Mr. GOH!
Maybe? It does feel like my old strategies for hacking no longer work. I might just not know to look for firewalls and other stuff. My hackign stealth is maxed, too. Just have to upgrade fortify. Yeah, the platforming is typical Deus Ex jank, but I'm okay with it.
deanb
I'm currently breaking into Pallisade (I did pop in earlier cos yeah it's like a big tease but now I have a mission for it) to get some tasty info on Picus. Which I'm amazed I couldn't just go "well their reporter is an AI hologram, I had a chat with her a couple years ago". Corporate security agent breaking into places was kinda okay-ish cos espionage n shit. But yeah now you're "the law" it feels a bit weird you're breaking into places, dealing with black market arms men n such. And yeah, hacking into your own work and disabling a bunch of systems. Amazed no one was like "I was chatting with Jensen, then he sat down and checked my emails. He even knew my password somehow". So far Pritchard > Chang for IT guy.
TheMightyEthan
Well I've messed around with Steam broadcasting and now friends can watch my games whenever, without asking for permission first. Not that will probably ever want to again.
toxicitizen
So, my first ten hours or so with the game were pretty awesome. But something didn't feel quite right and I couldn't tell exactly what it was. It played like Deus Ex but something felt a little bit off. I just got back to Prague after a mission and it's nighttime for the first time since the beginning of the game. That's when it finally clicked: it had been daytime the entire fucking time before! What the shit? I mean, this is Deus Ex in a nutshell: You don't set it in the fucking daytime! I better not see sunlight again for the rest of the game, damn it! Also, that song is kind of awesome.
Mr. GOH!
I am so happy my strategy of "stealth until detected; then everyone's getting punched" still works!
TheMightyEthan
That's more aggressive than my strategy, which is stealth until detected, then reload last save.
toxicitizen
That's more aggressive than my strategy, which is stealth until detected, then reload last save. Good to know I'm not the only one playing the game correctly. Although, I do like to punch some people whenever they make my stealth more difficult than it needs to be. The Splinter Cell fan in me never gets tired of hiding bodies. Also, I'm kind of annoyed with the game right now. Just wasted an hour on a section because I kept getting discovered (searching phase) and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I wasn't sure if it was scripted or if it was a bug and I was getting screwed out of my perfect stealth run. Ended up being forced to spend Praxis points on the cloaking aug so that I could leave the way I came, which was now blocked off by lasers. Not that big of a deal considering I've been pretty stingy with them and had like 13 saved up but now I'm wondering whether there was anything good that I missed down the way the game seemed to want me to go. :/ But yeah, am I the only one finding the game kinda buggy? Nothing major but there's little things all over the place. For example, and I'm assuming this wasn't normal, when I first got to Prague literally all the shop doors were open. All of them. It was oddly immersion breaking in an hilarious way. Then when I got back to Prague after a mission, all the shopkeepers kinda reset and were talking to me as if they were meeting me for the first time. Another annoyance is with the controls. Basically, some inputs register when they shouldn't. Whenever I click on a control panel that exits automatically (e.g. to unlock a safe) Jensen will take out his gun upon exit as if the click was registered both inside and outside the panel. Similarly, if I quicksave while in cover, when I press spacebar at the end of the loading the game will register it and Jensen will run out of cover as soon as the game starts. At one point I actually had to quit out to the main menu and rebind the button for jumping out because he was running right in front of a fucking gun turret. Mister Jack
I've encountered a bug in this game that's becoming a real problem. When I load a save and hit the space bar to start the game, it also reads it as me hitting the space bar IN the game. So basically, if my last save was behind cover in an area full of enemies, as soon as the save loads Adam vaults over the cover and exposes himself. It's causing me all kinds of headaches. Is this happening to anyone else?
TheMightyEthan
Read FLD's comment right above yours.
deanb
Yeah I had that happen with the whole "quick save while under cover = die immediately if you reload that cos you jump into a turret" I've also noticed that when sprinting it can sort of "slow down" a bit. You're doing the sprinting actions, arms pumping n such but you're only moving at walking pace for a few seconds. Also the red dot on my laser going (the beam still emits a few inches from the gun, just not red dot where it's pointing). As for missing stuff: Probably missing loads, this is huge compared to the last few games. I've just arrived in Golem City and it's gorgeous as a hub (well, it's sort of a one-off main mission area I'm to understand rather than anything you'll be coming back to massively). There's a flat I want to go back to. I thought I was being sneaky in getting there, and as soon as I got in all the doors n windows lock down and a VO plays taunting you (though thinking you're someone else) n pumps the room with gas. I couldn't figure my way around it so had to go back to an earlier save instead. For me Aug wise, much like the last game I save them until I need to spend them for a particular issue I'm up against. However I will say the super jump is my most useful so far. Loads of higher up vents(including a few in the roof), and secondary platforms to reach. I couldn't figure my way around it so had to go back to an earlier save instead. Lol, I think you actually stumbled into a main story location earlier than you should have. It's hilarious that it was all set up to work even while that mission isn't active (unless it was and you simply hadn't gotten around to it yet). But yeah, if it's what I'm thinking you'll go back there eventually. As a more general commentary, the side-missions in this one are pretty solid so far. That's another area where it's unarguably a massive improvement over Human Revolution. Just finished a particularly interesting one that I think is going to pick back up later on. They're definitely the highlight of the game so far. Also, I'm nearing 25h of playtime now and I'm getting kinda worried about that ending abruptly thing, to be honest. There's some decent progress being made in the main story and I've done a fair amount of side-missions. So, even though I'm sure my play style is much slower than most, I feel like I have to be getting close to the end. But if the game were to suddenly wrap up soon I'd be pretty disappointed in the main story. It's not bad but it kinda feels like not a whole lot has happened so far. Like, in HR the story moved at a pretty decent pace. Here, it feels like I'm still in the first act.
