figurine from each of your favourite games/franchises.
TheMightyEthan
I think the digital picture frame with the box art sounds like a pretty good solution. It would be a little bit of work to set up in the first place, but it shouldn't be hard to maintain as long as you just add new games to it as you get them. deanb
I also I guess have a Steam link in the living room. I'm quite cramped up here.
Mr. GOH!
Are all three monitors hooked into a single computer? Also, vertical monitors make my head hurt.
deanb
Yeah, can probably do four if I had a DisplayPort monitor. Vertical makes use of the space I have, can use it for documents and articles.
Mr. GOH!
I like how you use your space up without making it feel cluttered. What's your GPU? I also 100% understand why folks like vertical monitors, I just can't use them without feeling super frustrated my their verticalness and getting a headache.
deanb
Worth noting the "not seeming cluttered" is likely mainly down to me not long moving here I'm sure I'll manage a bit of clutter in time. It's not a very deep space though, so I'm a bit limited on that front. Because my "desk" is built into the wall there's also no place for tunnelling cables below. My GPU is a GTX 760. EVGA Windforce iirc (though Google says Windforce is a Gigabyte thing so maybe I've got that, it has been a while). Eitherway it's not exactly high end, I only game on the one screen, they're all physically different sizes so it somewhat forces my hand there (though I do use it multi-monitor for like video editing stuff). Should note I'd usually have them all horizontal, but given spacing this makes sense. It's a really old monitor (like it might be a decade now) and it's done well but the viewing angles on it are crap except straight on so as a vertical limited-use thing it's fine.
