Yantelope
This is the only gamestop thread so I'm putting this here: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/24/gamestop-intentionally-removing-deus-ex-onlive-coupons-from-reta/ This is unbelievable on so many levels. I've never heard of a company deliberately removing content from a game and then pretending to sell it as new. Amazing.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Holy shit. That is big. They're rumored to be doing a similar service (wait, or was it flat out confirmed?) This is just dirty.
P4: Gritty Reboot
This is madness. What makes them think they'll get away with this kind of stunt?
Yantelope
It's such a stupid business move too. The right thing to do would have been to ship the product back to the publisher but instead they're going to open your copy, take the code out and smile and sell it to you pretending like nothing happened. I too rarely hope for more lawsuits but I hope there is some real monetary penalty for dishonest business like this. Even the insider email is such BS. All this stuff about great reviews and whatnot. They even BS their own employees! Edited August 24, 2011 by Yantelope
CorgiShinobi
GameStop is most certainly going to rely on the gray area of the legality in this, that is, according to Joystiq's description on the vague nature of coupons. "Well, it wasn't exactly advertised..." and so forth. And yeah, this is probably due to GameStop's upcoming streaming service coming 2012. http://gear.ign.com/articles/118/1189456p1.html

CorgiShinobi
Looks like they did what Yant suggested. Even so, this comes off a little asinine. "Quick, return all the games with a coupon inside!" Just because the option for OnLive is available doesn't mean everyone is going to flock to the service. Yantelope
At least it was a quick turnaround. I still don't like the "maybe we can get away with this" attitude but a recall (although silly) is their perrogative. Also good that they are honoring returns even though the game is steamlocked to your account. Free Deus Ex people!

And since they're being shipped back to Sqeenix it doesn't seem like they're going to be sold again.
Mister Jack
I really hope that they get penalized for this somehow, and I'm really pissed because they probably won't be.
Yantelope
Well gamestop's apology is a surprisingly good one. $50 gift card is a pretty good peace offering.
Vargras
Well gamestop's apology is a surprisingly good one. $50 gift card is a pretty good peace offering. Buy Deus Ex, take home and install it on Steam, take it back and get a $50 gift card. CHEAT THE SYSTEM.

Jezuz
Alright, may be wrong about this, as I never got a straight answer when I worked there. HOWEVER, I would like to share an interesting thing my boss told me the day I started there. He was telling us about highlighting the website to go to for the survey, and he then proceeded in a very serious tone to say that 'No one ever wins. Ever.' which to me is, beyond corrupt. Like I said, never got a straight answer on that, but I never heard of anyone winning it, and with a comment of a former district head... Who knows, man. Mal
Its not much of a secret that people don't win. Hell, didn't McD get caught messing with the Monopoly contests so only close friends of execs win back in the 90's? Won't be surprised if Gamestop did something similar. Edited for grammer. God I'm tired. Edited August 27, 2011 by MaliciousH
CorgiShinobi
Eh, I doubt many customers bother with those receipt surveys (in any store), or at least don't take it seriously if they do bother. EDIT: For my grammar, because I'm tired! Edited August 27, 2011 by Atomsk88
Chewblaha
Guys, guys. Direct all your GameStop questions to my GameStop thread. I doubt few people here know that company as well as I do/did. http://forum.pressxordie.com/index.php?showtopic=1322&view=findpost&p=60321
TheFlyingGerbil
people do use they feedback websites, and I am sure they would be quite rightly annoyed if they were lied to about a chance of winning as I am sure that is why most people do it. Kinda like the pepsi case with the jump jet.
Chewblaha
Okay. Gerbil. Anyone who thinks they're going to win a military-grade combat aircraft from turning in Pepsi caps needs to go to psychotherapy more than Holden Caulfield. TheFlyingGerbil
they shouldn't have shown something they had of intention of giving away.
Chewblaha
So if someone said "Collect enough pepsi caps and you'll win this island full of sex-starved supermodels" you'd think that's really what you could win?
