Developer: ArenaNet

Publisher: NCsoft

Release Date:

TBA

So this is an MMO I'm kind of looking forward to getting into when it releases.

I've heard good things on the first, like the visual style. Maybe a bit too late to get in on that.

I'd say the main draw is the pricing structure, pay once, free forever after. I think that'd suit my kind of drop in drop out style. I'd love the same model on EVE, not up for signing back up for a month or so sub when I may only play for a few hours that week then drop off. Good system to have for when there's the drops in game releases at certain points of the year.

Heres a whole bunch of Guild Wars 2 info from the sight Massively.com. A lot of this stuff is on the GW2 site, but some like the videos of the thief and the Norn starting area aren't.

Also, I'm assuming that this is an all purpose GW thread, so if anybody is playing GW 1 a the moment send me a notice as I'm just getting past Ascalon as a lvl 12 ranger! So far, fantastic game.

GW1 was highly enjoyable even on a casual level, so I'll definately be interested in this.

However, I have no idea how they are handling cross-continental play in this one, if they are going to support it at all.

In either case, I'd be highly interested in being part of a TAY-based guild; european or international.

Well, Tyria is plenty big and varied enough for the base game to start in. I'm sure we'll see the other areas in expansions down the line.

Which brings up another point - a lot of people have likened the expansions in GW1 to a subscription fee, because you need to buy them all to play the full game.

I'd say, sure, that comparison is somewhat valid. But it's also much cheaper in the long run - there are now three base campaigns and one pure expansion for GW1 - and if you're thinking of starting up your account again, you don't have to pay a sub fee to just install it and mess around before you're sure you're gonna be playing.

I know for myself that it's far more likely I'd still be playing WoW or any of the other MMOs I've tried, if I could just jump on whenever without having that ticking clock and a subscription fee over my head.

The most recent example of a game I'm not gonna resub to, but might still be playing had it used the GW model, is DC Universe Online.

I hope Tyria is actually bigger, because it will seem a lot smaller in a persistent world.

@Johnny, They said in the panel that they don't have anything available yet for cross continental play, but they are trying to get it to work. I don't really know what that details, but hopefully it will be available at launch. Also, like you said, some people say buying the expansion packs is equivalent to paying a sub, I bought the trilogy for 20 bucks on sale on steam and bought eye of the north for 9 bucks on amazon. I think it is a way better model, because deal hunters like myself will come out ahead! Although, I won't be getting a deal on the initial launch of GW2, because I've already pre-ordered it through amazon.

From the looks of it i sense mid 2012 to fall, seems like the best option for them to release it. It looks as if its pretty straight on its track and its not gonna falter. They are releasing the good bits of info as confirmed features. Lets hope im right, 2012 is gonna hurt my wallet something fierce, SWTOR,WoW,GW2 initial purchase+possible PVP items, Firefall and Wildstar Online. /cry

Firefall shouldn't hurt your wallet unless you must have the microtransactions. :P

Guild Wars 2 does look mighty good (and I've always been a fan of the 'pricing model') but I doubt I'd have the time or patience for it, as with most MMOs.

I think its worth getting for the PVP alone, i mean the first Guild Wars is worth it for the PVP. Hell you can buy the pvp on its own if you like. If you havent tried it its worth a chance. But then again not many others beside myself in the community are a fan of Hotkey MMO's
