Falling asleep during a gaming session(s)

Do you ever? I once fallen asleep during a long session of Diablo 2 Cow level binge, when I woke up my Amazon is dead, laying on top of dead cows, my party already cleared the field (except for the Cow King of course) and left me behind.

Actually, I fall asleep in Diablo 2 a lot, that's when I noticed that I start to get bored with the game (killing cows everyday or hunting down Mephisto over and over again) and it's time to move on.

Naw, i dont play boring shit like Diablo 2.

I would never play a game where I would get so bored I would fall asleep. That's against the point of gaming!

When I play Diablo 2 it's actually quite fun really, playing normally in single player, but when I decided to try online my friend taking me to do a speed run, big mistake, at first it was fun, finishing D2 that fast, and leveling at the cow level is fun (at first), but when I hit higher level (70? 80?) it get really repetitive and boring because it take longer to level up.

And my friend already maxed 3 characters, after fallen asleep a couple of time I decided to quit and play Counter Strike instead.

I really, really fail to see how people can fall asleep at the keyboard or at the controller.

Isn't the whole purpose of a game to entertain you and attract your attention? With the exception of extreme sleep deprivation (which I highly doubt people have, because you're fecking gaming, right?), it's just... really, really, hard for me to believe that it can happen.

I have a friend who was notorious for falling asleep during Halo 3 and COD:WaW. I think it was probably the ages of his two kids (who were then around 2-5) and the fact that he was probably up earlier than any of the rest of us.

Yeah, it might not be that fun when you fall asleep in a single player game and lose, but it's also not that fun when you're wide awake in a close multiplayer game, and the teammate you can normally rely upon to help you out is completely sleep at the wheel controller. It was pretty entertaining that we could sometimes wake him up by yelling his name into the mic.

We ribbed him about it, but it wasn't ever that big of a deal. Now that his kids are a bit older, it doesn't seem to happen any more.

Have kids. (preferably more than one) Then let me know if you can see how it could happen.

When you're trying to juggle a spouse, a full time job, multiple children and making time to play a few games with your friends when the rest of the family is asleep...it becomes pretty easy to see how it could happen. It doesn't happen to me because I'm a night owl, and gaming when tired ends up affecting my mornings more than my evenings, but it doesn't surprise me at all that I've had more than one friend fall asleep while gaming in the past.

Hmm, I can see that providing quite an incentive to fall asleep. I suppose I should clarify a bit - I don't understand when people my age, university fellas, fall asleep while gaming. I can understand that maybe, just maybe the coursework would be enough to cause an extreme amount of stress to fall asleep... but I'm a full time computer science student full up on units (they wouldn't let me take any more classes) as well as a part time job, leaving me with barely even the weekends to play (because I also work weekends, even Sundays, which means good money). I guess people are just built differently.

As for kids, though. Christ, I had to do a babysitting job once. Babysitting all my little kid cousins. The horror.

Yeah, that I don't get. If you're gaming to the point that you're falling asleep mid game in that situation, just get the extra sleep that your body obviously needs. University, at least for me, definitely had some intense periods that didn't leave much time for gaming, or partying, and some less busy periods, where school, socializing, and gaming were all able to co-exist.

But yeah, as a student, if you can't fit sleep and classes (and the preparation and homework that goes along with that) into your schedule, you need to stop gaming until you can.

Hahahaha yeah I actually pick a fishing game (Reel Fishing for PS1) as a sleeping aid, my dad once ask me why he always found me sleeping when I play that game and I told him that this game is so peaceful with river and nature sounds it help me sleep.

I've been falling asleep playing FFIV. But that's because I've been curling up in bed with it on the purpose of falling asleep. I've not fallen asleep with it on though. Once I know I'm nodding off I'll just shut the DS lid. I maybe shouldn't game before bed, but I can read a book. Both just things to do while my body get's the hang of this lying down flat business then draining final reserves.

As for sleeping I've been doing biphasic sleep recently(about 2 months to the day actually, I started not around new years along with my increased water consumption), it's not bad until you stop then you sleep more than normal in the night section :P

But when it's working it's awesome. You can go to bed about 2am-3am, wake up at 8-9am and be actually awake rather than groggy awake, go for a nap like 2pm-3pm, wake up recharged n work throughout. No energy drinks or shit like that, and you get to cram in more work hours. Not going to be good for when I actually go into work mind. I don't think they'll take into account a hour long sleep session :P

That's so weird. Why not pick up one of those "nature sounds" discs instead? It just seems weird to fall asleep during physical (and mental) activity.

reel Fishing doesn't demanding too much physical activity though, you just put a bait, throw it, wait for a fish to bait it, fight them, and reel them in, it became theurapeutic, the longer I play, the slower my reaction is, like a relaxing gentle slope into a good, deep sleep.

I have never once in my life fallen asleep without making a conscious decision to do so (well, except when I was an infant, perhaps), and frankly it astonishes me that other people are able to fall asleep accidentally. Under any circumstances.

I really only fall asleep on the bus. The ride is long, im sleep deprived, and something about the bus moving just relaxes me.

That being said, i never fall asleep without planning it. Im not the type that leaves the tv on or sits down on the couch and falls asleep sitting. I just dont do that.

I had been up for 38 hours, sat down with a bowl of cereal.... crashed in the middle of eating.

Longest I've went was about 42 hours....jesus never was sleep so satisfying

I once stayed up for 56 hours for no goddamned reason. I was just hanging out with a friend one night, and we ended up never going to bed, and then the next night the same goddamn thing happened. NO REASON!

I slept for about 18 hours after I finally went to bed.
