Saturnine Tenshi
Been watching the IDOLM@STER anime, Yuru Yuri and Hidamari Sketch. Also have Denna Onna to Seishun Otoko, Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai and Nisemonogatari waiting. Dropped Mirai Nikki because the MC was too fucking shounen. Johnny
@MDex: I really didn't like the new FMA-B movie. The plot was recycled from various story arcs from the original anime, and all the new characters felt boring.
MasterDex
For every panty shot, take a drink. Upside down Mount Fuji! Colourful was a great show, some hilarious skits in it. @MDex: I really didn't like the new FMA-B movie. The plot was recycled from various story arcs from the original anime, and all the new characters felt boring. Fair point, I still feel it's a stronger movie than the first one though. It was better structured too. I think it's a good thing they didn't do anything entirely new as it has little chance of affecting canon then. I think it stands up fine so long as you treat it for what it is - a cash-in extra - like the Bleach movies....but better.
Mal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4cxco11NaI For whatever reason, this video made me feel old because I recall the time where I watch stuff like this quite a bit. Now... I was only 16 six years ago... "only"... GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD I am getting old. Edited March 8, 2012 by MaliciousH

Little Pirate
I wish Netflix had Dot Hack Sign. I haven't seen it in such a long time and I remember loving the OST and characters.
Mal
Okay, I am going to attempt to dwindle down my long lost anime backlog. First up... Zeta Gundam. I might mix it up with some Slayers as well to keep me from getting too bored. 2-3 episode every night or so should do and with that I should be able to conquer the Gundam and Slayers series in a few months! Edit: With that all said, I never noticed that there are so many grand thief Gundams all the time! Holy hell, the main must have jacked a Gundam every damn episode! WHY AREN'T THERE KEYS!? Saturnine Tenshi
IDOLM@STER anime was well beyond my expectations. Though being a game-to-anime transmigration, the bar was hardly insuperable. High touchie! Really would like to play the PS3 game, but the cost of importing that rascal is unacceptable.
GunFlame
I'm all Bleached out again... I finished watching the Bount arc (which was super dull), and now getting into the Arrancar arc. I've read all of the Manga up to the latest issue, but I've just become fed up with the Anime, the Bount arc just killed it for me... I'm interested in watching the Zanpakuto Rebellion, but that's about it. Right now, I dunno what to bother watching. I reckon my Anime phase is done for a couple of months, I guess it depends it something sparks my interest. I've got plenty of recommendations, but being burnt out on Bleach, and the Bakuman Manga has done me for now. Maybe I'll take a dive into some older stuff, a little Cyber City Oedo,Legend of the Four Kings, Patlabor (which is the best!!!) or Tenchi Muyo...maybe even Rayearth or X. It's been a while. I've been wanting to watch 12 Kingdoms for ages, but I can't find it anywhere... Edited March 9, 2012 by GunFlame
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Watched the entire run of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood with Dee and Johnny. What an incredible show! I immediately rushed to Amazon to find it on Blu-Ray, but the box set of the first 3 series is arriving late April, and there doesn't seem to be a box set that collects all 5. Oh well, I'll try and grab it sometime in the future.
SomTervo
Downloaded all of Neon Genesis for to watch with my flatmate, who hasn't watched an anime before, but is a connoisseur of TV shows. I'm really not a fan of anime. So much of it is the same painful tropes and cliche's and stereotypes rolling around in a melting pot of boke-tastic material. (I've been subjected to a lot of it, especially in my mid-late teens, so this isn't a random uninformed hatred). But there are maybe 3-4 shows that I love and want to watch all the time. I recall Neon Genesis being particularly strong, but I never watched all of it like I did with some other shows, so I downloaded that SHIT. The first couple of episodes are really strong. Flatmate surprisingly really enjoyed them. Although, like with so much anime, it's so hard to look past the painfully poor music and awful tonal shifts. "Oh yeah cool serious chat, okay now they'r unwinding, okay NOW THERE'S A PENGUIN GOING INTO THE BATHROOM LOOKING AT HIS PENIS". My flatmate had literally never seen anything so absurd in a TV show and laughed constantly for about 10 minutes. It's now a flat in-joke. Want to get some FMA going, too. What a show. Mal
So Gundam 0079 and Zeta stories are indeed more or less rehashed in Seed and Seed Destiny. With that said, original>redone. However, no matter how fucked up the storyline in Seed was and indeed it was fucked with the numerous recon to the story it had with Seed Destiny, and with the extreme amount of emo-ness... it still holds a place in my heart. I blame the music. When this song comes on when a character does something awesome... its just plain awesome. So much ass is kicked. With that said, I am now on episode 21 out of 50 for Zeta. I expect that I should be done with Zeta by this weekend.

