Akuam4n
I have a Mamba, really nice mouse (I just yanked the picture from google though xD). only thing that I would say is bad per se, if the grips on the sides of the mouse are just glued on, and they didn't just coat the plastic with that really nice finish that's on the rest of the mouse. I guess then you wouldn't have a great grip, but I would much rather just hold a tad tighter then worry about yanking the grips off by accident when I clean it. I got it originally for the wireless, but I rarely use it for that now in since I am home all the time, used to though. I'll most likely try out the RAT mouse next, whenever I do get a new one. staySICK
Got my xmas present from Heartless today. Thing is a beast. Didn't know what thread to put this in, so here it goes. Discuss. Daaayumn. Nice. That's the mouse I'm looking at if I have to replace my G5.
UnseenK
FLD, I've heard that the Deathadder is pretty much the only better choice than the MX518. I would have gone with it myself had I a bigger budget. The Deathadder is BARELY any better in the tests that I've seen (sorry, I don't have a source, it was a whiiile ago) using software that measures latency, perfect control rate, and stuff like that. And it really only mattered if you played on a really high sensitivity. So the Deathadder and MX518 are pretty similar. FYI, if you use W7 or Vista, you'll want to take a look at this http://www.ngohq.com/news/15043-how-to-increase-usb-sample-rate-in-windows-vista-7-a.html I did it, and noticed a substantial difference afterwords. I knew my mouse didn't feel quite right after using it on XP. Here's a picture of my mouse btw (just took). As you can see the logo where my palm sits is fading away, but besides that no issues. And for fun my keyboard Not too fond of my mousepad, I wish it was a bit more buttery, but it's a Razer Goliathus.
ixa
my dad got me this one a couple of days ago: I don't really like it that much and it feels a bit too big. buuut, it's wired and it works so I'm fine.
Mister Jack
That's pretty much my mouse but without the logo. I can't wrap my head around spending 100 bucks on a mouse.
staySICK
I'm thinking about the MX518, but after all the issues I've started having with my G5, I don't know if I want another Logitech. Which is weird, because Logitech is usually really good quality. With my G5 first it was the scroll wheel, and now the DPI settings have been weird... like it'll randomly decide to go at low speeds when the light hasn't moved from the middle setting. TheMightyEthan
Like I said, I bought mine for the extra buttons for activating abilities and stuff. I can't see why anyone would care to spend more than I did though ($50).

TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I did just fine for about 6 years with a Kensington 2-button+scroll-wheel mouse with no special features or anything, but then I ran into like 3 games in really quick succession that I couldn't find a satisfactory way to arrange the controls on the keyboard, so I broke down and got a mouse with more buttons for that stuff. I like the adjustable sensitivity and everything else it does too, but I would never have paid a premium for that, it was the buttons I wanted. Mister Jack
At roughly 10 dollars per button.
TheMightyEthan
Yep, but they made my gameplay more enjoyable over several games, so I thought and still think it was worth it.

Good for you. I'll enjoy my extra comfort and buttons (as well as a better Audiosurf score).
Mister Jack
What games exactly did you play that were too cumbersome with keyboard bindings, Ethan? Also, what functions did you have to bind to the mouse? Edited December 26, 2010 by Mister Jack
TheMightyEthan
The one I can think of off the top of my head is Shadowrun, and it's the powers (like teleport, tree of life, etc). I know there were two more in the week right before I got Shadowrun too, but now I can't remember what they were... *Edit* - Oh, they were Blacklight: Tango Down and Metro 2033 (I think...). deanb
Average price for a console controller is about £40. Cost for my G5: £35. And considering you can do more with it than just gaming it's not a bad spend. And much more range. Choice for controllers is limited, mice come in all shapes n sizes n feature sets. Some might like a free spinning wheel, some might like wireless(the crazies) some like Ethan might want quick access macros. No complaints on mice being too small or too big or what not either. Clown may be fine with his mouse, and for the most part a better mouse doesn't impart better skills, but it does allow you to pull off a few extra tricks and a ergonomic mouse lets you game for longer without it being a pain. deanb
Has anyone been interested in the RAT mouse thing?I'd like to give it a shot, but as it stands it's kind of expensive. I'm hoping someone takes the idea of a full customizable mouse n makes it a bit cheaper.
Vargras
And for fun my keyboard Not too fond of my mousepad, I wish it was a bit more buttery, but it's a Razer Goliathus. I have the exact same keyboard! I just don't use the pink light. Usually blue, because it matches everything else. :B
NeoStarr
I use Logitech G-Series for everything; usually asking for the latest models every Christmas. Recently my G9 has been acting up and I've gone back to the G5. I gotta say, if you don't upgrade from the G5 to the G9 you're not missing much. I find the G9 much more comfortable after a bit of use, and it has 5 DPI settings instead of 3. Unless you absolutely need those DPI settings I would just grab whichever one looked more comfortable to you. The ergonomics are probably the biggest difference between the two; the G5 is more of a long mouse while the G9 is a wider one with changeable grips, though those are a hassle to change and you'll probably just stick with the rugged one anyways. On the other hand if you're still using the G15 I would update ASAP, but that's another thread.
staySICK
Buying a new mouse this weekend most likely. Should I go with a Logitech or Razer? specifically the death adder or the mx518 or the G500. normally logitech stuff is p good, I thought. But the fact that I hadn't had my G5 for very long and the scroll wheel died makes me rather mad.
toxicitizen
I've had my Deathadder for a few months now and I absolutely love it. The only complaint I have is that because of the finish on its surface, it gets dirty kind of easily. It's not very noticeable, but it does bother me a bit. I usually have to clean it like once a month. It cleans easily, though. I just rub it with a damp washcloth. Takes about a minute. Oh and the crack around its base kinda fills up with dead skin over time and since the mouse is black, it's pretty noticeable which is kinda creepy... Mine never got as bad as this, though. Probably because I clean it out with a toothpick whenever I notice there is some. Edited January 21, 2011 by FLD
Johnny
As far as I'm concerned, nothing can compare with the Deathadder. Great shape, works on most surfaces, no need for complicated drivers, just enough buttons, etc. I feel that mice with extra "cool functions" like adjustable DPI are only there to drive up price. I've never actually used those functions on any of my mice. I feel mousepads are also worth mentioning in this thread, because that's really almost as important when it comes to the comfort. I'm currently using a Zowie P-TF cloth mouse pad. It's waterproof and sliding my mouse across it is almost as fast as on a good plastic pad. It feels like the perfect compromise. Don't listen to tests too much when it comes to gaming-grade mice. Chances are, if it's made by someone like Razer or Steelseries, the optics in it will be so good by default that any difference is negligible. It's really much more about personal preference. Not too fond of my mousepad, I wish it was a bit more buttery, but it's a Razer Goliathus. Razer really do not make all that great mouse pads. Or headsets. Or keyboards. Although I do hear that the new Blackwidow keyboard is good. I mean, it's basically a carbon copy of an older, well-tested keyboard but with Razer branding, so they can't really have fucked it up too badly. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I use a Razer Imperator. It's the first mouse I've actually bought (the rest were stock that came with my computers), and I love it to death.
Mister Jack
I bought a Deathadder at a friend's recommendation to use with my laptop when it ships to my house, but god damn that thing is enormous. Is it a good idea to use it with a laptop? It looks like it'd take up half a mousepad. Will it be okay or should I take it back and get something smaller?
