Mice

So my current mouse is starting to crap out and I have no backup, so I thought this'd be a great time to invest in a real gaming mouse.

Of course, I'm a cheapskate so I'm obviously not looking for a $200 OMGWTFBBQBESTTHINGEVAR mouse, but something along the lines of $40. Is it possibul?

Depends on what you want out of a mouse. If you just assume more cash on a mouse = more betterer at playing games, then any mouse will do.

However if you want to maybe have access to a couple macros, or say map the grenade to your mouse, then you'll want a gaming mouse. Or if you find your hand is uncomfortable, then get something that's more ergonomic.

And $40 is a pretty good price range.

Personally I'd recommend anything with Logitech or Razer branding though there'd be a few other brands worth looking at. MS make nice mice.

Also what's with the mice fascination today? Had my housemate asking me for recommendations this afternoon. The Deathadder was among my suggestions which led him on to the Naga. He's a big WoW guy.

Well my already-aged, it's-cheap-anyway mouse decided to act up these past few days, so there's my fascination with mice :P

I do want something definitely aimed on the gaming side. I'm looking at this but I'm not sure if it's good for that purpose?

MX518 is fantastic, and will probably last for quite some time. I had Logitech Dual for a few years, then switched to MX500, and then when it finally died (after years and years of heavy use) i got a G500.

So yeah, i'm obviously Logitech biased, but the MX518 is great. If you're willing to toss in a bit of extra money, my advice is to get the G500.

I bought a Logitech MX510 6 and a half years ago and it's still working great. The from factor is perfect imo and should this thing ever break I will replace it with a MX518 I think. The only thing that sucks is Logitech's long-time support. Neither my keyboard nor my mouse are officially supported anymore so the drivers don't work very well with Win7.

Snake oil that works. Do you realize what crazy sensitivity 3,000 dpi is?

I just got a new mouse so I thought I'd revive the thread. Went for a Steelseries Ikari Laser because my old G9 crapped out. Problem is I have to return it because it maxes out at 3200 DPI. On my G9, my 2 most commonly used settings were 2700 for browsing and 3800 for gaming (that's with windows sensitivity settings maxed and I typically set Source games to 14 sensitivity). I didn't realize I had it so high until I looked up the settings and tried to carry them over to this mouse. It's unfortunately a lot slower than I'd like.

I'm looking for any recommendations; I need something with at least 2 dpi settings that goes above 3800dpi. Wired, in that fat bottom style that makes claw grip feel nice. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about just grabbing another G9. As much as I love Logitech mice though, they seem to have a lifespan, so I thought I'd ask first. So far I've thought about the Razer Imperator or the SS Xai but both of those look like the plain old thin, straight mice and my hands can never get used to that.

Also, is this sensitivity abnormally high? What do you guys typically use?

Dear god yes it is. Anything above 6 (out of 11) sens in the windows settings will get your mouse to actually skip pixels. At 7 sens the pointer moves 2 pixels per 1 dot registered by the mouse, maxing out at 5 pixels per dot at max sensitivity. Anything below 6 also gets wonky precision due to Windows emulating a slower DPI by not moving a pixel every once in a while.

I'm running an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (450 dpi) on windows sens 6 (no "enhance precision", of course) and a 3.0 sensitivity in TF2 (again, no mouse acceleration).

If you want to keep using higher windows sens, I suggest you check the "raw input" option in source games and just increase the in-game sensitivity to your liking. Will make the mouse reading much more accurate.

If this has been discussed before, forgiveness. I searched, but I couldn't find anything relating to gaming mice(?), though I'm sure it has been discussed.

Any who, I'm in the market for a new mouse. I figured since I do a little PC gaming, might as well be a well rounded mouse for both work and gaming. Problem is, I'm not sure what to be looking for in a gaming mouse. Keep note that I'm not looking for something elaborate with [many] extra buttons, or really anything that will cost me an arm and/or a leg.

I've done some browsing, and the Razer DeathAdder looks like a good, simple enough gaming mouse. Thing is, I don't know the perception of Razer other than the company made the well-received Onza 360 controller. It might be like MadCatz where they have one (or two) good products in a heap of dysfunctional plastic.

I've seen some Logitech gaming mice, but they look... odd. Perhaps like if someone took molding clay and squeezed it in the palm of their hand. They might be good, but I dunno.

I DON'T KNOW! (Save me!)

I think I'll get the DeathAdder.

Went to Best Buy today so my sister could get a birthday gift for me before moving away forever, so I took a moment to look at the "gaming" mice. They had one DeathAdder left, but at $59 I knew I could get it for cheaper online and I didn't want my sister to spend that much on me. Instead she got me AC: Brotherhood ($40).

Anyway, I got a good look at the DeathAdder and it seemed like a great design. I also got to see the G4, G5, and G7 mice from Logitech, but I wasn't entirely convinced.

Personally, been using a Razer Mamba for 2 years. I have never had any issues with it and the fact that i can go wired or wireless is one of the coolest things about it.Its got 5600 DPI for those in need of high sensitivity and has the buttons on it to change it on the fly.

razer-mamba-gallery10.jpg

it retails around $129.99 and is expensive like most Razer Products but over the last 2 years and being someone who owns quite a few of their items*Megalodon, Lycosa, Death Adder and Tournament Onza* can say that customer support is fantastic aswell as build quality. Alot of people will come out and say otherwise and that i might be jaded and meh....Maybe i am but i honestly do love my Mamba and would never change it in the world for another mouse.....unless....

P.S Aesthetics are always nice imho, its great when you have a Blue LED computer with blue LED everything else, idk but im a fan of matching my shit.

Eh, it'd be nice if Razer customer service was fantastic to me, instead of disregarding my issues as "driver problems". My mouse often double-clicks instead of single-clicking; a corruption that makes browsing very difficult.

Ever ask them if its a hardware issue? Maybe its the mouse itself, you ask for a replacement? THey normally do it without an issue from my experience. I had an issue with my Megalodons and they replaced it.IDK though but its worth looking into

IT IS THE FUTURE OF PC MICE.

The future of PC mice is glowing shit with functions I don't use for two to three times what I'd normally pay?

I'll be over here stocking up on Intellimouse Explorer 3.0's before it's too late. >_>

Haha, I was more referencing the Kotaku Razer Blade article.

Myself, I've still got some shitty Logitech wireless thing I got with this pack a few years ago, but recently the keyboard has started to lag for 10-30 seconds in the worst possible times. I've never once remembered it lagging in the middle of typing a paper, but it does seem to enjoy fucking with me while playing BC2 or something.

Anyway, I think if I get rid of the mouse I'll be getting rid of the keyboard as well (they appear to be tied into the same wireless receiver), so any suggestions for keyboards?

Driving in car with my step-dad this weekend and he was saying about how one of the community centres they deal with (he does like apprenticeship type programs) he picked one of the mouse up n noticed it had a ball on. He said he just assumed that no one used ball mice any more, was odd for him to see one again. He did mention one of the PC's was a 14 year old Fujitsu Siemens (though I think he may be a tad overestiamting the age)
