Akuam4n
COD4 was the best one (IMO) hands down. It was simple, it was fun, and incredibly addictive. MW2 added way too much... stuff that you didn't need. I think people would have been happy with just a few more guns to choose from, and a few new perks. Making shottys a secondary weapon, adding heartbeat sensors, and thermal scopes ruined it for me. No one "sniped." They all camped with their thermal sights, or ran around quick scoping, and could save their ass if they missed because they had a shotty (which, you COULD have done in COD4 if I remember right, but then you couldn't get a 1 shot kill with your sniper rifle). Black Ops just added MORE stuff that wasn't needed. Plus, I do agree that the guns feel awful. I am spoiled by Halo and KZ2.

Yantelope
So Black Ops on the PS3 sucks? Why? http://www.destructoid.com/activision-threatens-to-pull-black-ops-ps3-support-192039.phtml
Yantelope
Well, Apparently Modern Warfare 2 is happening right now. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/01/24/report-explosion-moscows-busiest-airport/

deanb
hehehe. Btw on the news of COD, and I find this to be really well worth keeping an eye on for gamers in general: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107163-Gaming-Advocacy-Group-Reports-Black-Ops-to-UK-Government Gamers Voiceare reporting COD Blops to UK Office of Fair Trading. Specifically the PS3 n PC versions. OFT can basically have Blops and all future COD pulled from UK shelves. This for Activision is potentially pretty serious should OFT act on the complaint. It's also got the potential to be great for future releases. If it's know the UK, one of the largest gaming markets out there and I believe 2nd largest for COD, is taking overly buggy games off the shelves, then expect studios to start taking QA a bit more seriously in the future and to not release the game n patch later mentality. Mal
Well, Apparently Modern Warfare 2 is happening right now. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/01/24/report-explosion-moscows-busiest-airport/ Yeah, when I heard it from my alarm radio, first thing out my mouth was "Remember, no Russian." And Dean, let us hope it be true since Black Ops was pretty eh in my books. Also, I never really noticed the MP textures in the maps until Black Ops. Holy shit, what am I looking at? PS3 version by the way.
staySICK
Really the connection issues are the only issues I've had with blops. No freezing, no crashing. Just lots of disconnecting lobby tossing. Even private matches in combat training.

deanb
Amazed no one's updated here http://www.findmakarov.com/ Supposedly it counts down to GDC next week for a potential first look. I'm somewhat suspicious since it's hosted on tucows, and all other Activision n COD related sites through markmonitor and registered to Activision. Maybe it's common practice to host some of your sites randomly away from the rest, but I'm not thinking that's the case.
deanb
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-09-cod-modern-warfare-3-date-report It's supposedly called "Call of Duty: Project Colossus"
TheMightyEthan
I'm still skeptical that it will be Modern Warfare 3, considering there's a contract dispute over whether they have the right to make modern CoD's. If Activision makes MW3, and then West and Zampella win the lawsuit we're talking potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in damages that Activision would have to shell out. HotChops
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-09-cod-modern-warfare-3-date-report It's supposedly called "Call of Duty: Project Colossus" I haven't seen any other sites posting the story, which makes me question it. My friend and I have been talking about this for weeks. He insisted that Activision just has to release a Call of Duty this year. I said I wasn't sure; that all their legal problems and internal developer shifts could have forced them to shut down and re-tool for a year. I predicted they might release a massive Black Ops update -- something like Call of the Dead -- instead.
deanb
They posted the story like 40 minutes ago (Also Tesco being a UK supermarket and most game sites being US based would mean it'll be a while for news to filter down)
Can
I like the lack of care about MW3 here, is it because you guys dislike Call of Duty now or just plain don't care?
Maritan
I like the lack of care about MW3 here, is it because you guys dislike Call of Duty now or just plain don't care? I like IW's games, so I'm probably going to buy MW3. I regret buying blops. Speaking of haters: yeah, I think too many people dislike the game. And that's coming from Battlefield player. I just don't really care anymore. This yearly cycle is really killing whatever love I had for it. Its like getting tired of Final Fantasy on overdrive. deanb
Here's the video. It looks like a game chock full of meaningless set pieces in a plot that most likely has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. And it will sell by the boatload. Not even michael bay films are as downright horribly bad as the Modern Warfare series has become.People give the game stick but I still think MoH has had one of the better campaigns for a modern setting FPS. Can
I don't really see military FPS games dying out like Guitar Hero. Guitar Hero and Rock Band were niche products for a relatively limited market. Yeah, they were really popular, but that's because they were a fad. Military FPS games aren't a fad, they're a set genre dug in stone by now. Military FPS games won't be decreasing in popularity anytime soon, even in an oversaturated market. It'll be fun, for sure, but for how long? That's something every FPS maker asks to make successful games. Activision is literally trying to solve that question by pumping out Call of Duty games every year. I personally won't mind getting a pirated PC version of this and have fun with the single-player and some LAN with my friends. If you're wondering how I can do that so easily, I live in muthafuckin' China. Edited May 24, 2011 by Can