While the rest of the characters--the ones we know--were awesome and just as I expected them to be, the new ones were rather uninteresting (for the most part) and I found myself struggling to care for them. Maybe it's because they were thrown into a movie and we didn't have as much time to get to know them like we did Ed and Al and Mustang, Hawkeye and Hughes...even the Homunculi. In any case, the plot was rather typical and blasé. Not saying it was bad, but I could've done without it. And for the record, I liked Conqueror of Shamballa. xD
Saturnine Tenshi
@kenshi: Maybe you're approaching the wrong genres? There are plenty of less-than-horrid/prosaic shows out there. The majority of certain genres tend to lean toward a demographic, though. Regardless, it's good to hear you're a champion of sorts of NGE. <: Just don't ruin it with the new movies!

Yeah, I generally stay away from anime movies. I know there are good ones (I'm a champion of Ghibli too (except Earthsea)), but in terms of TV-show tie-ins I've only heard generally bad things. I've seen some old classics like Wicked City and the like. I've seen quite a few series and only a few I've wanted to come back to; though some certainly didn't seem bad. Any recommendations? Ones I recall well are; NGE (obviously), Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist, Trigun, Death Note (reading the manga)... There are others but I can't remember. I remember some Bubblegum Crisis (or something) and Full Metal Panic, but they seemed to be driven by the melodramatic aspects of anime that I despise. Saturnine Tenshi
Those you listed have fairly widespread appeal, so it's hard to gauge what you're into. >_< I'll list a few, and you see if any toot your torrid vein-thing. If you're looking for a bit o' pell-mell or goofiness, I'd recommend Cromartie High, Nichijou or Azumanga Daioh. Maybe The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya or Excel Saga. More laid-back and/or forlorn shows with a more adult appeal: Mushishi (<-- definitely that), Memories (OVA series), 5 Centimetres Per Second, Solty Rei. And some sundries: Serial Experiments Lain, Stranger and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Bakemonogatari. Maybe even Higurashi no Naku Kori Ni. Generally, I keep to shows that cater to a different audience. So I'm sure there are users here who could give you a more robust list. I'm usually off watching more bishoujo affairs. Anyway, I hope my paltry list is somewhat fruitful.
Mal
Mushishi is for sure an anime to watch. Kino no Tabi is somewhat like Mushishi thus I recommend it as well. As always... you can try to tackle Legend of Galactic Heroes.
MasterDex
And then there's the likes of Berserk, Monster, Gundam, Otogi Zoshi, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Grave of the fireflies, etc. There's a bunch of stuff out there of all types. A good way to find anime that might interest you is to check out aniDB. It's a huge database of anime that uses weighted ratings which are generally reliable - For example, Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the top rated space opera there, which is in line with general opinion. SomTervo
I've watched most of those at some point, Dex, but not all of them. Some pretty good ones there. Ta for the more unusual tips Tenshi et al., Mushishi looks very very strong. I love it when a 'one plot arc per episode/issue' template works well. Just finished Planetary the other week, and that used the same thing but in a sci-fi context rather than a fantasy/ mythological one, like it looks like Mushishi uses (the main character even looks really similar). Will definitely give that a look.
MasterDex
So I just watched Gintama 252 and I was like WTF?! It's over once again! How long will I have to wait this time? Will it be back?! WTF?! Gintama has become like a religion for me. Life will be bleaker without it. P.S. If you haven't watched Gintama or you think it's a load of balls - WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! DON'T YOU HAVE A SOUL!

MasterDex
I just finished Zeta Gundam. WTF happened in the last two episodes!? I can't recall Zeta much sooooo.....I don't know. What did happen? Onto more recent anime, what's everyone watching this season? Personally, I've been enjoying: Uchuu Kyoudai - a story about two brothers who grow up wanting to be astronauts. While the younger brother makes it, the older brother finds himself stuck in a dead-end job until his brother reignites his passion for space and gets him into a training program for a Mars mission. It's a lovely story about brotherly love and rivalry. Definitely recommended. Zetman - A friend against friend shounen complete with angst, transformations and lots of fighting. Worth it if you like the type of anime. Jormungand - A story about a young arms dealer and the bodyguards she employs, the most recent being a child soldier. Reminiscent of Black Lagoon. If you liked that, you should like this. That's it, as far as I recall. The new Eureka Seven series has started but I have yet to check it out and there's a bunch more new shows that I haven't seen anything of yet. MasterDex
I can only describe it as this: I felt that the pacing was off thus it was rushed. Also I should start ZZ Gundam or 8th MS Team... Ah yeah! I do remember it being quite an abrupt end. As for which to start next, I'd definitely vote for 08th MS Team - fantastic series. It's a shame (or perhaps a blessing) it was as short as it was.
