Jojo is already a pretty unconventional series to begin with, but then you ask people to READ on top of that and they just tune out completely. The PS3 game basically retreads the events of the manga and the PS4 game is an original story, but it uses time travel shenanigans to get the characters from all 8 parts interacting with each other. The Stardust Crusaders game for PS1 was pretty good for a fighting game, though I think it's not for sale because of rights transfers now. When I was watching Super Best Friends (formerly Two Best Friends) play All-Star Battle, I was pretty much given the basics of Part 6, and while I may know what happens in Part 7, it's so large that you've got to read through it to get the full experience. And I forgot that All-Star Battle includes the protag of Part 8, so yeah, all the way up to Part 8 for that one too. I forgot how slow Part 8 comes out on it's monthly schedule. I'm assuming fan translations are the only option at this point? Can't seem to find anything past Stardust Crusaders on Amazon, at least. Unfortunately, Jojo only recently started getting decent translations so some of the chapters are still kind of rough around the edges. The best translations are done by Jojo's Colored Adventure, who not only translate it well but, as you can guess by the name, they do a really professional quality coloring job of the original black and white panels that make the action scenes easier to follow. Unfortunately, they haven't completed work on part 5 so you will have to find multiple sources for that one. They have completed translating and coloring parts 6 and 7, though. toxicitizen Posted November 6, 2016 Report Share Posted November 6, 2016 So, I've watched about half the episodes of Diamond that are on Crunchyroll and I'm curious how you guys feel about it compared to previous parts. It's really good but I don't think it's anywhere near as great as Stardust Crusaders was. I'm not even sure why, to be honest. It's definitely the second best after Stardust and I like the structure of it more but I dunno, I'm not enjoying it anywhere near the same level. And man, Reveal hidden contents seeing Joseph that old and out of it is bumming the hell out of me lol. The last decade has seriously not been kind to him. Although, if he's 79 now that means he was 69 during Stardust, which I guess is the more surprising thing. I figured he wasn't older than his 50s considering how strong and healthy he still was. Also, I have another more general question about future parts. Reveal hidden contents So, Part 1, 2 and 3 all took place over a pretty long period of time with like 50-60 year time skips between them. Diamond takes place almost immediately after Stardust by comparison. Considering how close to current times the show is getting, are the time gaps between parts going to keep getting shorter or does the show eventually say fuck it and just jumps into the future? I'm curious because after initially watching the first season it seemed like the show would essentially go through a soft reboot with each new part. But in Stardust and now Diamond, characters start carrying over more directly and, even though there's a new JoJo and a new cast of main characters, it really feels like there's more of an overarching continuity to the entire show now. DiU is my personal favorite part in the series.I can't answer your second question completely without going into some absolutely colossal spoilers, but what I will say is that for the most part, the time gap between parts going forward is smaller than the gaps between parts 1-3. Now that I think about it, there were hints of it early on but then the show went in a completely different direction and I kinda forgot about it. The Persona 4 similarities are back in full force lol. Also, I just realized how good of an OP Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town actually was. It just changed to a new one and now I miss it enough that I'm actually listening to it on YouTube. It's not as hype as Stand Proud but it really gets you in that JoJo mood. Reveal hidden contents The way Shigechi was introduced as a completely unlikable character only to make me genuinely sad when he died was pretty damn good. Even Avdol's first death didn't have that much of an impact for me. I genuinely felt bad for that weird little frog kid despite not liking him at all up until that point. That was well played. If my assumption is correct and his death is the catalyst that brings all the introduced characters together to catch the murderer, then that's a pretty compelling direction for the story to go into. I thought it was a little weird how they kept introducing "enemy" Stand users without ever really taking them out of the picture completely but if that's how the rest of the story plays out then it makes perfect sense in retrospect. The guy found a way to cheat the lottery out of five million yen with the help of his stand. I like that, mostly because if I had a stand of my own, I can tell you that the first thing I'd be doing with it is trying to figure out a way to exploit it for financial gain. Like, he might as well have been in his 20s in Stardust, wouldn't have made a lick of difference. Reveal hidden contents You can also definitely see a little bit of Joseph in Josuke. Like, the way he goes into a blind rage whenever someone makes fun of his hair is about as ridiculous as anything Joseph did in Battle Tendency. Also, Reverb just hit Act 3 and I keep wondering what the fuck is up with that Stand. I can't tell if we're simply seeing a Stand's natural growth from birth to maturity for the first time or if it's just straight up fucking weird. For starters, in its official stats its developmental potential has an A rank, which is fitting given how much it changes. Stands transforming into multiple forms is a pretty rare thing, though. I'm sure you noticed that Echoes' design has a lot of similarities to Cell from Dragon Ball, so I'm pretty sure Araki gave Echoes multiple forms as a reference to Cell's multiple evolutions during his saga. I figured it was probably just a unique thing but since Koichi is the first character we see actually becoming a Stand user (IIRC, everyone else up until that point already had their Stand when we first met them), I thought that maybe there might be more to it than just that. He didn't have the mental prowess initially that's required to have a Stand, but because Koichi cheated death, he gained a Stand that developed alongside him. It reflects him growing and being more capable in challenging situations. You'll see this reflected in other Stands in the series, but like Jack said, it's rare. After binging on Stardust and most of Diamond, it's going to be rough having to wait an entire week for each of the remaining six episodes... I also already watched Dragon Ball Super 21 to 27 as soon as they came out last night, so I'm done with the Resurrection F arc. Gonna wait until the next batch before starting the next one, I think. Otherwise it'll be annoying having to wait just 3 episodes into it. So, that means I get to start something new! I'm thinking either Mob Psycho 100 or the new Berserk. Do you guys have any other recommendations? Preferably stuff that's on Crunchyroll. I have a bunch of stuff in my queue but most of it I can't even remember why it's there lol. I never really considered JoJo to be a particularly suspenseful show in general but it's been getting progressively crazier since the start of the "July 15th" arc. I mean, I've been rewatching Death Note this week and today's episode was almost as intense as that. Speaking of which, man Death Note is so fucking goooooood. Can't believe I never actually finished it. The manga originally started when I was in my biggest manga/anime phase, so I was reading it week to week pretty early on. But at some point I got sick of waiting for each chapter and just stopped following it. Then I did the exact same thing with the anime lol. That ending will have been a long time coming for me.