toxicitizen
Damn it, it happened again. This time I thought maybe there was a body I hadn't hidden properly (one in particular had clipped through a railing and gotten stuck so I just left it there) but I went back and dragged everyone into fucking vents and I'm still getting a searching phase as soon as I reach a certain point. Of all the fucking bugs to have... edit: Well, looks like I got screwed out of my perfect stealth run by this fucking game. To fix this I would need to go back to the very start of this mission and the only save I have that would allow me to do that is like 6 hours old and would make me lose a whole bunch of progress. Ugh. Edited August 26, 2016 by FLD
Mr. GOH!
I've not had any bugs so far, but you guys have played way more than I have by now. I don't have the time and patience to go for a pure stealth run, though I do try to stay stealthy and I actually do reload when I'm spotted many times.
TheMightyEthan
I haven't had any bugs either, but I've only played like 5-6 hours. I will reload a save if I'm detected for something I just did, but I'm not gonna load a save from half an hour earlier just to avoid a body being found or something. deanb
I'm not going for stealth, if I can I will cos it makes things easier, but if need be I'll pull out a more lethal weapon (for example when you can't get armour piercing tranq darts...) I like how the plot is responding to your actions (I assume the other people going for a full stealth play haven't had a second augmented terrorist attack on the train station reported? "Your'e definitely going to see the psychologist Jensen!") On the bug front they've sorted out a 2nd patch. Really responsive, seems they're at least following up on their reason for the PC delay: http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=191026 (I'd not noticed the "Unmark All" thing was a bug . Also I guess that running up stairs is the big thing for me with the "like he's running with all the motion of running, but not the speed" thing I'd mentioned earlier. I guess I'll find out in a mo). toxicitizen
Well, the body thing was more like 15mins back and having already explored that area it was like 5mins to replay that section. Anyway, I was hoping to get the Foxiest of the Hounds achievement on my first playthrough. Gave up on it after the bullshit from last night, though. Also murdered someone just for shits and giggles, I'll do a stealth and pacifist run at the same time. I kinda regret not playing on Give Me Deus Ex difficulty anyway, so I'll do my perfect stealth run when I replay it on that. I'm gonna want to 100% the game eventually, so I'll need to replay on that difficulty to unlock the I Never Asked For This one anyway. Mr. GOH!
Oh, yeah, Give Me Deus Ex is not really all that difficult at all. From everything I read, the game is super easy on the lower settings.
TheMightyEthan
Steam says there's an update, scheduled for 5 minutes from now. I want to play now so I force it to update, it fails, adds 2 minutes to scheduled time. I wait, scheduled time arrives, it tries to start update, fails, adds 5 minutes to scheduled time. I try to launch game, it tries to update, fails, tells me it can't launch the game. I launch Steam in offline mode, it won't let me play without the update. I am ready to stab someone. *Edit - I can't even fucking delete the game and redownload it because that will break my saves because WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY MAKE IT LIKE THAT?! Edited August 26, 2016 by TheMightyEthan
toxicitizen
Yeah, it won't download the update for me either.
TheMightyEthan
I switched content servers to UK and now it's validating, which is more than it was doing before. It's only gonna take 25 minutes, too! *Edit - Yep, that worked! I take back every bad thing I ever said about the UK. Except iced tea is still the best. Mr. GOH!
I wonder if the inability to keep your game saves if you reinstall is somehow related to the weird single-use DLC system. It's a deeply stupid restriction.
TheMightyEthan
Yes, it's incredibly incredibly stupid. Especially since you have to unlock the highest difficulty, meaning if you think you ever might want to play that you have to keep the game installed forever.
deanb
I imagine it's tied to the DLC thing and the Denuvo thing. I've vague hope we might see that patched out once they get past the first set of sales maybe.
toxicitizen
Where did you get the uninstall save loss thing from? Because that sounds fucking insane and I can't find anything about it online. You'd think it would create at least some discussion or something. Do you mean this? Because that sounds more like a warning of incompatibility if you rollback to a previous version after an update. There's an easy way to find out. Whichever one of us has the least amount of playtime/progress has to uninstall the game and risk his save for the good of the PXOD community! Alternatively, I don't think I'll be unlocking the hardest difficulty by completing the game on Give Me A Challenge, so once I finish the game (likely tonight), I might test it out since I'll have nothing to lose. TheMightyEthan
The first time I launched it I'm like 80% sure that said "game", not "update". I haven't read it since, but I agree with your interpretation of what that says.
