Mr. GOH!
Fair enough. I thought Valve might charge more for staggered region specific releases.
deanb
Yeah seen that on Twitter. It's kinda concerning a wee bit if they're expecting major issues with the PC release. :/ edit: Adding in this:
TheMightyEthan
I'm thinking (hoping) it's just an abundance of caution, in order to do everything possible to avoid another shitty PC launch.
Mr. GOH!
Took the day off work for this. I should just not preload ever again. Unencrypting the preload takes way more time than downloading and installing the game itself.
deanb
Yeah, mine is jumping all over the place from a few minutes to a few hours. No idea what's up, I even managed to clear a bunch of space and stick it on my SSD. There's nothing downloading, just unecrypting the game files. Not sure why it's struggling so much. Seems it's an issue a bunch of folks re having.

deanb
Maybe, but shouldn't be an issue when you have the key. Not exactly brute forcing it open.Anywho on to the game: anyone manage to save Singh? I could get to him but unless you're up for going for full kill n really good shot you're probs fucked. Maybe he'll be around in future. edit: Dang can't tell if this is meant to be real or not: https://acrnm.com/ The messed up images imply ARG, but everything else looks kinda real and somewhat Deus Ex-ey (though no trench coat). Been trying to do it non-lethally for like an hour at this point, I'm starting to lose my fucking shit here. deanb
GOH has the cheeve for it, so I assume he's done it (and seems he must have had it unlock pretty quick too, his cheeves imply he's a decent few hours ahead).
toxicitizen
Was it non lethal, though? I'm also trying not to break stealth. The stun gun has garbage range so it's worthless unless you're up close. I'm trying to make good use of my smoke and gas grenades but it's not exactly easy. edit: OMFG FINALLY! Also got the Ghost achievement at the end of the tutorial, so at least I know I didn't screw that up. Not completely sure about non-lethal, though... TheMightyEthan
I got it non-lethal with the long-range stun gun. I basically just shot anyone anywhere close to Singh. And even though I'm on PC I'm playing with a controller (I don't plan on shooting people much) so it should be super easy with a mouse. This game is so pretty. Is that the Singh no Swan Song achievement? I got it without even realizing it was a thing. What are you supposed to do exactly? Apparently I did it. The port seems to be working decently. I have to keep MSAA turned off to turn everything else up to ultra, but it performs pretty well if I do that. I also turned off bloom, vsync, motion blur, and chromatic aberration since I don't like that crap anyway. I dunno, I might try playing around with it a little more. TheMightyEthan
You don't like vsync? You psycho. Anyway, all you have to do is keep Singh alive
Mister Jack
You don't like vsync? You psycho. Anyway, all you have to do is keep Singh alive I didn't even realize he could be killed. I don't think I even went anywhere near him. I just knocked out some enemies coming up the escalator, then went around the left side, threw a gas grenade, and made a dash for the helicopter. I guess I just did it fast enough to prevent his death.
Mr. GOH!
I did it by charging ahead and using a lot of the punch Aug. I am very violent, but I do not kill. I unplugged the chopper's battery very quickly, too. I am playing on give me deus ex because reviews have called the game kinda way. I love this game so far. Feels like Deus Ex. Also, it looks so much prettier than Human Revolution. Runs fine on high with a few settings bumped up to very high on my 970. Edited August 24, 2016 by Mr. GOH! TheMightyEthan
Anyone else notice that warning that your saves won't work if you ever uninstall the game? That's some right bullshit there. Anyway, the game is super pretty on Ultra: (That's actually custom because the Ultra preset doesn't max out all settings, for instance only having 8x AF instead of 16x). Also, GOH, were you actually wanting to watch my broadcast earlier, or was that a misclick? I hadn't ever set up Steam broadcasting so by the time I figured out how it worked you had already launched the game yourself.
Mr. GOH!
No, I just wanted to jump on your or FLDs stream to have on in the background while I did a little housework. No big deal. I didn't know whether you guys had it set up or not.
toxicitizen
Pretty sure I turned broadcasting off entirely. IIRC, it has a performance impact (or at least it had one when they first rolled out the feature). Also, re:Singh I guess I got unlucky because that fucker simply did not want to live in my game. He kept dying at the most unpredictable times. Like, I'd load a quicksave and he'd die before I could do anything. I'd reload the same quicksave and suddenly I had plenty of time to take out the guy next to him. I only managed to do it by rushing to the back of the room by sneaking around the sides and clearing the area immediately around him first. Then I was able to work my way back to pick off the rest of the guys. It easily took me over an hour of reloading. Anyway, so far it's Deus Ex alright. I have 9 hours of playtime but the only main story mission I've done is the tutorial one. Most of that time was spent on side-quests in Prague. Speaking of which, the Prague hub is actually a massive improvement over HR. I haven't been everywhere yet but it's easily bigger than Detroit and Hengsha put together and way more dense. If there's a good amount of missions in decently-sized extra locations like the FEMA base and Tai Yong Medical, then I won't have any complaints about the lack of more hubs. Also, I fucking love that there's an achievement for entering 0451 as the code for the very first numerical pad you encounter. I hope that tradition never dies. Mr. GOH!
