That's the new version of the Mac Pro (the silver thing to the left)

A size comparison:

Thing is this is their "pro" product, you think iMacs are pricey, these start at like $2.5K+. Mac Pros are used in the film industry for their raw grunt, and having it in a "unified thermal core" shell with a crap ton of custom parts is going to make it a pain in the ass if it busts cos you're going to have to send the whole thing in to Apple. A consumer product having to do that? Whatever. But a product where lack of use is costing tens of thousands a day it'll be unacceptable. But if you're tied into using OSX then you've got to take whatever Apple throws your way.

For the record, though, I think it looks great (I just made a joke above)! However, I also realize it's probably way impractical for the type of work it should do. Concern seems to be lack of expandable... shit. Graphics card? I don't know. Something along those lines. Oh, and storage too.

Argument is there are a lot of thunderbolt 2 ports for those, but then it'd be the cylinder surrounded by a mess of wires. Would have been a lot better if those were internal expansions. You'd think transporting it would be easier since it's more portable, but then you also have to pack in all those wires and external expansions. Kind of a mess. Unless you don't actually need a lot of expansions. Then it'd probably be awesome.

Tech blogs seem to agree it is a feat of engineering. I mean, it's twice as powerful as the old Mac Pro, but half the size.

Who cares though. I just like pretty things!

I'm waiting for someone to crack this thing open and see what is and isn't replaceable. If you look at the page on the Apple site it shows some parts coming out of the case when it opens and they show you the various parts of it.

Did you just excavate this post or has it been dug up long ago? I tried looking for it multiple times but it was always missing.

Sad no new iPads. I was waiting for a mini with Touch ID.

It would be interesting to see how Apple pay works with regards to vendor support and security. Passbook, AFAIK, never really took off. I guess this is the part that was missing.

Kinda surprised about the look of the body of the applewatch. Looks fat, and I bet those who were hoping it'd use curved glass like in those crazy mock ups are disappointed. I like the interface though. And the dial thing. If it gets less smudges on the screen it's a good thing! And one thing I hate, absolutely hate, about the iOS interface is the date picker. With the dial, at least it'd be a lot better to set dates. Oh, and they spoke about watch faces being customizable, but it looks like you just get a preset, with at least one where you can pick which info shows. I wonder if it'll support third party wathfaces, since they're into extensions now anyway. Oh well, I'm not really interested in getting a smart watch.

Also, free U2!

There. I've said my piece. Welcome back Apple thread!

My mother bought herself an iPad Air 2 recently so I've been thinking about getting her a nice case/keyboard for Christmas.  Does anyone know if there's a difference between the Air and the Air 2 when it comes to accessories?  I don't want to drop a Benjamin on something only to find out she can't use it.

I believe that the air 2 is .05 inches thinner, which may not effect both. I would find one that specifically states it fits the air 2 in the description. I doubt the thickness will make much of a difference, but hey smaller amounts of size have affected people in bigger ways before.