Anyone should feel free to watch my broadcasts. I think I'm always broadcasting when I'm in-game. Yeah, I'm happy with the Prague hub's size and the variety of breaking and entering I can engage in. I like the idea of a future in which ebooks, credit chips, and pocket secretaries are all separate and discrete devices. It's a world with hyperfuturistic human augmentation but no smartphones.
deanb
I spent a chunk of the first part in Prague jumping through peoples windows (note: don't do this all the time cos some people are vendors. In fact there's a lot more vendors than prior games had). Then a bunch of time wandering around, stumbled across a weird side mission that might have been easier if I'd done the "go get your augs turned back on" thing first But yeah, rather enjoying it. Wrapped up when it crashed leaving the shooting range, was like nearing 1am so figured a good time to stop
Mr. GOH!
I will crack you yet, Palisade! Biggest Deus Ex honeypot ever. Edit: Adam Jensen, breaking into a high-end property bank while putting off reporting to his job with an elite INTERPOL* law enforcement task force. Turns out I need a better infiltration build to crack Palisade. Should not have put the huge number(like 12 or 15 or something crazy) of initial Praxis kits all into hacking. It was also cruel that the game had me upgrade one of the new augs but then take away those points. I didn't realize I no longer had remote hacking installed until much too late. The single player one-time DLC kits are super dumb and annoying, but not as dumb and annoying as the stupid breach items in the single player game. I want my SP and dumb tacked-on MP as separate as can be; preferably with separate .exes, as God intended. It is also confusing that the 'storage' tab in inventory is actually how you access DLC items, some of which are single-use, and others that you can use every playthrough. Full disclosure: I wasted the extra Praxis on unlocking the useless-so-far rebreather aug. Pro-tip: get the "lift big items," Icarus landing, and hacking augs first for maximum infiltration. Speaking of hacking, I get the feeling that the detection percentages way underestimate the real detection chances. There have been a couple boards on which 0% detection chance files consistently trigger the trace, and others in which the 15% detection chance rating feels more like 80%. I also feel like hacking has been balanced so it's harder to get extra items and money, which I am totally cool with. I am amused that multitools are back, but they do feel like cheating. At least they make more sense than the stupid hacking grenades from HR. So far, the sidequests and open-world exploration feel far better designed than they have in any previous Deus Ex game. At least reading the terminals has forced my Jensen to confront the fact that he is a thieving monster who does not hesitate to steal from orphaned refugees' hidden lockboxes. *Interpol does not work the way it is portrayed in most popular media and it bugs the hell out of me. It doesn't have its own agents who investigate crimes; it's an organization to help police organizations in different countries coordinate with each other. It's an information-sharing group, not some sort of independent agency with supranational law enforcement authority. Edited August 24, 2016 by Mr. GOH! Mister Jack
I have one minor gripe with this game in that you can't use the tab key to back out of menus. You have to either reach up to hit escape or you have to click on the back button. It's minor, but considering how often you're in menus it gets kind of annoying. deanb
Mine is the platforming can be a bit cruddy in engaging the "Adam Jensen now grabs the ledge/pipe" stuff. Which has led to a few game overs. Otherwise it's all pretty great, though I carry on being told off for not dong the main story I imagine given the game is sorta keeping tracking of that, it'll come in to play some point.

At least in this game that explicitly say that Jensen's unit was created as a result of UN action following multiple simultaneous terrorist attacks around the world, and they only have jurisdiction in like 18 countries that signed on. Since it's a new thing it doesn't have to work the same.
toxicitizen
Edit: Adam Jensen, breaking into a high-end property bank while putting off reporting to his job with an elite INTERPOL* law enforcement task force. That's nothing. In my game, Adam Jensen broke into his workplace's infirmary and stole all the neuropozyne. Which, if you'll recall, he does not require. Speaking of hacking, I get the feeling that the detection percentages way underestimate the real detection chances. There have been a couple boards on which 0% detection chance files consistently trigger the trace, and others in which the 15% detection chance rating feels more like 80%. Are you sure there wasn't something in the way? if there's a firewall on the path to the node, it'll trigger the trace even if the node has a 0% chance of detection. I got my hacking stealth maxed out early on and I've been hacking everything in sight without any difficulty.
